  1. Saw an orthopedic doc for my bad knee. Said I am a candidate for knee replacement surgery. Back story - tore the meniscus in 2013 and had to have surgery. It has been bone on bone since then). He wants to prolong the life of my current worn down knee and postpone surgery as long as possible as I am only 48 years old. I ended up with a cortisone shot. (Already did the rooster comb shots) This is my last change for pain reduction so I can keep moving, enjoying exercising and life again. He told me it will take a bit before it kicks in, and I am praying that I get some relief!

The cortisone shots are dang painful! I was told to try to Coolief for pain. Never had it though. My right knee was replaced three years ago. I must say that was the most difficult surgery I've ever had to recover from and I'm only a few years older than you.

  2. That is exactly what my surgeon said - defeats the purpose of the sleeve. So I do 3 meals a day and a protein snack in the afternoon as I am working out 60-90 min a day right now. I need the extra boost so I don't feel sick.

    Weight Loss Ticker

If you are only updating your weight, you can do it at the bottom right side of the forum pages in the together we have lost box. Just pop in the new weight and your ticker is automatically updated. Now if you need to make additional changes then you have to choose the ticker from the drop down associated with your userid in the top right. Choose ticker and then Edit.
  4. Just sharing something my doctor told me, stop eating after 30 minutes, even if you haven't finished what you think you should be eating. I am not sure if others have received this same guidance. I think I would be sick too if I ate for 2 hours straight!
  5. Your mind and body has surely taken a lot of hits over the years. You sound like you have a great attitude and a don't give up spirit. That will get you through all of this back to the losers' bench soon. Hang in there and keep us posted of your journey.

    Did water slides yesterday!

This is a wonderful thing to celebrate. What an inspiration for me. Congrats.

    Today is the big day!!!

Congrats! Have a safe surgery and a speedy recovery.
  8. This is something to think about for sure. As I am losing I am seeing wrinkles on my face that I NEVER had before. I used to joke about not showing my age because I kept stretching my skin. Well that has finally caught up with me as I lose weight and my forehead has these new lines I need to adjust to seeing. The rest of me isn't thin enough yet to compare to my 20s but I can see that our focus can change for sure. I am not the woman I was before, I am the improved version, wrinkles, bumps and all.

    Heading into surgery

You've got this! See you on the losers' bench.
  10. Speaking of trading in clothes, I am in Chicagoland (NW burbs) and I have a couple of bags of clothes that are 3X, 26/28 and 22/24 that I would love to pass along to someone that could use it. I have work clothes, dresses and casual clothes to share. If you are interested, please let me know!

    4th day post op

Do you hold a pillow to your stomach or wrap your arms around it when you cough? If not, I recommend it as it will help with the pain and also to not pop stitches.

    Non Scale Victories

Today I worked out with a personal trainer for 30 min. I was able to complete all the exercises and I could actually bring my knee to my chest to stretch. I was also able to wear my cute new workout leggings that have support so my jiggles were less noticeable. Those new leggings are 4 sizes smaller than what I was wearing. Yeah!
  14. I just completed my first 30 minute work out with a trainer. We did whole body weights and the trainer pushed me in a good way. I am heading back to the fitness center later to get my cardio on as I had a conference call to run to, but I feel so accomplished. I was able to do all the exercises, albeit some were really tough. I could actually pull my knee to my chest! Can we talk high and low planks? WOW! Takes a lot of core strength which I definitely need to improve upon. So I signed up with this trainer to meet 2x/week to help keep me accountable. Here is the other thing...I was worried about breaking wind while I was doing all this exercising but thankfully it didn't happen. I am so gassy these days and I feel like I can't control it. I wonder if I am alone with this issue...

You are not alone with the gas! I worry about that sometimes too. It used to be worse, but it has gotten better in the last few weeks. I am extremely gassy now. I do use a straw frequently, so I wonder if that is the culprit.

And congrats on the trainer! That is something I really want to try. I just cringe at the cost factor.

I am embarrassingly gassy. You are not alone. But the good thing is that the wind that comes from the 'nether regions' does not smell! At least :)

    I'm under 300!

Way to go! That is an accomplishment to be proud of. Keep up the good work.

Swallowing food hurts-3 weeks post op

Thanks for the added info. I hope you can figure out why you’re having pain.
  17. Thank you. Waiting for things was never my strong suit. LOL

Swallowing food hurts-3 weeks post op

Drinking while eating flushes the food through without digesting it, that will cause malabsorption. I think it might be wise to call your doctor. I hope you feel better soon.

    Ducolax Question

I found the right mix for me - 2 Colace in the morning and 500mg Magnesium. Repeat at bedtime. Of course water really helps as well.
  20. My NUT is wonderful and I still see her post-op. I choose to do that so I have accountability. She calls it like it is but she is able to deliver that message in a way that I can accept. She also answers ALL my questions ad I have a lot!
  21. I lost 9% body weight prior to my sleeve and I think I fall into the "typical" category. The first 4 days of the pre-op liquid diet was truly difficult for me. I think I am doing pretty well now, but I wish it was happening faster.

    Today’s fun :)

OMG! As soon as I made it under 250lbs the first thing I said is that I could finally go horseback riding again! This is awesome. Enjoy!

Is it too easy to drink my water?

I didn't do a good job and ended up in the ER a week later for fluids. It was between 2 - 3 weeks before I could drink enough. Someone here suggested I use sugar free Hawaiian punch added to water and that did the trick for me. I could tolerate the smell and taste. I am 14 weeks post sleeve now and I can do water very easily now. It was just a slow transition. BTW - I was a horrible water drinker prior to surgery so I wasn't shocked at my first couple of weeks. Same thing happened when I went through chemo. I would have to get fluids for 3 days after each chemo treatment.

    Sports Bras

I don't know what size group you need, but I purchased a couple at Lane Bryant this week. They have multiple levels of bras from high to low intensity. I went from a 48DDD down to a 44DD (high intestity) and the bras do what they are supposed to do now that I am working out regularly! They also have them with and without underwires. I was told there is an undergarment sale happening there shortly, but I needed a couple "now".

Is it too easy to drink my water?

I was one of those that couldn't do water or other beverages after surgery. The taste/smell of anything was such a turn off it was making me physically sick. I think you are okay if you are sip sip sipping! Remember water passes straight through. You are doing great!
