  1. The meds I was taking before surgery did not include any antipsychotic or mood stabilizer only gabapentin for nerve pain and anxiety (separate issue) and an antidepressant Wellbutrin. Physically the pills were hard to swallow after surgery but as far as affecting weight loss there was no affect. Six months later I have a car accident, am diagnosed with traumatic brain injury and go thru 9 months of in and out hospitals with doctors trying to put me on all these different meds I had never been on before, antipsychotics that were not even needed in the first place and were causing really bad side affects. I’m not sure if the side affects were so bad becuz my stomach was cut down 80% or what or if becuz they switched to a new med so quickly every couple weeks or month either way bad experience. It also caused in the end within 2 months a 25lb weight gain which then started me picking up old eating habits and gaining another 8 lbs. now I feel stuck. Not sure if that helps or not. I’m against antipsychotics or mood stabilizers after surgery!

    Need a pouch reset!

I need advice on what sleeve reset to do. I am a year and three months out. HW 330lbs SW 289 CW 234 GW 150 5’9 I lost 130 lbs very quickly and maintained that the last six months but did not lose any more. I was hospitalized with traumatic brain injury and within two months due to some med changes, gained 25lbs now plus 8 more. Is it possible to stretch out your sleeve that quickly? I went back to being hungry all the time and craving carbs and sweets and then fell back into eating them. Im trying to figure out what the best sleeve reset would be for me? Anyone with experience with this care to share?

    New and Scared

I can relate to the life long struggle. I am 38. Just sleeved 1/23/18. Highest weight 322 Surgery weight 290 Current weight 253 Goal weight 150. I have tried so many diets before and been up and down in weight with nothing that really worked for long or with much weight loss in the last 20 years and been so discouraged and just about given up. I have PCOS, thyroid, been on meds that cause weight gain and was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year and decided to take the plunge. So glad I made the decision! Before the surgery with the support from the clinic, and making small changes preparing for the surgery I was able to lose 40 lbs. I actually chickened out cancelled my surgery holidays hit and gained 10 lbs back and then rescheduled with more confidence and was ready to do it in January. Within a month I lost another 30 lbs right away! It’s an entire lifestyle change now and I’m never looking back. I physically cannot! My stomach won’t allow it! I look forward to my new life each and every day! No longer show diabetic in my lab work and off four of my meds. Life is good! So worth it! What do you have to lose?

    Dr. Garth Davis

My doctor just recommended reading up on his diets and checking out his book.
  8. Squash and zucchini that was made into a stew with carrots!!! Yummy!!! My stomach did just fine as my first foods after three weeks in liquid.

    Flavorless Protein?

How about any lactose free unflavored? On top of not being able to stomach protein shakes now I’m lactose intolerant. The plant based ones don’t make me nauseous or sick but don’t smell great.

    Incision dent

I’m one month post op and I still have the dent in the same spot... The largest incision where the stomach was pulled out. I wondered if that was normal too. That was the one that was painful too and the pain went away but the dent is still there. All the other scars are flat and look great.

    Nuts

I found that I’m lactose intolerant so I’m having to find my protein in plant based protein so cashews are a great source of protein. Thanks for the tip on literally counting them out for counting them though. I can’t eat that many of them. But I don’t eat much of anything really. I’m no where near my calorie protein carb or anything count for the day any day. I’m a work in progress.

    Plant based protein suggestions

I figured out I am lactose intolerant after the three week liquid diet of being nauseous all the time barely getting down any of the whey protein shakes or cream soups. After trying a plant based pea protein shake and not having any symptoms we figured out the problem. Relief!!! So happy to have found the solution!!! Now I am looking into more plant based protein most of I have never tried or can’t pronounce. This is exciting and makes me nervous at the same time to be making such a huge change. Any suggestions for what to try at first? I get overwhelmed looking online. I’m not the best in the kitchen but am eager to start trying new things. Thank you all for your support!
  13. I figured out I am lactose intolerant. All those protein shakes with whey protein have milk in them! No wonder I stayed nauseous ALL the time! I have tried plant based protein (pea-protein) and no nausea! Glad to figure out the solution to that! What a relief!

Blurred vision & major dry mouth

The nausea patch I had behind my ear contributed to the blurred vision as well as all the anesthesia. After about 4 days that went away. The dry mouth was common from all the anesthesia too. Once I got on top of drinking my water a half an ounce per a timer every five minutes plus using Biotene over the counter for dry mouth that helped with that problem. It will get better. Just takes a few days after surgery to get all the meds out of your system from going under. Hang in there!
  15. Sleeved 1/23/18... Day 16 liquid diet stage. Having a hard time with being nauseous most the time. Low energy. Only getting in about 30 grams of protein. Maybe one soup or chicken broth a day. Just barely getting my water intake everyday is a chore in itself. I lost 20 lbs the 1st week and 3 lbs the second. No concerned about the weight loss as much as how to get that protein intake in and how to just feel better as far as energy and not nausea all the time. Any suggestions?
