I saw that at the grocery store, but didn’t get it. I got some low sodium chicken broth, and some high Protein legume and veggie broth. The legume and veggie broth was GROSS! The V8 has saved me. I can warm it up and pretend it’s soup! Merry Christmas.

I had mine the same day as you. Awful nausea for about 48 hours after. Maybe the anesthesia? I’m doing pretty good. Staying sedentary and taking about 1/2 or a Norco 2x a day.

The “no reds” liquid diet is for people about to have a colonoscopy. My mom had just had one when I was getting ready for my liquid diet. I had to ask bc my doc didn’t specify “no reds.”

I love messy, creamy wraps but don't do all the mayo any longer. So I mix some country dijon with a little Duke's and some WF Amazin Chipotle Mayo and sprinkle on granulated garlic. So good.
    Turkey Swiss Spinach Wrap
    1/2 Lite Flatout
    1oz BH's Lite Lacy Swiss
    2oz BH's smoked turkey breast
    1/2oz onion
    1 1/2oz baby spinach
    1 1/3oz grape tomatoes
1/2tsp Duke's Mayo, 1tbs WF Amazin Chipotle Mayo, 1tsp Country Dijon
    1 tsp WF Italian Dressing
    1/8 tsp granulated garlic

I had a Starkist tuna Creations packet, ranch-flavored, sprinkled with seasoning salt and spread onto baked gouda (100% cheese) "crackers." The baked cheese things made it way better.
This made for a 150 calorie, 20 grams of Protein, 2 grams of carbs lunch. I usually go lighter for lunch so that I can have something better for dinner or a more interesting snack later.

I would say.... Are you considering weight loss surgery, too? I can hook you up with my surgeon:)
It's possible that she, herself, has had bypass in the past and she had a different experience than you're having. I know other sleevers who are horrified I ate 1000 calories a day at 3 weeks...even though I'm following my doctor's orders precisely. Because my doctor's orders conflicts with theirs....i'm wrong and there's no winning. LOL:)
I think you should investigate why she's so interested.
I'd ask her if she's had bypass herself.
When she says...Should you be eating that? Ask...her if she's a secret bariatric surgeon or bariatric nutritionist? Because surely her expertise must be coming from some hidden formal education.
She'll undoubtedly counter.....Well, I'm just concerned that you're going to hurt yourself and blah blah blah...
To which you should respond.....Thank you for your concern, but what, exactly, gives you the right to address my medical issues? I don't recall soliciting your input.
She'll blather on about trying to help.
Say....I don't experience your comments that way. I experience them as criticism and harassment. Kindly stop.
And then change the subject and try to end on a positive note. Ending on a more positive note is important. You do have to work with her...and she might just be too dumb to realize she has no business commenting. For all you know, she lives with someone who nitpicks everything she eats. Try to give her that benefit of the doubt and let it go.
    Should do the trick.

I just told my doctor that I’d tried losing weight. She knew I had taken pills and lost and gained. Done weight watchers. I asked for a referral to the bariatric surgeon in town. My doc was very understanding about it. She went through everything with me before I talked to the surgeon. Good luck!

Thank you everyone for your kind words! I’m trying SO hard to focus on the positive changes but when I look at my before picture I can’t believe I let myself get there. I missed reunions and all sorts of events bc of how I felt about myself. I just need to focus on now.

I haven’t, but I got my period right after my surgery. It was THE heaviest flow I’d ever had, and lasted over a week, when it’s never been longer than three days. I took my pill several days before my cycle stopped. Are you taking an Iron supplement? I know a lot of times heavy periods can deplete iron. Call your doctor if it hasn’t stopped by the end of what should be your next cycle. I wouldn’t worry too much. Major surgery + weight loss can whack up your system! Good luck!

How long after you swallow your food do you wait until you take another bite? Even though I bite my food 20-30 times after a while I start feeling nauseated and I just want to vomit. I wait about 2 -3 seconds between the time I swallow and the time I take another bite. I'm barely eating at all, I sometimes only take 3-4 spoons of food and I feel full and not hungry.

Maybe try some clear Protein waters or sugar free Gatorade? Don’t dehydrate! That would be awful!

I’m not sure. It may be one of those things that lasts forever. My doctor said it was “negative reinforcement” for eating too fast. Guess I need to learn my lesson!

