Hi Nicole, lovely name by the way(Nicole is my middle name lol)welcome! I promise you this is the best place to be. There’s a lot of support, honesty, and trust on BP...one thing that we discuss at group meetings and that I’ve heard so many people that are post op say is that their experience wasn’t anything like anyone else’s.....we’re all different, our bodies are different, our tolerances are different, and our mindsets are different, so don’t let other people’s “negative” experiences deter you from making this life change. Come into this with a positive mindset, stay focused on your goal weight and all of the good that’s going to come out this for you...associate the word “forever” with positivity. You’re going to have your weight under control “forever”.....if you have a food addiction(like me and many of us here) you’ll be done with that addiction “forever”...it’s all about the mindset. I’m definitely here for you for questions, support, etc.!

Hi! I’m Nicole. I have my consult tomorrow and would love a buddy to ask questions to and help rid me of some anxiety. The whole “forever” part of this surgery is really freaking me out and I’ve read all kinds of wierd reviews. I hope the benefits outweigh the struggles

For everyone that inquired about me saying that my cardiac clearance is only good for one month while everyone else has been told it’s good for a year, the thing that I didn’t mention that I’m sure they are probably taking into consideration when telling me it’s only good for a month is the fact that I previously had congestive heart failure...so it could be that clearance lasts longer for a person who has never had heart problems.

Hi.! And welcome! It has to be amazing to be going through this journey with one of the closest people too you. This is a great app, people here are so supportive, and it’s just great to know that we aren’t alone in this. We will definitely be going in around the same time! I’m really hoping for late April because my appointments fall on the 2nd of each month, but only time will tell. I have my psych appointment and my 4th of the 6 required appts. with my PCP next week...then I’ll be done until it’s time to get cardiac clearance in April..hopefully I’ll be able to have my things submitted for approval no later than April 6th...definitely want to be buddies

Hi Jaz, I’m also a newbie (first post actually) and just like you, I started my journey in November and also need the 6 months supervised weight log for my approval. I’m actually on this journey with my best friend, we have all our appointments together and if everything goes as planned, we will be having our surgery the same day some time in April! We just had our Nutritionist and Phycologist appointments this past week and they went great! Good luck and we can definitely buddy up.

Hi there, I am new as well, just joined today. Seeing my surgeon today to discuss a date for surgery. Looks like we should be getting it around the same timeframe this spring. I am going to try to do the three month fast track program. I'm so scared. I have really bad anxiety so they are going to have to knock me out before going into surgery. I'm praying you do great and this surgery brings you everything you hope for!

I had a really easy surgery. Everything went much better expected...with the exception of one little hiccup:)
I had just gotten to my room, was talking to my husband, feeling really good.....when this extremely worried looking hospital administrator came in and asked me if I was feeling up to talking for a minute.
    I felt great...so I was like...Of course..
And she asks me..."Are you in the process of having your surgery financed?"
    And I go...."Uh, no. I have insurance."
And she goes...."I was just on the phone with your insurance company and apparently there's been some mistake. Your rider doesn't cover bariatric surgery."
I can't overemphasize how grim this woman looks. She knows she's giving me horrible news, and it's her job to protect the hospital financially....she looks like she feels terrible for me.
She's trying to be really gentle and says "We could do an 18 month financing plan. We don't usually do this and we're really not sure how this happened. Usually financing is in place."
And I go..."Um, can I show you something?"
I had my husband get my folder of stuff that I had sense enough to bring to the hospital with me. In it...was a copy of my approval letter from my insurance company.
So I give her the copy of the letter....and she looks baffled.
    I go..."Will that help you?"
And she goes..."It just might. Please give me ten minutes. I'll be right back."
She comes back in ten minutes...all smiles. "I'm so sorry. You have the same name and birth date as another patient in the system and we were trying to bill the wrong person. You're all set. I really appreciate you bringing this letter with you, it helped immensely. I'm really sorry about worrying you when you're already stressed."
And I'm like..."I feel so shockingly good, I'm just grateful the surgical team is top notch. No one's perfect. If mistakes are gonna happen, I'd rather they happen in billing, you know?"
She smiled, apologized again, and excused herself.
Later that day I got flowers from the hospital with a note from her thanking me for being understanding about the mix up.
Moral of the story: Bring a copy of your approval letter to the hospital with you.
Other Moral of the story: Give your kid a somewhat unique name. Mine is as generic as John Smith... and this has caused me issues a couple of times.

Whwn did you decide to get a New license or ID and passport or work badges? I'm just wondering what is normal time frame since your generally still losing some weight? Oh and wedding ring I wear a 6 1/2 but am worried it will go down. How many sizes did your ring need to go down. And just one more because I have insomnia. How many sizes did you shoes change?

Absolutely do what you feel is the best option for you,in the beginning I felt bypass was the ONLY option for me as far as I was concerned..then I talked with my surgeon, and he told me that I could absolutely have bypass if that was what I wanted but that based off my age and BMI that he felt sleeve was a better option, he gave me time to research it, and after I researched it i felt it was the best option for me too,so that’s what I went with.

So far so good...just slow moving.lol. Well actually January is going by faster than I expected..I had my sleep study last night, they told me I’d have to wait 2 weeks for the results, but it was a SPLIT study, so if I had sleep apnea severe enough they would have had me use the CPAP last night, but they didn’t, the way she was talking though I believe I may still have sleep apnea, just not severe enough to need the machine. Psych eval is on the 30th..then I’ll be done except for my last 3 appts of the 6 and cardiac clearance.

I am pretty much done with all my appts and classes. I have my Endoscopy to do next week and my surgery is scheduled for 3/13. I feel like my date is so far away. I just want to get it over with. I'm told by my hospital that they don't even have the authorization yet from my insurance company which is Fidellis. Im nervous because my BMI is right at the limit but I have severe sleep apnea.

How is everyone's journey going? My weight is still up and down. Struggling with hunger. I'm trying to be good, but it feels like I'm hungry all the time. Choosing healthy food curbs the hunger for maybe an hour. Then I find myself still searching for the food that makes me satiated. But I'm working on it.

Yay! Awesome! Congratulations on starting your journey as well. Yes my insurance also requires a UGI(done), blood work(done), a psych eval.(scheduled for Jan. 30), a sleep study(scheduled for Jan. 18), a surgery education class(done), meeting with a dietitian(scheduled for Jan.8)and a support group meeting, which I’m going to next week too. It’s a process, but I’m getting through it.lol.

I just had my consult last friday (1/12/18) and will be having my first class tomorrow. Im required to do 3 months of supervised diet, a Psych visit, a NUT visit and the surgery consult. During the 3 months i have to complete 4 classes a month. Once that is done they will submit for pre-approval and then a 1 month surgery pre-op diet and 2 weeks before surgery i get a scoping procedure done.
Im still undecided if i am going for sleeve or bypass yet, i will see as i go through my classes and have my appointments.

That’s awesome, nothing like a good look in the mirror to help us change ourselves..I’ve started to realize some things about myself too, that’s why I’m having this surgery..keep your head up girl.! It takes so much strength to acknowledge that you have a problem, but it takes even more strength to fix it. You’re going to come out of this an absolutely incredible woman!

Definitely had a ton of questions. And they were self reflecting which really made me feel worse about myself. I stress eat and never really thought about it. I have been more thoughtful of what I am eating and why. So in the long run, I'm greatful that I saw the psychiatrist. I am still depressed, but it has changed my mindset.
