KCgirl061 got a reaction from Ready 4slim in My progress pictures
So I've reached my first goal. I didn't really have a number on the scale in mind, but a jeans size in mind. I want to be at a size 8 and can finally now fit in them. I'm only 4 months out and hope to still lose some weight because of the statistics of people who regain a little. I want to lose more so I when my weight settles, it settles at the weight I'm at now and not 10lbs and a jean size higher. I love my new body and vow to take better care of it from now on so I don't go back!

Something that might help is getting a cast Iron skillet! It adds iron to your food that’s cooked in it.

I was amazed to learn that normal people don’t have “obsessive food chatter” I want to live that life so bad.

This is what I experienced. I spent the first 2 weeks just sitting in a recliner sipping. After 3 weeks off I returned to my job and went straight to bed exhausted when I got home. It was another week or two before I felt like I had normal energy levels.

KCgirl061 reacted to Smanky in Question About BMI
The BMI is a flawed guide, with "guide" being the operative word. I'm *JUST* in the "normal BMI" range now, and I'm a US6-8/AU10-12, at 5 foot 7 inches. My collarbone, neck tendons, chest bones all stick out, I can see my ribs, my muscles and tendons in my arms etc. I can even see my hip bones through the loose skin. I look skinny - I know I do, because I get a shock every time I see my full-body reflection, and I've been called skinny by others. But my BMI and the Hip/Waist ratio markers all suggest I'm not. My Hip/Waist ratio tells me I'm still quite overweight! It really doesn't take body shape into account as I've never had an hourglass figure - I joke that I'm shaped like a plank with tits. Straight up and down.
So don't take the BMI to heart, and I think it would be a good idea to tell this doctor your history. Some doctors don't think beyond their charts, unfortunately.

Having WLS is like learning to swim.
You can read everything there is about swimming technique and breathing technique, watch videos about how your limbs are supposed to move, how to keep your body afloat on the Water etc. etc. etc....
... but all of this is worth zilch as soon as you hit the cold water for the first time.

I am so sorry that you've gone through so much difficulty. But, it will get better, in time. My only suggestion would be to maybe see about speaking with a therapist. I have one and he has helped me a lot.

KCgirl061 reacted to STLoser in Loosing teeth after gastric bypass and the easy way out?
Also, even if it WERE the easy way out, which it is not, what is so wrong with doing something the easy way!? So we should do everything the hard way or it doesn't count!? We have so many things to make our lives easier (washing machines, dishwashers, etc) and no one accuses us of taking the easy way out with those. Maybe we should just go back to hand washing all our clothes with a washboard. Wouldn't want to take the easy way out!
    I'm sorry. I'm ranty today. [emoji51]

That the stall at or around the 3 week mark, the stall you will inevitably hit is the worst mind screw there is lol And to be ready that the incision they pull the stomach out of, and the abdominal muscles around there, hurt the worst. And that getting my fluids in would be easier if I drank warm fluids and not cold ones.

Anything salty. Or anything sweet (but not too sweet!)
Bonus points for being both salty AND (not to) sweet!
DOUBLE bonus points for being crunchy.
prime example: these babies i had after dinner last night! (Yogurt-covered pretzel x2)
But TBH, they aren’t really a nemesis for me cuz they only sap my energy if I have too much….if i keep it at small portions, I can retain the upper-hand 😂💪🏼
p.s. for those keeping score, 50 cals for both.

I'm more than a year out and have regained that 15 pounds too. I know its common but after so many years spent watching the scale go up and up - I cant help but worry that 15 pounds will turn into 20 then 25 then next thing I know I'm back to my surgery weight!
psst... my ticker is also a lie! It says I'm at 130 but I'm really at 143. But its been a while since I've messed with it and cant remember how to change it. Not that I'm trying too hard 😳

So what I decided to do was track my food again. And join a gym. I figure if I'm going to spend the time and money to work out I dont want it to go to waste by over eating or eating unhealthy.

Have you been having pain since your surgery or is this a recent development? It could be that your stomach is still healing and needs more TLC before it can handle the foods youre throwing at it. Maybe try going back to soft foods or even pureed for a week or so.

Also, you could be swallowing too big of pieces. Try slowing down and really chewing your food to that applesauce consistancy.

I don’t see how people can expect to be successful early on without tracking Protein and Water. As most of the folks that have had successful weight loss have noted if you meet the 64 oz Fluid guidelines and 60-80 oz of protein daily the tool works. If one was not willing to do that I am not sure why surgery was considered a good option for the OP. The surgery team needs accurate data in order to help you so there has to be some sort of tracking to measure what one is eating. Protocols were developed for a reason. The bullshit is expecting results with little adherence to the recommended protocol.

You need to get into some counseling ASAP. Its pretty clear you have some unrealistic expectations of what WLS was and how it would work, and you also might need some support on how to manage your new life and adjust post-op. I'm sorry this has been so disappointing and frustrating for you, but as others have said, weight loss surgery is a tool not a magic wand. You absolutely can overeat if you want to, it just makes it harder. But if you aren't tracking what/how much you're eating, how do you know if you're overeating? And exercise is good for you; sounds like you are really resistant to that, but the reality is you need to move your body regularly. Whether you are trying to lose weight or not, your body NEEDS it.
Again, your feelings are valid, WLS is a massive life change. But some additional support for your emotional/mental health would probably be really helpful for you. You can't have the surgery and then refuse to comply with the post-op requirements and then be angry that surgery "isn't working" for you. It is, but YOU need to make it work. We are here to cheer you on, but you've got to do your part.

The surgery is not bullshit. You just weren’t/aren’t in the right frame of mind to lose weight right now. Like others have said, it is a tool. If you are not disciplined enough to use the tool you will not get the results you want. Don’t get mad at the surgery/process/surgeon……be mad with yourself.
I truly hope you can figure out how to use the this tool to get the results you want….it is not magic after all. You actually have to put in the work.

It sure doesn't sound like you had realistic expectations of WLS, and I'm wondering how you were approved for it.
Instead of cursing your surgery, though, how about investing in some bariatric therapy to help you develop some new attitudes and strategies that will make you happier as you do the hard work we all need to do to lose weight?

Because the surgery helps people better manage a very strict diet program so they can actually sticks to it. Some people lose their hunger for months, making it much easier to be satisfied at 800 calories. Even when hunger returns, a smaller stomach helps with Portion Control.
