I had my surgery 6/5 and I feel good so far! My highest recorded weight was 256.12 lbs. The day of surgery after following the 10-day liquid diet I was down 13.8lbs. I was diagnosed with NALDS last fall. Hopefully The RNY will help me with my other commobidities. Please share your journey on this thread with words of encouragement and support.

Mine was 4 June. My heaviest is what I was on day of surgery. Over the past 18 months I gained 20kgs (44 pounds).
Im feeling great so far but am staying off the scales until the 30 June. I’m concentrating on Water & Protein intake for the first month. I know I’ll drop weight as I’m not eating a lot.
I’m meeting with my nutritionist next week to talk about calorie & protein goals for my soft/mushy food stage.
im looking forward to seeing everyone meet their goals

I have surgery Monday and I’m the Grinch that Wanted to Eat Everything. I absolutely don’t want another Protein Shake and Monday can’t get here fast enough. Holy crow this is hard when we do still have the ability to eat more than we should. Ugh!
    Hang in there everyone!

Hi all, joining the party. When I was 21 I found myself at 305 and it freaked me out, and I went on a severe diet. I dropped 112 pounds in a year, but after I met my husband and quit smoking I was back up to 305. And then marriage added another 72! My highest was 377 in 2011. From 2011-2017 I was able to get down to 315, but I kept bouncing back and forth from 335 to 315. When I decided to start the sleeve journey I was 333. On my surgery day, 4/27/18, I was 303, and nearly 4 weeks post op I am 278.
I question my choice constantly. I am discouraged by the 3 week stall, I miss food, I hate the nausea and the heartburn and all the pills. I am super tired. I know a lot of people regret their sleeve the first month. I just hope to get out of this funk soon.
    Here is my progress.

I exercise normally during my liquid diet phase. I did have a small carb boost ( Hersey kiss ) (spoonful of Peanut Butter) thirty minutes or so before I lifted....I didn't want to let it go since I knew I'd be down for a few weeks.... I'm two weeks post op.... And miss the weights dearly....

I was on the 14 days of Optifast as well. I just walked. I work a fast paced job as well, so I was running around too. You do NOT get extra to compensate. And don’t worry about exercise after. You’ll be up and walking within a couple hours of surgery (I walked the halls for the whole 24 hours I was in the hospital). Then after surgery I walked 30 minutes a day for the first 3 days, 30 minutes a day twice a day for the next 4 days and I now walk 30 minutes a day 3 times a day, plus whatever housework or whatever else I’m doing. At 14 days out I’ve lost 23 lbs. I’ve had one follow up appt that was 5 days post surgery, but my surgeon doesn’t even think about clearing you for over 10 pound of lifting for at least 3 weeks.

Oh! And make sure you’re at least walking 30-60 minutes a day. You won’t lose if you’re not active.

I sure am! I did 13 days of it before my surgery on 5/10. I got to have 3 shakes and then 2 other Optifast items per day. That’s IT. No broth, popsicles nuthin. Just good old h2o. In 13 days I lost 10 lbs. The first 3-4 days were awful. After that, it was ok. Don’t weigh yourself to begin with. I was pushing 90+oz of Water a day because the better hydrated you are before surgery the easier it is to not get dehydrated after. Personally, my calories never exceeded 800/day. Sometimes less because I wouldn’t have the appetite to eat another Soup or bar. It will work. I promise. It’s just a real pain in the patoot in the beginning.

hello, started in July of last year with the process to rny. In the middle of the 6 month program I went on vacation and when I returned weighed in at my highest , 378! Day of surgery I weighed 363 and am so close to the 200’s. I remember my surgeon(who no longer performs surgery bc of all of its complications, he told me after my surgery) told me the closer to a BMI of 60 the less likely of long term success. At my highest my BMI was 61. I’ve only been in the 300 for the past 2 years or so and prior was mid 200s. My BMI is now exactly 50 and I love watching it go down. I will succeed and am bettering myself and my body everyday. Since surgery I’ve lost a little over 50 pounds and can tell a huge difference but do not get many comments from other. I know once I’m down another 20 it will be more obvious bc my clothes are now pretty big and loose.

I'm scheduled for May 24th and am deep into the two-week preop diet. To be honest, I found it harder at the beginning and then I think my body figured we were starving so quit sending hunger signals!! I'm feeling a bit nervous about the recovery now...odd because I haven't been nervous through any of this..but hoping it goes smoothly!!

Good luck to everyone having surgery this week! I guess hotdogs for Memorial Day is probably out?

    *Update*
I went to the ER last night due to spotting, they checked me and baby out, everything is good. Heard heart beat and saw the little fetus, I am 6 weeks and 2 days and they said that my HCG levels were slowly rising which signals a slow growth but it could very well just be due to surgery as well so for now we are taking it day by day, I feel good however and we will be keeping s close eye on the pregnancy. I will update further as it goes along. Appreciate everyone's support, prayers & kind words.

The first two days are the absolute hardest, once you get past those, you'll probably be fine. Drink a ton of Water, it helps. Ice water worked best for me.

I had VSG, and I had a two week liquid diet. I was miserable, and depressed, but you have to keep going. You have to find something to keep you focused. You got this.

Hi Everyone! I know I came to these forums to help prepare me for the surgery, so this post is about helping you be as prepared as possible and know the nitty gritty.
I was sleeved Wednesday 1/24 in Chicago. Your mileage may vary.
The night before, I was NPO after 9PM and was the first surgery of the day, so I had to be at the hospital at 5:15 am. Have a backup ride ready because you might not know this until the day before, and my husband had to stay home with our kids. Pro Tip: You can reserve a cab or Lyft ride in advance, so I had a lyft scheduled at 4:30 AM.
They do weigh you at the hospital when you arrive. Pre-Op was a breeze. I have a high BMI so I had a shot of a drug to prevent blood clots, if you don't like shots, ask for it in the thigh. I had mine in my right shoulder both days and it was fine, nothing more than a flu shot feeling.
Post op your mouth will be DRY. DRY DRY DRY DRY DRY. Bring lip balm to keep your lips moist and you will, will, WILL get through it. If it's really bad, make sure you are not getting dehydrated. Late on the night of my surgery, my heart rate and blood pressure went way up, so they gave me a "BOLUS" for dehydration, which is a lot of IV fluids really fast, it did the trick and by morning I was fine.
WALK! Get up as soon as you feel able to. I walked and walked, and peed and peed. They will measure your urine so don't flush it, there will be a measuring thing in the toilet, don't put paper in it because you want credit for every ML of urine you produce! And did I mention walk? It's so easy. I was shocked that I was the only person walking around the floor. It really helps with that gas pain.
The morning after surgery I did a "water trial" where a member of the doc's team brought in two thimbles of Water. I had two hours to finish them and it took really about an hour. Go slowly. After that, I was not brought a tray of anything, just a FULL styrofoam cup of probably 20 oz of water and was told "this is what is between here and home." It took me about 3 hours to drink it, and then I was finally discharged around 3PM. Walking around in CVS on the way home is when the farting began. It hasn't stopped but I'll tell you I have zero gas pains!
Get the liquid Tylenol. You will want it when you are home, even if just one incision hurts (I have five "stab wounds" and only one is really bothersome at all - and the liquid tylenol is enough.) Now I am home and am slowly sipping Premier Protien Clear (yum) and water (yum) all day. TIP: Don't buy the orange Protein water sold at Target, order the Premier Protein clear online. They are vastly different.
TL:DR? You will fart a lot. That's good. You will burp a lot. That's fine. WALK A LOT. Stand up a lot. You'll do great.
    Ask me anything!
