Yes! I’m terrified too. I’m on January 17, and I’ve given myself a full blown anxiety disorder because of my fear of doing it. But I know it has to be done if I want to live a long and healthy life. I’ve read numerous research studies about anaesthesia and it’s safety and it is very safe. I’m not too scared about that part of it, it’s more about the unknowns. Like, what will my new stomach be like? What can I tolerate, food and Fluid wise? Will I have any serious complications etc etc. I think it’s extremely normal to feel scared and anxious, and second guess our decisions.
If you’re really struggling, there’s no harm in considering pushing your date back and perhaps seeking some counsel from your surgeon or a therapist.
I have not read about a single person regretting their decision for WLS and I think that’s what’s keeping me going. Even despite some people having a tougher time than others, they still say they don’t regret surgery.
Try to focus on all the ways the surgery will help you, but also acknowledge your fears. This too shall pass! All the best on your journey

Yes, needing every dose of narcotics on schedule 3 days out is unusual. Sorry, but it is. And it's raising red flags with the staff for a reason.
The nurses were likely not giving you pain meds immediately because they might have been doing you a favor trying to help wean you off. Particularly, if your surgeon does not send home any narcotic meds.
By asking for more meds, and demanding they be given as soon as possible....you are extending your hospital stay. You won't be released until you can go without them for longer and longer periods of time.
Also, all of those narcotics will completely stop your gut from functioning...creating other issues which will slow your healing.
You're shooting yourself in the foot.
Less is better. Want to go home? Try the Tylenol.
Some discomfort after surgery is good. It reminds you not to do things that cause injury.

Thank you for the info. I wondered the same things as most Drs give heparin injections while still in the hospital.
This is sad for you and a bit unnerving for the rest of us that have not yet had surgery.

I just read something really inspirational from another member who posted about trusting the rational self that had to jump through all the hoops to get here. You knew what you were doing and I think it's important to remember the reasons why you're embarking on this journey. It won't always be easy, but it also won't always be hard once you've learned how to 'drive' your new stomach :). Cheating on the pre-op diet is almost a given with our population, which is why the sleeve is so useful for us. This tool will teach you very quickly what cheating does (i.e. feeling icky if you eat something you shouldn't). Like another user said earlier in this thread, right now cheating doesn't do anything, but cheat on your sleeve and it will certainly teach you a lesson aversion therapy was and is a real thing! Wishing you all the strength and good vibes to get through this challenge.

I'm a little more than 8 months out from my bypass/hernia repair and have lost about 95 pounds. I've had a few long stalls (like 2 months) and both times the NUT told me to increase to 800 on the first one and 1000 on the second one and 1200 on the third one and I started losing again and broke the stall. Its so counterintuitive for sure but I am a big believer in eating more to lose. Good luck!

When I had my RNY, I slept on my right side. I was always a stomach sleeper. It took awhile to get used to it. Since I lost weight I have a small pillow to put between my knees. After my WLS I couldn't sleep on my left side because that was the worse side for pain. Due to them using that side for the Instruments to go thru. Around 12 years ago I had to have back surgery, the only way I could sleep was on my right side. I have become a side sleeper. LOL One little ti-bit I have found if I have gas (and I have a lot of gas) if I use my PAPAYA ENZYMES (100% natural) and lie on my left side it helps me get rid of it. Also if I am sick to my stomach something about my left side helps so much.

For the first few days after surgery, I slept on my back with a body pillow over my stomach to keep my cat from sleeping on me like she would like to. I tried sleeping on my side several times, but the pain wouldn't let me until about two weeks later. I'm generally a side and stomach sleeper and I wasn't able to comfortably sleep on my stomach until maybe 3 or 4 weeks post surgery.

Right after I had to sleep on my back with my upper body slightly elevated (a recliner didn't work for some reason). Now just a little further out I'm sleeping on my back or my left side (my left side only has one incision, my right side - which I can't sleep on has 2 including the bigger one). I accidentally laid on my stomach for a few minutes last night and that was a mistake.

On my back, then, when I could tolerate it, on my side with a pillow to support the incision site. Now I can sleep on my stomach once more.

Yes - I am also a side sleeper. For the first four nights I slept in a recliner chair in hospital. Once home and in a bed, I could sleep comfortably on my side with a soft cushion/short pillow sort of under my tummy. A few days later, I just seemed to hold it in front of my tummy, and now just over two weeks post surgery I don’t need it.
Makes the world of difference getting a good sleep! Good luck...

That was one my biggest annoyances. I had to sleep on my back for about a week, and I'm exclusively a side sleeper. Between the surgery and a bruised rib during, it was impossible to side sleep. Sometimes recliner helped, sometimes not.

I’m on the 17th of Jan too!! . It sounds like you’re pretty prepared for post-op. I’m cooking up Soups to purée and freeze so I won’t need to worry about that stuff when I get home. Aside from that, I figure I’ll buy what I need as I learn about my new stomach and health needs.

That’s so awesome to hear! I am so pleased you’re enjoying the sleeve and feel it was a great decision. I’m second-guessing but I know that’s all part of the nerves and anticipation.

As a fellow anxiety sufferer, I feel for you. I’m also super proud of you for taking on the challenge and conquering it. That gives me a lot of hope!

Thank you for sharing, and I will follow your journey .

I was sleeved in August, so I'm 4 months post op. Getting sleeved has been the best decision I've ever made in my life. I've lost 45 kg so far and I intend to really focus on exercise in 2018 so I'm hoping my losses will increase.
I also suffer from crippling anxiety (as well as bipolar) my psychiatrist was a great help in settling my mind and helping my realize why I was making this decision.
    Good luck!
