KatFight got a reaction from Alpaca55 in Slow WL
According to my surgeon, "You're doing great if you lose 2 pounds a week." She didn't want me to expect too much at one time and be disappointed. She said that at my 2-week post-op since I had lost 17 lbs since December. I wish your NUT and DR were less critical toward you. The last thing you need is guilt when only so much is in your control. I had a week of no weight loss the second week after surgery. It was and is very frustrating. 10 lbs./month x 10 months = pretty incredible weight loss. You may have to school them lol Wishing you continued success.

I keep accidentally posting before I’m finished - sorry. I think it would have been helpful to have something a little stronger those first two days 100 pounds in almost 11 months. You have been through significant surgeries in the past. It’s likely that you’ll find this easier than your previous surgeries. (I had a c-section in the past and was prepared for that level of pain and it didn’t reach that point at all.). You can get through this and once you’re on the other side of this, you may find that it was easier than expected (as I did). I wish that for you. Please feel free to message me anytime.

Hi. I have fibromyalgia and am always fighting pain & fatigue. Not easy but my surgery went really well. I was expecting a lot of surgical pain and/or fibromyalgia pain and the surgical pain was less than expected. That first night home (went home in less than 24 hours), I had a lot of pain in my shoulder and back.

Hi Kimberly. I too struggle with depression and anxiety. It’s very easy to reach for food and binge when we feel off and I understand that your asking for helpful suggestions that may keep you from reaching for food. These are basic suggestions and it’s easy to give them an eye roll but put in practice...they just may help.
When the desire to soothe w food hits, refocus by taking a walk; get your hands busy with something - writing in a journal, checking out new videos on YouTube, cleaning (ugh), calling a friend/family member; or visualize a stop sign and say “stop” when you know you are reaching for food out of emotional stress and not hunger. You can also try (if you want to) putting a rubber and on your wrist and when the temptation to binge strikes, snap the rubber band on your wrist. It may seem extreme.
About @James Marusek He is a very positive person and I’m sure meant no harm. He wasn’t negating the severity of your concerns. He was trying to be encouraging by letting you know that things may calm some as hormones are flushed out of your system.
I wish you better days ahead 🌻

Hi. It’ll all be ok. It’s easy to become concerned when you’re not losing in a given week, especially right after having surgery (when you are consuming very little). I had a number of those moments since my December surgery. Part of the concern is...I just went through all of this and what if it doesn’t work for me even when I’m doing my part, right?
I was 305 lbs in the beginning of July last year. I’m now 205 lbs. The weight will come off. Just remind yourself of that when doubts cloud your vision. 🦋

Try not to compare your rate of weight loss with others. I had RNY gastric bypass and dropped weight very quickly but then I transitioned into the maintenance phase at 7 months. Many individuals that underwent the sleeve lose weight at a much slower clip, encounter many stalls along the way but they can almost achieve the same level of weight loss over time. Many do not transition to the maintenance phase until over 2 years post-op.

Ugh. While I do sympathize and validate the feelings expressed here, someone has just GOT to talk about the elephant in the living room with the pink tutu on!
Reality check here guys...your brains are totes SCREWED up! I don't know what does it. Maybe it's all the fault of My 600lb Life? Dunno...
But OP you've lost 14lbs in ONE WEEK (by your words Aug 21 thru Aug 28--that's 7 days if math serves me). Let me repeat that and shout it out for you: YOU'VE LOST 14 LBS IN ONE FREAKIN' WEEK! Instead of being busted and down, you should want to turn cartwheels. That's amazing! Congrats! Turn that frown upside down and get ready for the very common "3 week stall" that happens somewhere between weeks 2 and 4. You will likely average anywhere from 2-4lbs/week. This is not magic surgery. And WL will never be linear. It's the best thing that's ever happened to most of us. (And for the record? I've NEVER lost 14lbs in one week. EVS.)
    .
I honestly want to ask if you're pullin' our chain? Cuz let's do some more basic math: August 21 - Sept. 4 = 13days. In 13 days you've lost 20lbs. That is WELL over 1lb per day. LOL. That's phenomenal and you can't possibly hope to keep that up. It won't happen. Please read above at the 3week stall phenomenon.
You ladies, need to reality check your brains and reframe how you look at this surgical intervention. This is usually about slow steady progress--not huge losses overnight. But some DO experience those dramatic losses. Hell. You are both experiencing it right now.
Dig in. Sit back. Do the work and enjoy the ride. Cuz the weight loss WILL happen unless you screw the pooch. And nobody wants to screw the pooch.
Congrats to you both. I'd trade places with either of you in a heart beat.

As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine or through your sweat. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily Fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

There is absolutely no way of knowing.
Many people are rapid healers with little pain and little to no nausea. I was lucky and had a super easy surgery and healing experience. If you draw this card...you probably won't have any trouble doing a few hours of desk work after a few days.
But there are plenty of other people who have severe nausea, complications, partial stricture, healing difficulties, setbacks, dehydration, difficulty drinking etc. If you draw this card, you could be in trouble for a few weeks or even months.
Keep in mind that people who feel well enough to attend support group at 1-2 weeks likely fall in the first category.
Luck of the draw. Wishing you the very best outcome.

