    White tongue after surgery...

I’m also 5 days post op and my tongue looks like I licked white paint!!! You’re definitely not alone. I thought it was thrush too but it’s not painful or anything. Would love to know what it could be!
  2. Has anyone experienced an increase in their PVCs/skipped heartbeats post-surgery? I’m only 4 days post-op but have been having a frequent run of PVCs today for some unknown reason! Just wanting to know if anyone else experienced anything like this?

    PVCs/skipped heart beats

Thank you! I think I may be having an electrolyte issue so I’ll incorporate an electrolyte drink into my fluids. The nurse at my surgeon’s office suggested I go see my PCP to be on the safe side as I had around 4000-5000 PVCs all day and night yesterday. Not the norm for me, although I’m prone to them.

    1 day post op

And I’m full off two paracetamol tablets. Bon appetit to me [emoji23]!

    1 day post op

That’s good to know! I drank 500ml of water in a span of 6hours the day of surgery and was told to slow down! Fluids are going down well, I’m just a bit more swollen today so burping more after each sip. But I get to try some yoghurt today ). Hoping it doesn’t make me ill!

    1 day post op

So I’ve been told “you look great!” By all the nurses and my surgeon lol. I’ll be going home tomorrow thankfully. Tolerating fluids quite easily except now when I overdid it taking my paracetamol pills. Whoops!

    Surgery tomorrow

And that’s okay - maybe at that time of your life you weren’t ready. Just remember all the reasons why you’ve opted to do the surgery and everything you stand to gain by doing it. You’ve got this! [emoji1377]

    Surgery tomorrow

You will ace it! I was an anxious wreck and they gave me a huge fast acting shot of midazolam that calmed me right down. Just let them know you’re nervous, they’ll take care of you. I’m out the other side and can assure you it’ll be just fine! Good luck !
  10. And I’m off to the hospital now for VSG! I must admit I’m absolutely terrified and second guessing whether this is the right decision. Having strong thoughts of backing out but I’m sure this is somewhat normal. I came this far!

Thank you! I just need to get there and be knocked out asap
  13. So my surgery is tomorrow 17/1! I’m wracked with nerves right now. Hoping I can get a good night’s sleep and not be up anxious all night [emoji13]. Any final words of wisdom are most welcome! Will be meeting you all on the loser’s bench soon!

    Tomorrow’s the big day!

I just burst with laughter [emoji23]!!! Reminds me of that episode of the Simpson’s when Homer’s hospital gown blows in the wind while he’s walking the halls hahaha. Thank you! I’ve packed some super stretchy lounge pants and bought underwear 3 sizes too big so I’m not constricted [emoji23].

    Tomorrow’s the big day!

Thank you so much! The anxiety today is through the roof. Just waiting on the nurse to call me and give me my operation time . Thank you for the heads up about all the waiting - that’s enough time for anyone to work themselves up into a stupor [emoji23]. Excellent suggestions regarding the mask and earplugs! I just packed them in my bag now, thank you! Xoxo

    Two years post op

A very big congratulations to you; you put in the hard yards! You look amazing and I’m sure you feel amazing health-wise. Glad things stabilised for you over time. The psychological side of things is always the hardest. Congratulations again! Well done.

    Petrified!!!!....but had an epiphany

Oh my! You sound exactly like me! I’m constantly told my BP is high and my HR is high when I’m anywhere near a doctor lol but it only happens when I’m stressing about health related things! The irony! I hope you’re feeling better and continue to make peace with it all. This surgery will do us so much good, we’ll be feeling like two fools for ever worrying [emoji13]. I’m 7 days away so I’ll be right behind you! Would love to keep in touch.

    Petrified!!!!....but had an epiphany

Oh my gosh I feel like I’m reading my own thoughts in your post! I’m having surgery in a week, and I’m a week into pre-op diet. Struggling, but getting through. I keep second guessing myself just like you, and I also saw pictures of myself a few days ago that eliminated all doubt in my mind: I have to do this surgery. Thank you for sharing your thoughts - I have never related to something so much. I’m so glad I’m not alone in these thoughts and fears!

    Beyond nervous

Thank you! I’ll keep you posted so you know what to expect to some degree . Everyone’s experience is unique. All the best with this decision; you will overcome this. Fear is totally normal.

    Beyond nervous

Hey Brittany, I’ll start off by saying I’m also 27, and having my surgery on January 17th (currently on preop diet). I can relate to your comment about making such a life changing decision so young. I grappled with that immensely and at the end of the day I had to choose between continuing on my barrage of failed diets, failed lifestyle changes, etc, or to do something permanently to help me avoid getting prematurely ill or dying young. I have only one health complication, high cholesterol, but I’m now borderlining high BP as well. I know that if I keep going the way I’m going, I will be having a triple bypass by the age of 40; and that’s if I survive any sudden and/or catastrophic health issues. I had to look at this surgery as a preventative life saving measure. I know it’s hard at 27 to think we are changing the course of our lives (along with our anatomy) permanently, but it’s a positive change. I have not heard anyone say they regret the sleeve, and many members here will tell you they were scared too, but after doing it, they wish they had done it sooner. I wish you all the best on your journey to making peace with your decision. It’s a roller coaster of emotions but it’s important you determine why you’re opting to do the surgery and how it can help you long term. Happy to support you if you need anything. You’ve got this [emoji1377]
  22. I’ve started the dreaded preop diet today! Which means I’m officially two weeks away from surgery [emoji28]! Here’s hoping it’s a smooth (and not too hangry) two weeks. The nerves are helping with suppressing my appetite at least [emoji23]. All the best to those who have just started or will start their preop diets!

    3+ years post op

Hello! I’ve read regain is super common, but manageable if you can identify where you might be struggling. Is it that you’re able to eat a larger amount? Perhaps tolerating a range of different foods? Over-indulgence? Lack of exercise? Some combination of all? It’s hard once we are years out from surgery; but going back to pre-op basics and remembering what we did in the first year might help. I believe in you! You lost that weight once before, you can do it again [emoji1377]. Wishing you all the best on your journey.
  24. sleevedin2018

    Started pre-op diet today!

Thank you! I’m on the dreaded day 3 and I feel terrible haha. My whole body has these slight jitters/tremors: talk about a detox! I spent the day fantasising about a can of tuna... A CAN OF TUNA! [emoji23]. Lord have mercy Thank you for your kind words!

    Liquid Diet Phase

I went on a massive unfollowing spree on FB so I don’t see any yummy food [emoji23]. That’s good you’re able to see your eating patterns now. I realised just how much head hunger I actually have! Crazy isn’t it? All the best for your surgery on the 15th! I’ll be right behind you then haha . We will get through this. Feel free to keep in touch if you need any support.
