  1. My daughter's a biologist. I know if she has kids her vacations are going to be adventure vacations....camping, canoeing, hiking in mountains, etc. I want to be able to keep up and participate. I want to do waterslides and trampoline parks with my (hopefully) grandkids some day. I want to be able to wear a swimsuit all day on the river and not feel exposed and huge. I want to jump horses again, and dogsled again, and work dogs with a kick bike in the woods. I want to go sledding and water skiing again. I want to go see South American Mayan ruins and be able to hike to the tops of temples. I want to go rafting in the grand canyon. I told my doctor all of this....and he just shook his head and grinned....said he was thinking of all my upcoming broken bones. LOL I want to be able to wear a standard wetsuit size and learn to SCUBA dive. I want to live! Very tired of sitting on the sidelines:)
  2. Have never heard of fruit on the pre-surg diet. Eating fructose would be counter-indicated since it wouldn't shrink your liver. That is a VERY strange choice by your surgeon. Weird. June, I do wish you the very best. Glad you're feeling better.

    Post-surgical issues

Your other issues aside.....I would love to lose 25 pounds in 7 weeks! That's almost 13 pounds a month. That's a HUGE loss. I would be enthusiastically satisfied with that kinda progress. Everyone talks about stalls being a very normal thing.
  4. Poor thing! Sorry about your experience, it sounds dreadful. Hope things improve rapidly. Maybe you'll feel a little better about everything when you feel more like yourself. Hugs.
  5. I don't envy you. I had "cotton mind" during my liquid diet...felt like I was thinking through a haze. Hated how I felt. What a bugger to have to do exams during it. Don't have anything helpful, just wanted to say I feel for you, and wish you the best.
  6. Ok, yeah...but if we're talking a systemic anticoagulation issue......with unstoppable internal oozing...why on earth would opening her up again be life saving? Wouldn't an exploratory imperil her more under that circumstance? She states that the surgical site was not the source of the bleeding???? This one just has me scratching my head.
  7. You have nine days to get well:) Baby yourself. Cool mist humidifier at night. Nice hot baths. Good nutrition. Take your vitamins until you are supposed to stop. You could ask your doc for a B vitamin shot, or any other recommendations to help you feel better quicker. Try to relax and not let holiday prep be overwhelming. Enlist help and don't sweat the small stuff. Take extra special good care of yourself...and you'll do just fine:)
  8. My nutritionist has an entire alternate plan for vegetarian sleevers. Balanced and complete. I'm not a vegetarian, but she is, and she was thrilled that I wanted a copy of that strategy, too. I go a little from each list...I like balance:) Can't wait to have my chia pudding back. Just saw a cool recipe for chia seed pumpkin oats packed with protein. Looks like an awesome breakfast and I can't wait to try it.
  9. Love this guide. Planning to replace as much animal Protein as possible with plant protein. Have been studying the diets of people with the longest lifespans in the world. Lot of healthy fats, low animal protein, lots of complex carbs and plant protein. Low cancer and heart disease rates. If you're looking for some new and exciting protein options...check this list out...has recipes, too:) https://theecoguide.org/vegetarian-proteins?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjMm5i6yR2AIVXbbACh3zhwDbEAAYAiAAEgLMSfD_BwE
  10. By the way, 3 cups of air popped pop corn has three grams of protein for only 30 calories. That's damned good. I doubt I'm gonna be eating 3 cups of popcorn anytime soon....but this list wasn't exactly made for sleevers. For general nutrition, it's an awesome snack.
  11. yes, it's from a vegetarian site, but that's hardly the point. The point was that lots of awesome plant based proteins exist that might provide a little variety and culinary splendor to an otherwise repetitive animal based palate. Meh, to each their own. Personally, I'm attracted to the longevity and health benefits associated with Mediterranean diet and other low animal protein, low animal fat diets. Not for everyone for sure...but plant based protein sources make a nice culinary change even for meat eaters. I'm pretty omnivorous. I like a little lean meat in my diet, too. Want to put your chia seeds and flax on a nice steak? Add some nuts and pumpkin seeds to your chicken salad? You have my blessing. LOL:)