I'm only 5/6 WEEKS post-op, so perhaps I’m not the person you hoped to hear from.
First, I want to applaud you for trying to think ahead. All these unknowns can mess with your mind.
Yes! Yes! Yes! You have every right and you deserve to be treated with respect in an honest and thoughtful way. It's not easy to ask questions when you're unsure about what kind of answers you'll receive.
Anyway.... The first thing that popped out at me was the general bargaining tone of your questions. What I mean is this: You love eating X , drinking X, and doing X so much that you’re hoping to bargain your way out of the commitment that you'd need to make in order to be truly successful. Kindly notice that I didn't say that doing any of these things would be 100% terrible. My point is that you need to be prepared to give up some things that you genuinely enjoy NOW in order to get the ONE thing that you apparently want the MOST. Is losing weight and improving your health what you want the MOST? If it is, then you've established your top priority.
I know these sentences will sound silly the first time you read them, but they are meant to make you really think hard about what is truly important to you versus what seems important NOW. It all boils down to you being willing to give up something in order to get something else that's better. Again, I didn't say that you must give up any of these things, but you have to plant the seed deep into your head that you would be willing to give up one or all of these things if it meant the difference between being getting what you like or love NOW versus what you really want LATER.
    1. My favorite food chain is in LA, In-N-Out Burger where I like to eat a cheeseburger and small fry with like a milkshake, but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
    2. I absolutely LOVE sparkling Water like La Croix and San Pellegrino, but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
    3. I like to have myself an occasional couple of social beverages, such as mixed drinks (hard liquor) and wine, but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
    4. A lot of people have a sweet tooth, and I love the occasional scone, croissant, cookie, French macaron, etc., but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
    5. I'm ADDICTED to coffee and espresso beverages; lattes, macchiatos, cappuccinos, matcha lattes sweetened with flavored syrups like a pump of lavender or simple Syrup or matcha powder, but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
    6. I'm not stupid. I know it's an addictive habit and I'm trying to quit smoking cigarettes and e-cigs like Juul's, but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
    7. I eat I like to sip on Water or unsweetened iced tea, coffee while eating a snack or meal, but losing weight and improving my health is what I want the most.
I’ve spent more time on this post than on any other so far. That’s because you and your topic are both important and you deserved my full effort. I’m not implying that my full effort is worth more or less than anyone else’s effort, but you deserved more than just a quicky reply with no real time or effort invested in it.
We all started where you are now. We’ve all wondered about how our lives would change after weight-loss surgery. Would we be able to handle all the new and different lifestyle changes or would we end up having regrets?
Please take my post in the caring spirit in which it was written. I had other, more pressing things to do tonight, but I chose to write to you instead. Did I waste my time?

    Yes, I looked forward to leaving 7XL and 6XL shirts, 66-inch waist work-slacks and 9X track-pants behind.
Today is 35 weeks since surgery. 47 kg (104 pounds) lighter.
I'm wearing 2XL and some XL shirts/polos. My slacks are 48-inch waist. I'm in 4X track-pants. My shoes are looser on my feet.
I used to be 15mm from belly to bottom of my car steering-wheel. (Half an inch for American readers.)
Now I am 155mm (6.5") from flatter belly to the steering-wheel (and because of my smaller arse, my seat is a few notches closer to the front of the car too).

A non-weight loss personal goal I had was this Victoria's Secret nightgown I haven't ever fit into this night I finally fit into comfortably without buttons bulging. I'm almost at 199.9, everyone is different and their journeys are as well. But, this did make me smile. Just thought I'd share. Sometimes it's the little things.

Finally made it to 100+ pounds (46+ kg) off in just under 10 months after I first met the surgeon.
That's 7 months since surgery and over 30 kg (66 pounds) lost.
The attached pic is a selfie taken on the bus home from the Australian movie "Breath" two days ago.

A much thinner face but a fair bit of loose chin skin.

Today, 05/07/18, is the day I hit my weight goal! 194.8 as of this morning. Still have some work to do, and can definitely lose more, but to be able to say that, is quite refreshing. Now I will turn my focus to adding some muscle and hopefully lose the little belly that is still there!
Keep up the good work all of you!

    Contrasting over 11.5 months.
First pic in red beanie is from mid-May 2017 ... five months before surgery and about 177kg (390 pounds). BMI = 57.13
Second pic from less than two weeks ago (i.e late April) ... six and a bit months post surgery ... at 131kg (289 pounds) & BMI 42.3.
The two pics were taken on the same verandah less than a metre apart 11.5 months time-lapse. Interesting that I happened to be wearing the same sports pullover/top both days. (There's a 'shipload' of spare space in that top now!)

I have been at a stall for a few weeks now. But my measurements are down. Been having some depression and a lot of pain. Today was my 6 month check up, but I had to cancel because I am sick! (Strep throat is floating around our household!) so i need to reschedule. Weight was 350. Day of Surgery I was 260. 6 months 207. My measurements blew me away!
    1/2016- 4/25/18
    Weight 350 - 207 = 143 lbs
    Bust 53” - 44 1/2” = 8.5”
    Waist 48” - 40” = 8”
    Hips 59” - 48 1/2 “ = 10.5”
    R arm 17” - 14 1/2” = 2.5”
    L arm 17” - 14 1/2” = 2.5”
    R thigh - 29.5” - 25” = 4.5”
    L thigh - 29” - 25” = 4”
40.5” total lost! I dont like my scale!
    Getting there!

I am going to try to post some pics later. I have lost 79 lbs from my highest. I am 5'10" and now at 184....I look good!! My face looks a bit thin, but I'm ok with it. I was having a bit of thinning hair but not too badly...and it seems to be thickening up again. I am Soooooooo happy that I had this surgery. Like, ridiculously happy. 79 lbs gone!

I am eating so much less, Mostly healthy foods, staying active. My goal is 170-175....so I am pretty close.

79 lbs gone in just a bit over 6 months!!!
