  1. I started my weight loss journey in Sept 2008. Had absolutely NO complications or problems and lost over half my weight in 3-4 months. I weighed 247 on the day of my surgery and quickly plummeted to a sexy 125!! Felt amazing and looked it too! However, 5 years later I had picked up a brand new habit!! I started going out...like to bars...which I had never done in my life ( I was married w/ kids so this wasn't acceptable) anyway, Now, I was divorced and had alot of free time on the weekends. Had a wonderful job, gaining new friends, hobbies etc. However, I also started drinking. Would never have more than 3-4 Captain and Cokes but my god they were delicious to me!! I had never drank before nor did I drink much soda. I quickly found myself drinking on the weekends while out with friends. Long story short, 2 years later I got a DUI !!! The first and ONLY person in my family that drank much less, get arrested. This killed my spirits, and I felt I had let my family down so I swore off alcohol. Fast forward 2 years...no job, new relationship that required a move 3 hrs away from everything I had ever known, only to find he was an alcoholic who was also physically abusive when drunk (strangled me on numerous occasions)...I started drinking again (along with him and only at home) just to get my mind off the fact that I was so far away from my family and other miseries. I am now on my own, doing very well, great job, my own place but have now started drinking wine (a whole bottle of Pink Moscato) a few nights a week. This didn't really start until this past April when I had a full hysterectomy....Thankfully, I have never had a hangover, never get sick and am actually really productive around the house..(which isn't a bad thing) I guess my question is, I have gained about 13 lbs since this time last year ( my job is sitting for 12 hrs 4 days a week) when I am home ( I live alone) I am just sedentary and don't really have any energy to do much of anything ( severely anemic and get Iron infusions every week ) so do you think it is the Wine that is causing the weight gain, the Full hysterectomy, the desk job or just a combination.??? I would really like to stop any further weight gain and any answers would be appreciated.
  2. Can someone please tell me how I am suppose to be calculating my carbs? I know all the basics, use the MyFitnessPal app to track my calories, nutrients, etc and I am sticking to the Normal recommendation of but how can I already have 15g of Carbs from one healthy salad and dressing only containing the ingredients of what I'm suppose to have??? 25g of Total Net Carbs--- Fat: 96g ---- Protein:72g So, Here is what my tracker has for the only meal I had yesterday and it just doesn't seem accurate to me. Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
  3. OK guys!!!! I started Keto 2 weeks ago and would love to have a forum of just Fellow Ketoers!! We can trade recipes, stories, question, concerns etc. Keto stuff is all over the internet...but nothing about doing it after WLS. I use My Fitness Pal to track all food/drink, calories, carbs, fats. I currently stay until 12g carbs per day, 60g Proteinand 27g fat. I use Ketostix every morning to make sure I stay in Ketosis ( usually a 4) but I don't feel I'm losing quick enough. What is your experience so far with Keto and your daily intake of foods? It's just so hard for me to get in enough calories and protein.
  4. I have never even heard of this. I have always sipped with my meals, simply because it keeps my food from getting stuck! I have never had an issue with it.

    No weight loss?

Protein can make you gain weight in the form of muscle. I only consumed 15-20 grams per day after my surgery. I simply could not eat as much as they required. Still can't and it worked wonders for me. I'm glad i listened to my body and not the doctors on this one!
  6. Oh WOW! I can't believe you even wanted to try meat. I didn't attempt any type of meat for almost a year as it still to this day (8 years later) does that exact same thing to me. I know this pain all too well and still experience it if I try to eat more than a bite or 2 of meat. I was on Protein as well for the 1st year, but mainly in the form of shakes or puree. The pain is just not worth it to even attempt to eat it anymore. I'm sorry you went through this and I would love to tell you that it's over, but more than likely, you will have this throughout your life with "hard to digest" foods. Mostly meats and heavy carbs. I don't touch bread, pasta or anything like that because when it becomes "stuck" I feel like I'm gonna die.
  7. Me neither but you may wanna research that sugars feed cancer way more that Protein.
  8. Trust me, I'm not looking for the Dietary police! But I hardly get any protein in because of my surgery. I do however choose to cut out carbs and stick to healthy amounts of protein and fat.

