I had to lose 30 before surgery. I did 2 Protein Shakes a day and a 600 calorie meal along with contraive. It came off so fast and easy almost considered not doing surgery. Good luck!

Thought I'd post an update for anyone still interested in this thread:
I'm a about 5 weeks out and down 11 lbs, which when I step back, isn't bad at all.
On the other hand, it *feels* like the last 5 weeks have been more like 5 months. I've had number of really low moments, sitting on the toilet at 3am cramped up and pooping my brains out with a blown out o-ring, and thinking "Holy sh*t! What have I done? This will be for the rest of my life?" ...and that was after being banished to sleeping on the couch by my wife because I was carpet gassing the entire bedroom with deadly nerve toxin. I was really starting to think I had made the worst mistake of my life.... and it was irreversible.
I had no idea this part of it would be so bad. "My" nutritionist was a group class that focused almost exclusively on VSG patients. She must have forgotten to mention the gas or the cramps or the bloating or the hemorrhoids or the explosive diarrhea...
Luckily, I started paying more attention to posts on this forum, and the last week or so feel like I'm starting to get a handle on things. What seems to be working for me:
Staying the hell away from Gluten. Man-o-man what a difference. I love love love bread and pizza and Pasta and ramen and steamed dumplings, but the reaction is so hard and so gross and so painful that I'm starting to be repelled by the very thought of those foods (which is probably a good thing for my weight loss goals anyway.) Surprisingly, I seem to be ok with other carbs, including corn chips and potatoes. I binged an entire bag of Cheetos the other night with no ill effects. Staying away from lactose. This one is a still a little speculation at this point, because I've been scared to really put it to an acid test, but based on the night I had a single piece of cheese pizza, i'm in no hurry to find out. "Metamucil" mixed in Water. I hate choking this stuff down, but it does seem to help smooth things out. "Prisolec" Greek Yogurt. Never been a huge fan, but I'm finding those little containers to be a great "cravings buster" right around 3:00. Or I'll eat one a half hour or so before dinner, and it helps prevent me from going full Ham at the table Things that don't seem to work for me:
Gas-ex. I went through half a bottle in a the course of a week, and it didn't do jack. pro-biotics (may be helping a little, but no magic bullet) Fiber pills ("Fiber Choice" brand) Hope my experience helps others. If anyone has any additional tips or suggestions, send me a shout.

Suwade reacted to disco stu in VSG redo and SIPS? Anyone had this?
CORRECTION: popcorn is moving to the naughty list. Last night I ate a whole bag, and didn't get bloated or crazy gassy, but the few toots that made it out could have choked a elephant. A whole herd. Not. Of. This. Earth.

I had SIPS 12/17 and I’m very pleased. If you stay on track, you feel great. Carbs makes me bloated and gassy. You figure out what you can and can’t eat. Just went on vacation and ate off my hubbys and kids plates most of the time. Had a mai tai as well...
I take 2 chewable Multi Vitamins and one Calcium. I usually have a Premier Protein shake for B or L plus a yogurt. I’m having a hard time with raw veggies now so I stick to cooked. For dinner I have what the family is eating but focus on Protein first. Biggest change is my eyes are sometimes bigger than my stomach and I’ve over eaten and just don’t feel well afterwards. Other times I’ve eaten a cheeseburger...
    Hope this helps

Question; can I document an entire six months as it happens? The only way I can tell the journey is as it happens.
How I got here; Hi! My name is Johnnie, and I am morbidly obese, and I am also a food addict. 27-years ago, I was a dope smokin, cigarette puffin. soon to be alcoholic. This is when god sent me one of his purist angels, we will call her Elizabeth. This angel accepted me for who I was, but loved me for who I am. When my destructive lifestyle began to corrupt her, she gave me an ultimatum; lose the pot, or lose me... I cannot have both. 27-years ago I quit the destructive habit of smoking dope. Elizabeth and I were also married.
Retaining the other two bad habits of smoking and drinking, I had also started to pack on the pounds. My married weight some 27-years ago fluctuated between 195 to 200 lbs. Over thsee years I tried the Atkins diet, which worked initially, but not before the steadily gaining back the weight. Fast forward to 2002, my weight blew up to 260 pounds. This was also the time my doctor started me on my first of many high blood pressure meds. At this time I also wanted to quit smoking, so my doctor prescribed Welbutrin, and within a month I became a non smoker. This about the time that my drinking got worse, and my weight started to soar again. A brief try at Atkins again proved futile, as my metabolism was not as young as it used to be.
At 300 +/- pounds in 2008, I quit drinking and started dieting again; this time it was the 1600 calorie diet with a daily dose of Phentermine. I managed a measly 50lb loss, before reversing direction. I tried Phentermine a couple more times, and even tossed in the 1200 calorie diet. Nevertheless, my weight was now getting out of hand. I have been plagued with plantar faciitus, sore knees, accompanied by a (un-)healthy dose of low self esteem, it became clear, I need help.
2017 arrived, and I decided to change occupations. In April I started a new career as a professional truck driver. I do not need to describe a truckers lifestyle, accept to say, 2017 was not my best year for decision making. July I came off the truck with a kidney stone. It took 2-attempts to get the stone out, but that little bugger came out. Three days after the last kidney stone procedure, was rushed to the emergency room and diagnosed with multiple pulmonary emboli (blood clots). It was deduced that I got deep vein thrombosis from the truck driver life style, producing the clots that nested in my lungs. Weight in July and August was 298.
I should note here, that through all of the years I also suffered from acid reflux, which I treated with baking soda and Water. But the acid reflux became severe about 5-years ago, before I managed to get a grip on it. I have been reflux free for the last 4-years. This was about the time I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and put on the CPAP machine.
If you skipped ahead in this story, just know that I suffer like so many here, with many of the issues surrounding those two nasty words; Morbid Obesity.
Elizabeth, has never left my side, she has been my rock, my angel, my best friend for life, even now more than ever! With my background story out of the way, I can begin my journey now...

You basically had a 2 step SADi. The VSG was step 1, and the intestinal bypass was step 2.
I had the single loop (SADi DS) done in Nov 2014 and lost about 150 lbs in 10 months. The VSG takes the weight off, and the bypass keeps it off. It's lower risk and requires fewer Vitamins than a standard DS procedure. I'm not sure about any standard weight loss numbers. I lost 100% of my excess fat and it's still off in year 4.

I was so tired of sweet. shakes sweet, popsicles sweet, etc. so tried grits, and tolerated well. Hope I’m not screwing up anything, but what a relief. Since the surgery, broth became a top 5 aversion! Also using a straw without issue. Eleven pounds down.

Suwade reacted to GotProlactinoma in I discovered a way to feel more full.
Maybe this might help someone else. I’m 7 months out from being sleeved. I enjoy a healthy carb snack at the end of my day. Mine is a homemade granola made of seeds and oats. Eaten with full milk. Well, some days as I calculate what I ate that day, I do see I am lower than I want to be on my Protein. So a few times the past few days, I’ve added a scoop of plain grass fed nonflavor no sweetener whey Protein Powder to my granola (which I always measure in the same little cup thingy). Half a portion of protein powder, so really about 11 g.
Guess what? The same exact snack I have almost every night and finish it no trouble, I CANNOT FINISH because I get that terrible fullness about half way through because I added protein powder to it. And I eat less of it. So I might not get to add the whole amount of protein to my day’s nutrients, BUT I GET THAT RESTRICTION. This might help others who sometimes worry they aren’t getting enough restriction. Try it. Add some plain protein powder to something liquid or mushy at the end of your day, or to your tv snack. Hope it helps someone else.
