Good advice...from a woman...in the Guys’ Room. Plus think of how awkward it would be at your follow-up visits if she said “no” (which she almost certainly will).

TerriWoods reacted to PdxMan in Do you still identify as a wls patient?
I will identify myself and tell my story if I feel it may be of service to someone else. I have been in circles where the topic comes up. As I am sure many of use has experienced, there is a lot of misinformation out there. I am more than happy to straighten them out! HA!
But also when I am around someone who I know is struggling with their weight, I may casually mention something like, "Oh, I started [fill in the blank] ever since I had WLS", and I leave it right there. If they want to inquire about it more, I am happy to share my experience, but otherwise, I drop it as I know for myself, I would have been pissed if someone told me I needed WLS.

Now, on a personal basis, yes, I still identify myself as being a WLS patient. It is hard not to when I am at a wedding reception buffet. There are 10 great things that I would love to sample, but I know I have limited real estate in there. It's like, "Oh, man, that thai meatball was incredible ... I'd love to have just one more", but I know I can't if I also want to sample other things. I don't regret having WLS, but it is hard not to ignore the reality. I'm glad I have the sleeve as if I didn't, I would be eating large quantities of everything. WLS helps me be mindful and I don't want to forget that.

I'm 60 and getting ready to retire. I also have Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and all the assorted aches and pains that come with age. My surgery is scheduled for 5/23/18. What I'm scared of is that it normally takes us older folks longer to heal than younger folks. But since I've started the liquid diet , I've already lost nine pounds and have stopped taking my quick acting insulin. Looking forward to hopefully getting to stop most of my prescription meds and feeling better!

Hi I am 62 and had a bypass on 05/08/18. Best thing ever I have done for myself. I have already cut my heart meds in half and cut out 3 out 4 high blood pressure meds. I have lost 21 lbs in 12 days since surgery. You will wish uou did this much sooner.
Good luck and remember to follow your doctor’s food and Vitamin regime after surgery. First week concentrate on getting all 62 ounces of Water in. That is very important. Also 2 days after surgery your stomach will be massively bruised looking. It’s normal due to anticlotting meds that they put in stomach.

Until I discovered that over the winter, my tires had lost air.
It makes a HUGE difference when your tires that should hold 50-60 psi....have about 20 pounds in them.
    Lesson Learned!
Was so glad to try it again after I aired the tires up....was the first time I'd gone for a ride since last fall, and it felt dishearteningly awful with the squishy tires.
With proper air....i'm flying again:) Felt wonderful to go a couple of miles and back. Really enjoying riding my bike again!

here's my take on it you are really young to be getting this surgery. there is a lot to contend with at your age. not drinking be a big one. in my program it is one full year. wow at 21 i sure as heck would not have wanted to give that up. also going out to get crap food with my friends while drinking was a major thing be cause we were all broke in college and a McDonald double cheese burger costs less than a pan era cease er salad with grilled chicken. so yeah i get it. but man if i would have gotten my crap together i would have done this years sooner spent way less time as heavy as i am my knees would not be a wreck my back would not be a wreck my hips. but i agree right now you need therapy. i did intense therapy for two years before surgery was even an option. because i needed healing alot of my food issues were routed in trauma of my past. and i used my weight as a shield to keep people from hurting me but not every one does that but tons of young people do so please get therapy revisit this in a few years

The way that I look at it is that the pre op diet is the easiest part. It’s just two weeks that you have to get through. After surgery is the true test. A real lifestyle change.

Maybe you really do need to see a therapist as others have suggested.

I am 30 and I WISH I would have gotten this done YEARS sooner. You really need to be ready to change your life. If you are not ready, fine. That’s ok. Just don’t blame anyone. There’s nothing wrong with not being ready. But go speak to someone about it. Therapy can really help.

You know what you did, it didn't hurt you as,much as it did others. Go get some consulting at a good. therapist. Let me Well, you a little of my story and I hope you'll listen. I am 72 years old, oh you will say "she's old, doesn't know what she's talking about!" But I do. It took me years and years to get ready for surgery, I was too busy, I had a family to take care of, my parents would disagree, my late husband would certainly have disagreed, and I've almost left it too late. At this point, the thought or prospect of surgery frightens me much less than the thought of no surgery, living in a fat painful body that is slowing down because the years of me carrying around this, much weight, I weigh 323 lbs on a 5ft8in nody, and in a very short, time, maybe a year or so may kill me. And although many of my friends have. done it, I DO NOT WANT TO DIE! As many others on here will tell, you I have, for the past few months, fought an uphill battle to gain my surgery. I have been through all my testing and classes and it still hasn't happened. But I am not a quitter, I want it too bad to stop now. This might sound cruel but if you aren't going to do anything with the chances you've been given, please, get out of MY Way, I want so badly and you are slowing me down . By all that is holy, move to one side and let ME through.! Now before it's too D*** Late! .....Thank You

I agree. I cancelled mine 4 years ago. I'm 55 now and think of all of the years I've been so heavy and in pain. SO wish I could have done this at your age.

When you change your mind about major surgery at the last minute:
    1. You are depriving other people of that surgery spot
    2. You are creating endless paperwork for both your surgeon's office and your insurance.
    3. You are behaving in the most self absorbed way imaginable and inconveniencing others.
    4. None of your excuses for not following through hold Water. You don't seem to care about how this effects anyone but you.
    Your behavior is unacceptable.
I don't blame your surgeon at all for giving you a final warning.

Looking forward to this forum and my husband is skinny and him and my friends are always asking me to eat and hang out. I might just take a couple bites of Protein of their plates and be good. I can ask for a coloring sheet and colors to keep busy when everyone else is finishing their meals.
