    October Bypass

Hi everyone! I have bypass scheduled for Oct 8th. I started the preop diet 2 days early because I had a couple days eating my favorite (chicken wings [emoji39]). I didn't do any major damage, but I know I have imperfect eating habits so I'm trying to do the best I can. Plus my surgeons group threatens to cancel surgeries the day of if not enough weight is lost on the preop diet. I've lost 9.5lbs since Friday. I get 3 shakes a day and 2 small low calorie snacks like a cup of broth or a cheese stick. I'm struggling but I just keep telling myself I've come too far and have spent to much money to go back now! We can do this!
  2. That's awesome! May I ask which app this is? I like the way the information is laid out. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    30 second elevator interview

28 year old wife and mother of 2. ER nurse. Army vet. Total foodie and into traveling. I'm hoping to start my masters degree this winter!
  4. Just an update! I was approved for surgery back in the beginning of August, but they were all booked up for September so I will be getting my RNY October 8th! So excited! I waited a month to get my surgery date and I was starting to get discouraged and rethink the whole thing Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. Good luck! You got this! [emoji136]‍♀️ Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. I have my EGD tomorrow and have finally finished all 6 months worth of appointments and see the surgeon next Wednesday!

    Body Dysmorphia

I completely understand your perspective op! I’ve only been obese the past 5 years. It’s still shocking to see the way I look in the mirror and in pictures. It’s like my mind hadn’t made the connection until the past year of how truly large I was and that’s when I knew I needed to make a change.
  8. I’m a nurse (so lots of lifting, pulling, turning) and I’m taking 2-3 weeks off and going back with light duty for a few weeks to ensure my body has time to heal. My mom had surgery and is a nurse too and ended up getting a ventral hernia from doing too much too soon at work.
  9. Just an update! Still hanging in there getting this last bit of weight off to meet my 5% goal before my appt on the 24th of this month. Who knew these 5lbs could be so hard to lose? 😭 Congrats to everyone who has had their surgery/ gotten a date!
  10. I have no medical problems (yet) other than obesity, but I justified the cost by thinking about all the future medical costs I will have if I don’t get this weight off. Medications, ER visits, hospital stays, home health etc.. etc...
  11. Yeah I’m making the changes they recommended. The scale is moving in the right direction, just slowly. I lose a little bit, hit a stall, lose a little bit, hit a stall. I had two months in the middle of this process where I gained weight (from poor choices) and I am so frustrated at myself because I had to lose the weight I gained (I did) and am now chipping away at the surgeons goal.
  12. I have my month 6 appt on the 24th , and I’m desperately trying to lose the last few lbs to get approved by my surgeon. According to the office, insurance would approve me but the surgeon likes to see you lose a set amount before he approves you so he sees that you’re putting in a “conscious effort”. 😪 He’s known to not give surgery dates until you meet his goal.

If you could close one fast food chain

Taco Bell and Hardee’s. They’re my downfall 😭
  14. And don't be afraid to let her know of her bias against you
  15. I am so sorry this is happening to you. Hearing stuff like this is why I refuse to go to the VA for anything other than educational benefits. I would make an objective list with data to back you up on why you feel the surgery is the best option for you. Don't forget to include your support system and positive coping skills you have learned from working with your therapist. Before your meeting, make sure your head is clear so that you will be ready to argue your case in the best way possible! You can do this!
  16. I actually think about this! Before I gained the weight a few years ago, I always used to get hit on and complimented on my looks. Since the weight gain, nada. (Not that I’m fishing for compliments) It was a noticeable difference in how people treat me that I really had a hard time dealing with. I worry that I’ll be “jaded” when I do lose the weight. Like, would you have even noticed my existence if I still had the weight on me? If that makes sense.
  17. Thanks for the boost! I usually do a protein shake as breakfast. I was thinking of doing it for dinner as well on days I work my 12 hour shifts. I’ll lose the 14lbs. I’ve come too far to let my stubbornness get in the way. 🙂 As far as regret for the surgery... Sometimes I have doubts, but I keep asking myself what is the alternative? It’s not pretty, so I just keep keeping on.
  18. Just a quick update: I’ve gotten the green light from psych and the nutritionist, attended the first 5 months of appointments, 2 support groups meetings, have an EGD scheduled for August 9th and my 6th month appointment July 24. I still have to lose 13 more lbs before I see the surgeon otherwise I’m told he’ll tell me to try harder and come back later. 😒 I’ve checked so many boxes off, this just seems like a slap in the face and the hardest one yet. Still hoping to get my RNY before the first day of Fall.
  19. It does feel like forever ago! My only complaint is that I wish some of the requirements could have been done earlier. I know my program is trying to “weed” out those who aren’t committed but I feel like this is a lot to try to fit in in the last month or so. Have you met your surgeon yet? I don’t even get to meet the surgeon until I green the “green light” from nut, psych, the nurse and the PA after my 6th month appointment! I did go ahead and call to schedule the EGD. I’m glad I did! - the first appointment available is in August! 😪 I just keep telling myself baby steps! It’ll all be worth it.
  20. I haven’t bought any clothes yet but I do have a bag full of nearly new, much smaller clothes that I used to fit into that I can’t wait to fit into again!
  21. Hi everyone! I’m in month 5 of preop and hoping to get surgery by the end of summer. I still have a few requirements left like my psych appt in 2 weeks, abd ultrasound and labs next week and another surgery class next week. Plus I’m waiting for gastroenterology to call me to make an EGD appointment. (I’m thinking of calling them instead -the squeaky wheel gets the grease right?) I haven’t let myself get excited yet because of all the hoops to jump through but I feel like I’m finally able to see a tiny light at the end of the tunnel!
  22. Hi 👋🏽I’d like to join in on this topic. Not quite 300lb (297 at my highest) but at 5’0”, I have many of the same issues. 3x clothes were getting too tight, couldn’t fit in booths at restaurants, most theme park rides off limits and a BMI well over 50 😞. I’m in month 5 of preop and the pounds have not been coming off easily. I had quite a few food issues to address, but I feel like I’m finally drinking the koolaid (sugar free of course). The hardest thing was giving up soda. I crave ice cold root beer with crunchy small ice cubes. I haven’t set a weight goal. I just want to be able to shop in a nonplus size store and actually fit something without looking like a sausage in it.
  23. You can do this! You are stronger than you realize! Hubby will come around l, and if not, that’s an extra 175lb you will be shedding in addition.
  24. I’m hoping for an August or September surgery date [emoji51] I’ll be done with all of my preops in June and hopefully see the surgeon in July. I’m 27 and so ready to lose this weight. I don’t want to yoyo diet anymore. [emoji1439]‍♀️