    On cloud nine.."bread"

So is this "bread" baked or eaten raw? Don't see anywhere in the instructions listed to bake it.
  11. I am 8 years Post-Op and I get extremely tired anytime I eat protein. I have never done the shakes because none of them agreed with me. I simply don't know what causes this and I have just gotten used to it at this point. I get my protein from veggies now as I have never been able to handle any type of meat without it getting stuck and causing extreme pain. It is just now worth the pain. I have had every scan and test to see if there was a blockage but nothing shows up. Baffling...
  12. OMG! 120g of Carbs per day??? Are you sure?? How would that even be possible?
  13. Do not let what you cannot do, interfere with what you can do!

    Before and After pic

No, I don't have any loose skin, thank goodness. I did not have any type of corrective surgery after my bypass. Just ate like I was suppose to and tried to stay active. My BS said that it all depends on how long your skin had been stretched out while being fat before surgery and your age. I was 36 when i had my surgery and had been overweight for roughly 8 years but I never had a belly or folds. Carried my weight in my boobs and my hips.
  15. I know I saw a thread that mentioned Keto somewhere but I would like to start a new one. I just found this amazing Keto food list and was wondering if anyone has had any success with this new lifestyle change after RNY. Please give me your experiences. Keto Food list

  18. "Normal" when naked?? What constitutes "normal" nowadays?? Many naysayers still give us WLS people a hard time saying we took the "easy way out". We all know it is anything but easy. With hard work, dedication and a positive mindset, these ladies will acheive what they set out to do. I have faith in them.

    Stinky Breath?

This is a symptom of Ketosis!! It's a great thing!! It means your body is rapidly burning fat!! Google Ketosis

    When your RNY stops working...

Good Lord!! I couldn't even imagine wanting to even try to eat any type of candy. The feeling and pain (dumping) you get from it IS NOT WORTH IT!!!! It took me over a year to even introduce meat!! and i have never reintroduced candies or sweets!!! Geeze!!
  21. Dear ladies, I am 8 years post op and I hate to tell you that while Yes, eating may not be enjoyable now but you know what will be??? That day when you look in the mirror at your new, thin, sexy body and realize that the "comfort/satisfaction you once felt from food, is what ultimately made you fat in the first place. Remember that old saying, "Nothing tastes as good as being thin.."?? Well, you just wait my pretty ladies...you soon will enjoy that feeling and forget that miserable obession with how food USED to make you feel. I learned very early after my surgery that I would never be able to enjoy or indulge in foods the way I used too, so I had to change the way they were intertwined in my new life. I became a Chef!!! I could still get all the tactile satisfaction from shopping for it, prepping it, cooking it etc...but I knew that I would never be able to eat in the amounts I once could. I just had to alter my relationship with food. It's still in my life, always will be but in a more positive, healthy and satisfying manner. Right now and probably for the first year or two....your brain is still rewiring to why it isn't getting it's fix the way it used to but...it will pass. I promise and you'll love the feeling that your new body gives you. It's truly a rebirth! Trust in the process.

    Air fryer!!!

Dash makes a very nice, small 1-2 person air fryer. You can find it on Amazon or even HSN. I went with the Cook Essentials 3.4 qt and love it very much. I love air frying my Kale chips, sweet potato chips, souffles, wings and even my bacon. Plus, it doesn't use nearly as much energy as stove or oven, so it is more efficient on the ol' electric bill per month!
  24. The only thing that has ever caused me to "dump" was sugar in the form of candy, cakes, ice cream and crap. Things I rarely ate even before surgery. What is your definition of "dumping"?? Could it be youre not getting the "stuck/pain" feeling after consuming a larger amount, say a pork chop or steak?
