    April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?

I know exactly what you’re talking about. It might be called the Big Ward. It’s in New Zealand and all regular people trying to qualify for surgery. I also binge watched the whole thing lol

    April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?

And if you meet your out of pocket max you don’t pay anything! Surgery only cost me $3,000 and I hit that during pre op
  4. Any young bypass patients? I was dead set on the sleeve until I found out I had GERD after my endoscopy. Now I’m reconsidering the bypass but it’s much scarier to me

    Surgery date is set!

How far away from when you got insurance approval was your surgery date??

    Surgery is approved!

How long out from when you received insurance approval was your surgery scheduled for?
  7. I started Prilosec after my endoscopy. I’ve been sooo constipated since I started it three weeks ago. My nutritionist told me today I need to drink extra water and take fiber

    April/May 2018 Sleevers!!?

May! I will be finished with my requirements and submitting to insurance for preapproval after the first week of April
  9. Are you eating correctly? If you’re relying on protein shakes, look at the label and make sure the carbs and sugars are appropriate. There is a New Zealand documentary on Netflix where this actually caused someone to gain weight after surgery
  10. I lost nearly 20 lbs since I started my 6 month diet required by insurance in November. Since I started Prilosec for GERD, I’ve gained 3 lbs. nervous abou going back to my nutritionist tomorrow. I know I haven’t been eating great. But I’ve also been extremely constipated from the new prescription
  11. That’s good to know. I’ve spoken with my primary and unfortunately it is a possible side effect of Prilosec. Some get diarrhea, some get very constipated. It was an instant switch when I started taking the Prilosec after my EGD 3 weeks ago.

I am STILL waiting for approval.

Maybe do a pop in to their office one afternoon

    Had my endoscopy today!

I was bloated after. My stomach hurt when I woke up and was fine with Advil. They found GERD and I started taking Prilosec the same day. This lead to a lot of constipation. You're sedated, not full anesthesia but it’s safe and normal to possibly remember things. I tend to be sensitive to certain things and was exhausted for a couple days after.

    Sleeve or Bypass with GERD?

It amazes me that I had no idea I was even impacted by GERD. Of course now things are clicking.

    Sleeve or Bypass with GERD?

I didn’t even realize I had acid reflux until the endoscopy. Now things are clicking and everyday I’m realizing how it’s impacted me, like “oh, that’s what that is?!”

    Sleeve or Bypass with GERD?

I know you’re right. The bypass just scares me more than the sleeve did. I’m only 23 and the sleeve felt younger and less complicated. But I also saw the pictures of my endoscopy and how severe the GERD was. My mom thinks this endoscopy saved my life. If it was this advanced at 23, I’d be looking at cancer and erosion before I knew it.

    Had my endoscopy today!

Definitely a sign. My endoscopy was last week and I have pretty advanced GERD. I’m 23 and was planning on the sleeve. My surgeon chalked the reflux up to my weight and thinks it will improve after surgery. But I’m strongly reconsidering the bypass instead
  18. My endoscopy last week showed GERD. I was planning on the sleeve but this may honestly change my decision tona bypass as some research shows the sleeve may worsen GERD. The bypass actually cures it instantly

    NOW i'm getting excited

It took my office 2 weeks of me checking in every week before I finally got a date to pick up my home sleep test, which requires a scheduled appointment.... Consult was feb 14. Not getting machine until March 13. They say they’ll have enough time to read results by my follow up March 19th. Definitely was t expecting this much leg work for a sleep study.
  20. By the title of this post, I thought you were talking about the new black panther movie!! There are Great Apes and they are vegetarians lol
  21. So strange that they didn’t see it in the endoscopy, I know it is sometimes found there! I had my endoscopy on Friday. My doctor found pretty severe GERD. Most of the opening to the stomach is discolored and inflamed. I’m only 23 and his assumption in recovery seemed to be I’ve just been heavy my whole life and that must have caused it. I did ask about if my sleeve surgery should still go as planned. He believes in most cases GERD improves or disappears with a sleeve. But because I’m so young and it’s evident I’ve had this problem a while, I’d be more curious to find the route cause before proceeding with a sleeve in May.

    GERD

I had my endoscopy today! So glad that we can check that box. I did learn that I have a pretty progressive case of GERD. He could tell right away from the pictures. My mom came with me and thinks of this as a sign that it’s all meant to be. At 23, most people don’t except you to have GERD let alone a case that has already progressed pretty far. My primary doctor told me just last week to take an acid reducer and it’ll probably be fine. Learning young that I really do have this problem probably just saved me from complications and possible cancer if I waited another 20 years. Just another sign of how worth it pre-op is. The exciting this is that losing weight with a sleeve will improve things pretty quick! Now that I’ve shared...please help me figure out next steps! Foods to avoid? Things I should know about GERD?

    GERD

My surgeon said the same when I asked after the procedure. GERD was really the one side effect of the sleeve and now that I know I’ve been living with it anyway, I’m pretty excited
  24. Did anyone live alone when they had surgery? My mom is going to come and stay with me, but I can’t see her staying more than a week. is there anything I should know about or consider? I have a 15 minute walk in my city to work everyday from my apartment. If I am experiencing too much pain to walk, I will get an Uber. I’ve heard of making sure that things that I need aren’t too low to the ground or too high as bending and reaching can be an painful.

    Living alone after surgery

Thanks for the advice! I haven’t even gotten to think about vitamins yet. My mom lives in NJ and is flying to Charlotte for my surgery, too far to Uber unfortunately lol.
