Thank you for adding your helpful comments and congratulations on your surgery and weight loss success!

The nutritionist told him that he needs to introduce snacking and take in more calories. It seems so counter intuitive to add more calories and this seems like such a different balance and science for everyone.

Wishing you continued health and success!

I am happy if my comments helped your family member!

Hello all - Wondering this for a family member who is one month post sleeve surgery. They are concerned they have not lost weight in the past 2 weeks. He is on solid foods and trying to navigate getting in the Protein requirements and is averaging about 700-800 calories daily. The nutritionist told them to increase calories to 1400 a day by snacking throughout the day. Has anyone had this experience? The advice to increase calories is confusing? Thank you!.

Hi - I had the same problem around the same time. My doctor had me on 1000 to 1200 per day and I was not losing weight. I did some research and found that other doctors and nutritionists said that can happen if you are not eating enough calories for your activity level so I increased my calories to 1400 per day! I not only felt better i started dropping weight. I have been losing 3 pounds per week since I increased my calories. I am a very active person. I also make sure I have some kind of snack (focusing on protein) every 3 hours and I drink 50-64 oz ( I know that is light) of Water per day. My surgery was on may 3rd, 2018 and I am down 43 lbs since April 17th when I started my liquid diet. That averages 3.9lbs per week.

i know it is strange to be able to eat so many calories and still lose weight. It's nice not being hungry! Best of luck to your family member.

    Hi All!

I was sleeved today, about 6 hours ago. I’m feeling pretty great, I don’t feel like an elephant is sitting on me, or a ton of gas pain. I just sipped Water for the first time and it didn’t hurt at all!

Yay for you! So happy for you! I am so worried about what i will feel like waking up; my surgery is today. I leave for the hosptial in an hour.

So happy you are feeling well! Your post eased my concerns!

All the best to you and your recovery!

My surgery is May 3rd and I’m officially nervous and having a lot of anxiety. I have been having trouble sleeping and having weird dreams. I honestly can’t wait for this to be over because my nerves are getting the best of me. . I’m I the only one?

I'm on May 3rd too and just like you anxious. All the best to you!

So they are doing my EDG May 11 and surgery the 25th or the 30th. This hurry up and weight so the weight will hurry up and go is making me nuts! I have been cutting out sugar and cutting way back on caffeine and I have been a bear. My son said he is about ready to hand me a twinkie and a diet coke so I will be nice! Trying hard to keep the grumpy to myself.

I understand! I am on day 2 of my liquid diet and starting to get a little irritable. Primarily because I would love to eat the Unjury broth for 2 meals but it has too much sodium so I am stuck with the shakes! Plus the instructions say to have 5 shakes a day but each shake has 25g of Protein so if I have 5 I go over the 100 g limit for protein. The very low calorie intake is making me very tired. Wish I could just sleep. Hope to adjust to this soon! I have 12 days to go! :)

Good luck with your cutting back!

Congratulations! My surgery is 5/23. It's exciting and nerve wracking all in 1 but I'm getting more excited now. Yay May surgery buddy :-)

I am scheduled for May 3rd! My liquid diet starts tomorrow! Nice to know others are going through this at the same time! We can all support each other!

I'm a little over 13 months post op, down 117 pounds and within 10 of my goal. I eat pretty normally just much smaller portions. I can eat whatever I want but I do avoid foods high in simple carbs. I still will have a treat when I want one, though usually just a bite or two. The only thing I can no longer stomach is eggs.

Thank you! This is very encouraging! Congratulations on your weight loss - I hope I am as successful!

I will be 6 months post op on the 14th of Feb. I pretty much follow the rule of Protein first but sometimes I slip up. Like today, for example, I came home from work starving and there was a box of veggie pizza on the kitchen table. I grabbed a slice and started eating. I finished the whole slice! I was shocked because previously I couldn't even get down half a slice. It was a bit too much for my sleeve though and I know I pushed it. Still paying the price for it it 1 hour later :)... that should give you an idea of what you CAN eat, not necessarily what you SHOULD. I should mention it wasn't a thick crust pizza... I know I have no excuse lol I was hungry and it was there... old habits die hard :/

Thank you! Your comment is very helpful. I was worried about slipping up! I totally get being overdue for dinner and getting so hungry! Thank you again!

Something else to think about...even though my cravings are soooooooooo much lower than before, once in a while I slip up and have a handful of goldfish, a few potato chips, etc. The difference is, I used to eat the entire bag in one sitting!!!!!!!! You will not be perfect and really, perfect is not realistic.....

    Good to know!!! Thanks!!!

HI there! I am 3 1/2 moths post op and here is a look at my daily intake on average:

breakfast: cup of coffee with Protein Shake added for flavor (coffee keeps me regular) and then a boiled egg/egg cup/etc.

snack: one serving of nuts or beef Jerky

lunch: about 2-4 oz. chicken/pot roast/left overs Protein, small salad or veggie...about 4-5 oz total...some days more, some days less

snack: half "power crunch bar"or another boiled egg or string cheese

    Dinner: same as lunch

sometimes another snack: 1 serving of skinny pop or something listed above...

I prefer to eat my calories instead of drinking them but if I am below 60-70 grams of Protein, I sneak in a shake. The stalls happen...very often for me! The other day I was 229 then this morning, 231...I did NOTHING different other than I am getting sick so that might be the issue. You will find your way...I promise!

  11. I really appreciate all the information! It makes me calmer about my decision. It's also nice to hear that you can have a little beer. Although I dont drink beer, I do like wine or other spirits occasionally. I went to a seminar the the doctor at that seminar said after the surgery you could never have wine again. I just enjoy a little wine every now and then and I dont think I would miss it if I were allowed to have 1/4 or 1/2 glass instead of 1 full glass.
