    Protein shakes

I like the "Advant Edge" (by EAS) carb control shakes - especially the cold brewed coffee. 100 calories and only 3 carbs and 2.5 fat. Otherwise the only other shakes I like (that I've tried) are the Premier Protein (and yes, the cookies and cream is really tasty). Had a muscle milk the other day. Never again.

    Quick Lunch/Food Question Regarding Ounces

    Did you start feeling better?

    B O

I was told by the nutritionist, while I'm on my pre-op liquid diet, to expect some type of body odors due to being in ketosis. I don't know if it's the same kind of odor you are talking about though. Could have something to do with it, I suppose.

    July surgery

You don't happen to be going through 'Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas' are you? -Shane

    July surgery

You aren't in the Austin area by chance are you?
  6. I happened to talked to the "BRS" nurse today. I think Bariatric Resource Services with my insurance company. I did ask her, and she told me what I already knew, that Lap DS surgery is covered and there is a code for it. I have an appt. on Wed. with my surgeon. I'm going to do my best to persuade him that coverage won't be an issue (strange that I should have to do that). I'll see what my options are after that.
  7. Hello. I'm scheduled for RNY surgery on 7/30/18. I thought I wanted DS, and my surgeon does perform DS surgery, but he's worried about insurance coverage so won't do a DS unless I pay for the surgery upfront (and hope to get refunded later). I'm confused as to whether I should seek another practice to perform DS, or just go ahead with the RNY. I'm sure I can make RNY work for me, I'm about 40 BMI, and can lose weight pretty easily when I put my mind to it. It's just keeping it off that's the problem. -Shane

    July surgery

Hi all. I'm scheduled for RNY on July 30th! I am going to go ahead and start my pre-op liver-shrinking diet today. The six-month wait went by pretty fast, fortunately.
  12. Hi all, I've had my first appointment on Jan. 15th, and am going through the motions for the next 6 months (nutritional counseling, monthly meetings with the surgeon, etc). I've had the psych eval, had a sleep study, and am trying to show some weight loss before the next appointment with the nutritionist. Decided on the surgery since I'm getting older and getting more concerned about my health. Been dieting for the past 25 years, losing, gaining, never maintaining for more than a year or two at most. Hoping this all works out and I find a permanent solution to being healthy. Tentatively slated for surgery in late July.
  13. So far I've opted for the Gastric Bypass (I may ultimately decide on the duodenal switch) because it not only makes your stomach smaller, it also, unlike the sleeve, bypasses some intestine and reduces the nutrients/calories you absorb, increasing the weight loss.

    CPAP Nightmare?!?!

What's weird is I've never had any of these problems. In fact I had no reason to believe I had sleep apnea. I assumed my doctor ordered the study to find any co-morbities to help with insurance approval (which isn't required with my coverage). Wait, the machine sends them data over the internet? Damn. Foiled again. That sucks.

    Discouraged

I had my first appointment with my surgeon, signed up for the nutritional counseling (in office) and set all my appointments for the next 6 months, then called the Insurance company's bariatric services (Optima I guess). I did this at the direction of the surgeon's office. Almost forgot - prior to all this, I called the surgeon's office and they took down my insurance information and determined my coverage, for me, before my first appointment.

    Rny tomorrow morning

I'm a little dubious. 3 pounds a day? Wouldn't that be like 10,000 calories burned per day? How is that possible?
