deltagirl93 reacted to kplumlee1205 in One year Post op as of today!
As of today I am down 115 lbs since my highest weight ( 255 lbs) and 95 lbs. since my day of surgery (235 lbs) at 5'7'' that has be losing 38% of my body! more than 1/3 of my has disappeared! I went from a size 16/18 to a 4/6 ( the tiniest I have every been as an adult). I was told when I did this that it was unlikely to work as well since I had been on insuling and medication for my diabetes for soo long, but even my doctor has been blown away by my results. I still don't recognize myself in the mirror sometimes, but I am adjusting to thin girl problems; such as, being cold all the time, needing extra padding to define my breast which have gone through a deflation, needing to shop in the talls because normal people aren't my size and height apparently and shirts/ pants are too short, oh and being boney means pain when on hard surfaces.
I have been insulin free since day five after surgery and my A1C at 6 months out was 6.0 down from a 8.9 at two weeks prior to surgery. I am taking absolutely nothing for my blood sugars and they are between 85-120! This surgery has given me back my life. I went in with being told I'd be losing 20-30 years due to my insulin needs, and came out with such better prospects.
With it has come a lot of other new things. I got a new boyfriend the january prior to surgery and 4 days ago he proposed in disneyland! We've been slowing integrating our lives ( we both have children with prior partners) and he has made such amazing strides with my daughter and with understanding my weightloss journey. I am excited to try on dresses! I was engaged once before, and I refused to try on anything besides A-lines and everything was awful( I was a size 20-22 in a wedding dress then). Tomorrow will be my first trial, I'll get sized, and try silhouettes, its so exciting now that I am not worried about them having my size or the whole world seeing my big butt and flub because dresses only come in tiny sizes. Its like the last year has been building my confidence specifically for this moment, where I am look at myself and see what everyone else does. The picture with the red shirt is from our first date (248 lbs) and the one with Minnie mouse is from this Monday minnie is showcasing the ring.

How is it possible to think your stalled at just two weeks? You’ve only just began. I was told not to be concerned with weight or even the scale until 3 months & yes I’ve felt like I’m losing at a snails pace but I can’t argue the fact that NONE of my clothes fit anymore at 10 weeks. Hang in there & be patient.

From August 2017 to January 2018 I gained 22 pounds. I was meeting with my hematologist, when he recommended that I seek weight loss surgery. For you see, like so many here on the forums, I have edema of the lower legs. I have been meeting with my Hematologist, because he has me on a dose of Xeralto to keep my blood thin. The thinning of the blood over the course of a year will help to inhibit the formation of new clots... but that darned edema of the legs has the doctor concerned for me. He said I need to lose the weight, so I can reduce the edema, so he can take me off the Xeralto. This is when he recommended the weight loss surgery.
Admittedly, I had been researching the surgery option, probably going back to 2012. But during this time, I was doing the research and making the inquiries, and I just could not get it in my head... I scared myself away. It is different now, this time a doctor recommended it to me as the best option for the situation at hand.
Another week or two goes by, and I decide that I am going to lose the weight on my own. First stop was a visit to my family doctor for a wellness visit, I was on top of the world. At this visit, I topped the scales at my highest weight of all time, 325 lbs! The world deflates below me, and in an instant I decided that I am going to seek surgery. I had concluded in an instant, there is no other way for me.

I also have a problem at night. I get more hungry between 6-8pm. We don't usually eat dinner until 7pmish. So I can control it with dinner. But if we eat an early dinner, I find myself chopping at the bit. I have gained a lot of self control, minus my glass of FairLife Milk and Sugar Free Chocolate Syrup. Every night at 8pm I have exactly a cup. It settles my cravings.

I have lost 41 lbs since being sleeved 10/13/17. I feel like the loss rate has been sooooo slow and had to overcome a few stalls. I have 25 lbs still to lose to hit my ultimate goal weight. But I have 7 months to lose that weight to make my goal.

I did a face transformation comparison the other day for myself. Needed to see the change to remind myself that even though I feel like the loss is slow, there is still loss.

I agree with previous posters. Do this for you! Not sure if he’s one of the types that gets off on making you feel bad, but if it were me, I’d snap back with “...and you can kiss my ENTIRE baby fat ASS, MOTHER F—R!”

I know it’s not the most wholesome language. However, sometimes you have to JOLT these SOBs out of their comfort zones of saying crap like that.

I wish you the best. Focus on you and your daughter for now, and seek others for your emotional support. It’s not coming from him. He truly may not know how to give it. I don’t know how he was raised or what, but that can have a lot to do with it.