MissSimpson reacted to genericwlshandle in 1 month out, feel like I'm starting over
I'm about a month out, and all of a sudden I'm feeling like I'm back at week 1.
The first week post-op was a little rocky, but I gradually started approaching my Fluid and supplement goals. At my one month check-up (1/3), I got the thumbs up from my NUT, despite hardly eating (maybe a tablespoon or 2 every other day?) because I was gradually improving. Then, just like that, like literally hours after leaving her office, I took a huge step back. I started experiencing generalized nausea that makes drinking difficult and eating near impossible (I've only had a few crackers with cottage cheese over the last week.) At first I thought I had tried a food or supplement that didn't agree with me, but symptoms still haven't improved since cutting everything out. I'm not so bad that I'm in pain, or throwing up, but EVERYTHING makes me gag. Just thinking about food can make me gag. I called in a script for anti-nausea meds, which has helped me stop gagging all the time. But I'm still not eating. My stomach feels TIGHTER than it did 2 weeks ago, I can't drink as much. Nothing has improved.
I honestly just want to put some calories in my body so badly. I am so tired, weak and I can't hardly think straight. I'm trying not to freak out, but it's been a week and a half of NO improvement. I feel like I'm never going to get better.
I'm calling my doctor office Tuesday, but what can they even do to help? I feel 'kinda sick' and 'don't want to eat' so? I read stories on here of people that have it so much worse, and I'm so sorry if this seems petty or whiny. But I really am freaking out. Have any of you experienced anything like this? tell me it's going to get better! What can I do?

    So much this!

If you have to do a liquid pre-op diet you can try doing what I did. I knew it was going to be tough so I tried to prep myself as much as possible. When I was a month away I started doing a liquid lunch at work. Some times it was just chicken bullion cube in hot Water and a few saltine crackers. Even though it was difficult at first I knew that I would be getting food at dinner and taught me some tricks on fighting head hunger (and real hunger) during the day.

Not saying my method was the best or right for you, but it helped me. Don't beat yourself up for failings. It's like people that beat themselves up when trying to quit smoking. Yes it sucks when you break a streak of going without a smoke, but we need to give ourselves credit when we go from a pack a day to having a single smoke after a week. This is much more mental than we think. Don't give up!

Doctor seemed to think it’s eating too fast, too. I’m taking it VERY slowly now and choosing extra soft foods. Doctor called it a “learning curve.”

I think part of pre-op dieting is getting it in your head that food is NOT something that you need to turn to all the time. It hit me during my liquid only pre-op. I see people on here who cry at the thought of not eating like they previously had, but that’s kind of the point. I know I can eventually eat the things I love (I want tacos so fn bad right now) but I have to change my relationship with food first. Good luck! 😘

    Good evening all,
Today was my post-op and so my Dr. Cleared me for soft foods....what a relief. It was slow going not to mention getting pretty scary there with all these food commercials and playing Chef for my son. I am down 20lbs (this includes the pre-op) at my highest weight I was 296. I am feeling better today. I still get nauseated, I am 4 days from the right amount of Protein intake. It makes me Quest, hopefully I can get creative with soft veggies. The Dr. said no real exercise until 8 weeks out, but to walk to my hearts content.

Trust me there is a reason for that. I tried soft foods before it was due to, and omg! The awful feeling! Last night I was Sooooooo angry and so discouraged! I kept asking my husband- WHY DIDN'T I JUST STAYED FATTTT! I was happy and somewhat healthy! Then I came to, and realized something about me...I have been a spoiled brat that ate anything I wanted to and smoked and have never had to give this two things up. I never been a consistent or discipline myself. This is the first time EVER, I had to strictly follow rules or pay a price. I actually had to divorce food and cigarettes. Like I have to read the back of food to realize how awful they are for my family and I. It's so hard to just leap in this life changing surgery. I have to be patient with myself and take one day a the time. Took me 48 years to and now I did it and thankful that I can't change that. If I decide to cheat I will pay with vomiting, heartburn, pain and bloated.

I agree with you. It can seem discouraging at times. I was feeling like the both of you. Even most of us...the Dr. Released me but, I still will take my time. I am still doing my liquids because I know I can do that safely. You don't want to injure yourself for the sake of self gratification which is how we got here in the first place.
Try not to be so hard on yourself, who knows when you get to the soft food it will probably not be all that you think it is. I was only able to have 3 teaspoons before my stomach got angry with me. (It kind of wasn't worth it)
My Dr. also told me he wanted to see what my stats were before moving me on to the next thing so maybe they want to ensure your body can handle the next phase. Cheer up you will be alright.
