    Any April 2018 Sleevers?!?!

Sleeved today April 12th! Also had hiatal hernia repair with mesh! Just a little sore from gas and achy pain in abdomen. Pain pump handles that. Walked 2 laps around ward with my pole. Can’t belies I was so anxious that I took Xanax and only slept 3 hours last night!
  2. I’m up tomorrow too! Good luck!
  3. My surgery is Thursday the 12th if April and I too am freaking out! I called to see if I could take a Xanax the morning of! That being said I know that I am doing this for the right reasons and that this is a very safe surgery. And we’ve been pre tested by a million doctors who don’t want this to fail either! We can do this. Just take deep breaths in and out until the wave of panic subsides. Sending positive vibes your way.

    Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery

I did change doctors who agreed that hiatal hernias are very common and he’s going to repair it when he operates on me next week April 12th. And he said the sleeve was not a problem.

    Hiatal hernia and sleeve surgery

I had an even worse experience. My surgeon operated and found a large hiatal hernia and aborted the surgery. She made me get a barium upper to ensure it was a sliding hernia and then refused to do a sleeve. She referred me to another surgeon who said hernias were very common and that I should have the sleeve at the same time no problem. My operation is now scheduled for April 12 with the new surgeon at a new hospital and it was easily approved by insurance. Good luck.

I agree! I am hoping that my diabetes will at minimum improve and at best be resolved. I am currently taking 3 different meds and an injection daily. I also have high cholesterol and fibromyalgia. Asthma as well. I have lost my energy and my mojo lol! I feel that this tool will put me in control of my life. I want to keep up with my 5 little grandchildren and have a longer and healthier life. We can do this!
  7. My first surgeon had the same strict diet. It was her personal preference. She aborted my first sleeve surgery when she found a large hiatal hernia. My second surgeon is allowing me lunch every day with 4 ounces of chicken or fish, vegetables and 2 ounces of carbs in addition to the shakes etc. post surgery diet is clear liquids for first week then protein shakes then puréed etc. I’m told it’s the surgeons preference It does shrink the liver After the first 4-5 days on total liquid protein plus ice pops I really was fine I got so used to it that I continued after the failed surgery with protein shakes and one small meal hope that helps You can do this!

  9. Sometimes I cut back to four. Cal your Nutritionist and see if she has any ideas. It gets easier.
  10. Me too. Starting the diet April 2nd but I get to eat one low carb meal a day!

    Weight loss

I asked my doctor this question and the insurance counts your first weight and highest not subsequent weights. He’s wrong. Approved is approved

Best of luck Hopeful. Remember we’re all scared but we’re doing this to take charge of our bodies and our lives. The diet seems tough but by the third or fourth day I wasn’t hungry anymore. I was on a totally liquid diet for 2 weeks. This second time around I get one high protein low carb meal a day! I hope nothing goes wrong this time and I actually get the sleeve. Don’t know what I’ll do if I wake up not sleeved again! One day at a time! Keep us up to date.

Hi, I’m 69 and have a date for April 12th. Don’t be afraid of the anesthesia it’s much better today. Long story but I had the surgery in January but it was aborted due to a large hiatal hernia. No problems. Then had sinus surgery in February with general anesthesia no problems. It’s normal to be scared as this is a big step but I’m doing it for my health and to prolong my life!
  16. I’m the one who had sleeve aborted due to large hiatal hernia. Long story short I am now with a new surgeon who sees no problem repairing a hiatal hernia and doing a sleeve. New surgery scheduled for April 12, 2018. Wish me luck!
  17. I had an aborted sleeve in January and sinus surgery 3 weeks ago both with anesthesia and am scheduled April 12th. Neither the doctor or the hospital had a problem with it. Good luck!
  18. Don’t worry, it’s very uncommon to have this happen. On the up side recovery has been easy. Off pain meds by second day. Driving by day 3. Good luck!
  19. So sorry I know how you feel. I was opened up for a sleeve and it was cancelled due to a large hiatal hernia. So pissed off! After 2 weeks on a liquid diet and total terror I wake up with nothing done! And I still have to recover!
  20. I agree. Apparently the conversion from sleeve to bypass would take 6-7 hours.
  21. Doc opened me up and discovered a large hiatal hernia that was missed by the endoscopy. Closed me back up due to my age -69- and says I should have the bypass instead. Advice anyone? So depressed as I have 6 incisions and no sleeve!
  22. She felt that I would be back in 5 years for a conversion to bypass due to severe GERD and that I would be near 75
  23. Nope. Seeing the surgeon tomorrow to see what my options are. I may go to bypass so that my diabetes will resolve which was the number one reason for the surgery. Scared tho wondering whether my insurance will pay for a second surgery. Not sure how long I’d have to wait before it could be done.
  24. My large hiatal hernia was discovered during my sleeve surgery. My doctor cancelled the surgery! She felt if I had the sleeve I would be back in a few years for a bypass due to reflux. Anyone else have their surgery cancer during the surgery??