    Good luck!

You’re so young. With a BMI so low, I don’t think it’s worth the scars that this surgery leaves you with to lose so few pounds. You’re still at bikini wearing age. [emoji4]

You also mentioned in your note that the weight loss is permanent with the sleeve. That is not true. If you do not eat right after the sleeve, you can regain. There are plenty of stories on this board especially those that have been sleeved for nearly a year where cravings have returned and there has been regain. The procedure basically gives you a few months to get you in the habit of making good food choices.

Those that are successful with any of the WLS surgery procedures long term have also developed good control over food. In the end, it’s still a mind game that has to be mastered with food.

My advise is use diff. avenues (some in person as well as online etc) and connect with someone who genuinely wants to know you and go from there. That will likely widen the pool (of potential matches) since looking particurlary for guys that know exactly what you more or less went through narrows it quite a bit. Also many guys want to meet women so try to minimize it somewhat instead of overthinking it. Not saying you are rather making a suggestion. Last but not least it is ok to ask the guy you may be interested in and some guys actually like that because they dont risk getting rejected etc.

I was so tired of sweet. shakes sweet, popsicles sweet, etc. so tried grits, and tolerated well. Hope I’m not screwing up anything, but what a relief. Since the surgery, broth became a top 5 aversion! Also using a straw without issue. Eleven pounds down.

I’m only six days out, but I don’t have any feeling of it being cut per se. However, when I consumed liquids in the first couple of days, I definitely knew there was a wall as there was a mild discomfort as the liquids were going down. I still have that feeling, but can drink much more. Not sure when it will go away.

I see a lot of suggestions about changing the relationship to food, not eating out of comfort, getting control of sugar, etc.
But I NEVER had these sorts of issues.

deltagirl93 reacted to Livetothrive in Frustrated with Process - suggestions please!
    I am in a pickle:
I will no longer be considered a candidate for the surgery if I fall below 35 at any time during the process - I currently have a 36.6 BMI.
However, the program & my insurance requires 3 dietician appointments over a course of 3 months. I have two more visits to go.
The dietician is very strict and gave me a very specific diet. If I follow it - I know I will lose too much weight to be able to have the surgery per their guidelines
I have been battling obesity since I was a child and have not had success in keeping weight off. All the women in my family are very overweight and I just don't want to be like this anymore! I am feeling frustrated and caught in a corner.
I already talked to the program and they just reiterated that if my BMI falls too low - I would no longer be a candidate. And I can not afford to pay for this on my own.
    Any suggestions? Thoughts?
    (sorry for the long post)

Just had my lap band removed on 2/14/18. Originally, placed on 6/9/2010. I had lost weight and within the last 18 months started have complications. Doc found that 90% of my band had eroded and was on the inside of my stomach. The surgery and recovery have been absolutely horrible. I haven’t had solid food in over a month and liquids for the last almost 2 weeks. I would not recommend the lap band at this point. My WLS does not do them anymore. Too many complications with them.

Hello, I had the sleeve surgery on 2/7 and I've lost 37 pounds starting from the pre-op two week diet date. So I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op and it has been so long since I have had an actual meal that I'm wondering if I ever will again and if so, when that would be. I am so grateful for the tool that I have but will I ever be able to, let's say, eat a regular serving of lasagna or a slice of pizza? I know these aren't things we are supposed to eat and got some of us here in the first place but I don't see why maybe once a week we couldn't have something like that. I feel as though I'm never going to be able to eat in a restaurant again. The only "real" food I've had is smooth egg salad with very little low fat mayo. I could only eat maybe 1.5-2 Tbsp. total and I was completely full. I know the whole point of the surgery is to get full faster and with less food but I didn't think the portion size would be that small. I know I'm only 3 1/2 weeks out but is this how it's going to be or will it change and when? Thank you...

Honestly it's hit home over this past year as to what it must be like being a recovering alcoholic. I've heard that many people don't look at ever beating it completely. It's a constant battle where you have good days/weeks/months/years and others are a struggle. I effing loved to smoke and I never thought I'd be able to quit smoking. Was a really tough first year but got through it. Going on something like 7 years now since I quit and there are times where I'd love to have a smoke. I don't dwell on it for long an it passes, but every now and then those urges come up. food is going to be a tougher battle for me.

Well, I can’t get insurance coverage for surgery. My BMI is 35 and I have no comorbidities. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful to be healthy, but I don’t have the cash to pay out of pocket. I’ve steadily gained weight over the last few years. The scale keeps climbing no matter what I do.
I cant tell you how frustrated I am....
