    all advice above is great.
many OP lose weight, then for whatever reason, start to re-gain, then feel bad, then eat more and gain more weight. Vicious cycle, most of us have been there.😒
i would suggest finding a support group. you probably will find other VETS that can encourage
you, or more probably you will meet newbies, OP just starting - and they are optimistic - and that feeling
is contagious - remind yourself how terrific you were/and still are - it's hard, but you can/will get back
on that wagon -you remember that great feeling from before
realizing/admitting to yourself you have a problem/issue is half the battle.
keep reading the board, you'll get more inspiration, and hear OP struggles too. You are not alone,
remind/tell yourself that you are NOT a failure
we are all here to help each other☺️
    good luck

I know how you feel - I struggle with urges as well. I do my best to make sure not to have unhealthy options available - as cliché as it is, 'out of sight, out of mind'. I also do my best to distract myself. It will get easier, just stay strong!

Hello Everyone, just wanted to touch base with my fellow May sleevers. I am curious about results thus far and calorie intake. I am receiving conflicting information from my doctor (who says I should consume 1000 calories a day) and my nutritionist (who says I should consume 700 calories a day).
I have been struggling and frustrated with my progress. I know where I need to tighten things up but am looking for support and encouragement.
I have lost 28 pounds since my surgery on May 2nd. 41 pounds down from my highest weight.

hopeful333 reacted to Creekimp13 in Why I eat baked potatoes, brown rice and whole grain bread
Yep, I eat them all. Love them. They're a daily part of my diet. Sometimes multiple times a day.
    OMG, they're carbs!
Yep, they are. But they're not refined, over-processed, or bad.
And you know what else they are?
Excellent sources of plant based Protein and Fiber.
A baked potato has 160 calories. By itself, it has 4g of protein. Throw some vegetarian chili on there and you're in the high teens. Awesome lunch!
Brown rice...half a cup has around 100 calories and 3g of protein. Add some bean or peas and you've got complete amino acids...tons of protein... and a crazy awesome amount of fiber.
Why is dietary fiber important? To grow good gut bugs. Your microbiota and the health of your gut (and metabolism) depend on happy little bacteria. The strains of gut bugs that live in the guts of skinny people....have a favorite food: dietary fiber. Feed your good bugs good things and they'll be good to you.
They like to eat fruit, veggies, Beans, whole wheat bread...
Whole wheat bread? I eat this A LOT:)
For instance.....A lite Thomas English wheat muffin has 5g of protein for 100 calories. This dietary powerhouse has 8g of dietary fiber! Smear that sucker with your favorite nut butter or fruit preserves, and you're in business.
One of my favorite go-to dinners these days...... is fresh homemade wheat bread with 16 veggie soup...and fruit for dessert.
I eat about four servings of fruit a day...and that's not even counting the watermelon I huddle over in the car while hissing "My Precious...." LOL:)
A banana is not "a candy bar" A banana is a wonderful healthy food. I eat lots of them. Hell, I have a Yonanas that makes them into ice cream. They're terrific.

Normal weight does not HAVE to mean giving up carbs. It means being carb smart, balancing, and making mindful choices.
More than one way to do this whole thing.
Weight loss success does not mean ONLY eating meat for the rest of your life with broccoli on the side. That's great once in a while, though!
Not trying to tell anyone they're doing it wrong.....just sayin'....there's more than one way to do it right:)

Extreme thinking, extreme dieting, extreme self denial....is not sustainable.
Work on a forever diet you can live with.
Be mindful, be accountable....but be kind to yourself.

Please don't beat yourself up. We have all spent years doing that to ourselves.
Lowering carbs, eating more Protein, and exercising as you said will help you reach your goals!
Your exercise routine doesn't have to be crazy. I hit a stall at my third week, then added exercise and the stall went away. I walk on the treadmill at an incline, initially for short times and now Im up to 45 minutes. Its only been a week and a half! I also do light weights (under 20 lbs per surgeon). I make the treadmill fun by watching a series on netflix that my spouse doesn't want to watch so that adds a guilty pleasure to it! Find something you like and get moving!
As for the carb cutting, I feel your pain! I'd kill for a ritz cracker, but cant do it. My tummy is still in the sensitive stage as the 1/4 scrambled egg I had for Breakfast this morning let me know! I highly recommend using the app: My Fitness Pal or any other free food tracking app. It really helps guide me every day! I can tell how much protein I've had, carbs, fats etc. I have made much better choices. just by looking at the numbers!
Don't give up on yourself! Soon Fall will be here and that's is a beautiful time to walk if you don't want to hit the gym. Good Luck! We've got your back!

I can attest to the stall. There is a thing called the 3 week stall. But it is different for everyone. I would not have believed this if it had not happened to me. I went 21/22 days eating about 600 - 800 calories a day and did not loose one single pound. Not one. So, don't worry too much about the speed that you loose. We are all different and as long as you are following the rules. It will happen.

Don't be discouraged. You've lost, be proud of that. You know the answers to what you have to do to get it done. Just try to focus more and be more disciplined. If you need support you know you have everyone here to help you out. Try finding replacements for the carbs you enjoy eating. I just made a small batch of cauliflower tots and they came out really good. Both my teenage sons tried them and I got thumbs up from both. I just told they were tots and they had no idea it was made from cauliflower.
Stay positive, you know you got this!!!

Don't feel bad! You know what you've got to do to make positive changes, now you just have to apply those changes. I do understand though. Anytime I have a lower than usual loss, I get a little disappointed, but then I just get happy that the scale is going down and not up like it used to!

Don't feel defeated. Take this as a lesson learned and move on towards a positive place. I'm not big on carbs anyway, but find recipes for dishes you like that are low in carbs. Instead of Fettuccine Alfredo made with Pasta, use Zoodles (zucchini noodles). Find a way to transform your old habits to create healthy new ones.
You got this... Chin up, work on getting your 90g of Proteins and plenty of Water and you'll be dropping that 20 in no time.

The pouch reset is bs, just keep following the plan. Track your food and liquids, weight loss is not linear, this is a long haul and get your head wrapped around that and you will be fine. I stalled for 3 months, but dropped 2 sizes in clothing. Lord it was torture, but then 12 pounds came off, the body fat distribution changed too - my stomach fat finally started going going down - yay!
This journey will try your patience, but learn what works for you - you are the only one that can figure that out.

I had surgery on the same day as you!! May 2nd.. I'm losing the same as you 1 to 2 lbs per week if lucky. I've had plenty of weeks where I didn't lose. In fact the whole last month I've lost maybe two pounds. I'm OK with that. I dont feel its slow at all. Our bodies are adjusting. I'm 56 yes old and I think age has a lot to do with it. I'm sure you've lost in inches!! Does your surgeons office have a support group you can go to or do you have insurance that covers seeing a therapist? I attend a support group once a month and its really helpful.
