Loriey got a reaction from Smanky in Started Soft Food Stage - don't feel after a meal
Hi all, today is my 1 year anniversary.
I am down 57 lbs, and all my issues have resolved. I feel completely healthy with absolutely no eating or "exiting issues" anymore.
I still weight train 3 times per week and run 5 kms 2 times per week. AMAZING that I can do this.
This is the best i have felt since I was teenager. Best decision I ever made!

Yes. the homestretch. I can't believe were I am. I haven't been this small since my early teens. Oh yes, because of the quick weight loss and my age, I definitely have loose skin. But I am working out and trying my hardest to fix this. I know it won't completely tighten up but I'm ok with that. I find it has been easy, mind you I also work to lose weight. I don't leave it up to the surgery. I work out 5 times per week, drink lots of Water and really watch my intake. If you use the surgery as a helpful tool, you'll be successful.

How are you making out? Are you feeling better?

Sorry, for the late reply. I am now 4.5 months after surgery and everything has fallen into place. Tons of energy, still losing weight. I'm 11 lbs from my goal weight. I have started back at the gym a couple of months ago, and now that we are on COVID lockdown, I am working out at home. I have so much energy that I can't help but exercise. Things are great! I hope things will as smooth for you as they did for me.

    Hi all,
I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 25 pounds. I find I have very low energy by mid morning and this lasts until around 4 pm. I am taking my Vitamins and Iron religiously, eating the right foods and making sure I have my required Protein. I think I may be losing too fast, considering I am a low BMI (33) when I started. I wanted to start back at the gym by week 6 but all I want to do right now is curl up in bed and sleep. Has anyone else gone through this?

mmy, I hope you found some helpful strategies that is working for you. I had never heard of SIBO until this past Friday. My surgery was in July 2017 but prior to that I was suffering from lactose intolerance, was diagnosed with intolerance to gluten, allergic to shell fish and had esophagitis from GERD . I stopped eating those foods gradually but still had issues and was on acid reflux meds. Every time I eliminated one thing something else gave me issues. After my surgery, I was doing ok for the most part until last year when the bloating started. This was followed by painful gas and irregular bowel movements. I got an Endoscopy and Colonoscopy which revealed that I had a couple of polyps in my large intestine but weirdly, one in my small intestine. Even though the Gastroenterologist said my Pancreas was ok and my enzymes were normal, I was prescribed Kreon because I didn't have enough enzymes to digest my food. So he said. I was also told to take probiotics and take in more Fiber. This was in October 2020.
Some of my symptoms improved as long as I was taking the Kreon with everything I put in my mouth. At my next follow up, I asked why was taking enzymes everyday if my levels are ok and my pancreas is fine but all my symptoms had not improved? I was basically told to not look a gifted horse in the mouth, my symptom are better so be grateful. I followed up with my GP and she was not having it. She got me a referral for a second opinion. The new GI doc asked me a lot of questions and was very informative. He told me that my long history with taking meds for GERD combined with the RYN may have made me candidate for SIBO. I'm waiting for appointments to get some tests and labs done. I often borrow books from my local library about inflammation and gut issues but I rarely crack them open because I already decided that the advice would not work for me. But after my visit with the new GI doc, I searched the index of each book. Bloated Belly Whisperer by Tamara Duker Freuman has a whole chapter on SIBO (chapter eight) that eye opening for me. I'm a little bit more encouraged that there is a possible treatment for my issues.
Through my journey so far, I've found that older doctors treat me poorly when they find out that I had RNY. It's almost like they are telling my that I deserve any issues I get. I don't want to self diagnose but I can't sit back and continue to be miserable. Now I pay attention to what I'm eating, I find it difficult at times to give up certain foods. It took me 10 years to give up dairy. I developed upper respiratory infections after a while, but I couldn't give up the brie and the ice cream until I had one last bout with Bronchitis. I don't miss foods that are harmful to me, I can walk by them now with no problem. But when everything I eat is a problem, even a glass of Water, I'm going to keep looking for a solution. Keep fighting mmy.

Hi Lori - so happy for you!!
yes, I am the same as you. I’m down to 154 and hoping to be 145 end of March and 130 for end of June. I’m also walking 13,000 to 20,000 steps a day and now doing weights at home. I can’t wait for gyms to reopen for variety. I also am careful of what I am eating and portion. eating very healthy. But will treat myself to something every now and then. But it’s small amounts. I still haven’t had pizza or bread. It has been effort on my part for sure. I’m the lowest I have been in 10 years! Lower than the band. I always wanted to be back to 130-135 but couldn’t get that last 20 off. So I think it’s going to happen with the MGB! Can’t believe it. And what a perfect time we did so. Once things open up I’ll be where I want to be. So very happy!

Fruits cause gas as well especially bananas and oranges I am 17 years out Post Surgery and have found eggs broccoli potatoes carrots Beans cheese onions bread tortillas Pasta and more cause gas and foul smelling toilet habits. I have gone through several different diet plans and you just need to test what works for you every ones bodies react differently to the foods .

I also had the MGB 2 months and 1 week ago! I find mornings difficult...but once I am up, I am raring to go!
I think the low carb thing does it also. There is such a thing of Keto flu....where you are exhausted. So body healing, new way of eating, exercise....we will be tired! But then it switches and you will have energy.

I am only 6 weeks out, but I have the same problem. I talked to my surgeon and he prescribed Cotazym ECS, Amylase & Protease & Lipase. This is very effective, but I also have to keep my intake at very low fat and sugar. Try this, it helped me.

This week I am 3 months since surgery and still have some days with low energy. I spoke with one of the nurse case managers this week, she called for a check in. I told her about it and she said it is exactly what everyone here said. The body is still healing and not a lot of food intake will take our bodies sometimes a while to adjust to. Some people take longer. I am fine with this as I am very pleased with the loss of weight.

You are still pretty recently post-op. You may feel better, but your body is still working to heal on less resources.
Be patient with yourself. Do what you can, don't do what you can't. It will get better.
    Good luck,

That's exactly what I was thinking.....that new foods/textures is a shock to the stomach. I'm sure it will pass as i move towards solids and my stomach becomes accustomed to the foods.

I don't know if it is dumping syndrome. But I felt the same way about a 1/2 hour after eating. Extremely tired. I would lie down for a 1/2 hour and it would go away.

I had my revision done on August 27. Absolutely no pain. The only problem I had was nausea afterward. I don’t handle narcotics well. I ended up dry heaving for the first day. But day 2 hit and it was all forgotten. I’m doing well, following the all the rules therefore swelling is going down and a few pounds down already. Starting to get energy. Looking forward to the next 3 weeks.

Everyone loses as different rates...stick to plan and we all pretty much end up at the same place in the end (barring any complications)
P.S. I lost 11 lbs in my liquid pre-op diet (which was for 2 weeks). I ended up losing more than 1/2 my total body weight.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with your decision. I had the revision from the Band to MGB in Dec of last year and couldn't be happier. I had the band for 12 years and never lost any weight. Now, since having the MGB I've lost 83 lbs in 7 months. I always hated how the band felt when I ate, now I just feel full. It's not painful or aggravating like that band was. Good Luck to you!