    Sleeve surgery last friday

Man, I hope they finish soon, that's a LONG surgery! LOL...just kidding:) Advice....keep walking, keep sipping! Hydration is key, and the walking helps metabolize the anesthetic away and promotes healing. Best wishes for an effective, healthy outcome!
  13. I can't eat most things yet. I'm eating off the approved list, and a little bit into the next list (pureed/soft)....taking everything slowly, only eating what's comfortable. Doing my 70 minute rule. Am enjoying: Mashed potatoes oatmeal cream of wheat baby meat sticks yogurt bean/pea Soup canned chicken sweet potato cottage cheese canned green Beans fresh greens in my nutrabullet....set to liquefy with a little apple or prune juice for regularity avacado Tofu Premier Protien...One caramel shake a day used as creamer in my decaf coffee I'm walking about 6-7 miles a day, have incredible energy, am sleeping 7-8 hours a night, and am off most of my meds. I'm eating 1000 calories a day, and getting at least 80g of protien. Sipping drinks nonstop. Weight improves daily. Am pooping daily. I read so many stories on this site about people who have problems....thought I'd add my positive experience to the stew. No nausea. no pain. Feeling like a million bucks. Healing up great. Enjoying my diet, and looking forward to being able to tolerate more Proteins and veggies. Am dying for a salad...but know that's weeks away. Some lessons I've learned: If foods feel uncomfortable or gets stuck for a minute....you're not ready for them. Put them away for another week or two and try again cautiously. If you feel uncomfortably full......get up and walk...it helps shake things loose. Anything new....try a tiny little amount and WAIT 15 minutes. See how it feels. Listen to your body cues. Eating super sugary food makes me sick. Sugary things are good for a bite...not a bowl, even a small bowl. Mom's Christmas cookie was NOT a good idea. A nibble would have been ok. Eating half a cookie...not so much. I was dumb and rationalized I was eating oatmeal, and the cookie was oatmeal....can't hurt, right? Wrong! Be very carful with heavily refined sugar products. The cookie triggered some nausea and I felt really crappy for a bit. It passed in 20 minutes, but I'd rather not repeat that. I love oatmeal and cream of wheat with almond milk and splenda. Greek yogurt is 12g of Protein a tub...try the whipped, it's awesome. You can get instant oatmeal with extra protein. Canned chicken isn't as awful as I feared. Particularly in homemade Soups with beans. Decaf coffee doesn't taste like coffee....but it's not bad. I think of it as something similar to coffee...but not quite coffee. LOL This isn't meant to be advice to anyone else....this is simply what's been working for me. I just wanted people to know that not everyone has a rough hellish experience. For some of us...the surgery is very easy on us and the changes are very tolerable:) Best wishes to each and everyone....on a safe healthy good outcome:)
  14. 1200 is the goal. I'm working up to it. Less than 1200 puts most people into a starvation metabolic mode that actually impedes weight loss long term. If I'm gonna reset my metabolism...I want it to set to an active calorie burning furnace, not a sluggish starvation mode. That's how the nutritionist explained it to me.

2nd day post op and I can’t sleep

Tons of pillows and a hot water bottle helped me. Sleeping got a LOT better around day four.

    2days post op

I had three days of clear fluids, then several days of clear fluids one hour, Protein shake the next. At about a week, I added yogurt, oatmeal, cream of wheat, sugar free pudding, and cream soup. At about a week and a half, I added potatoes, a little very soft meat, a little tofu, beans. I went a little faster than most...but I've suffered zero nausea, and my activity is through the roof. I approached each food very cautiously and my body was ready. Everyone is different. The swelling inside your stomach will improve differently for each person. Take it easy, take it slow....you'll get there!
  17. Best wishes for safe, healthy, excellent results:)
  18. I'm so confused by this. What sort of bleeding disorder are you talking about? Does it have a name? Because the vast majority of bleeding disorders would be caught on presurgical labs. So...you weren't bleeding from your surgical sites...but you lost 8 units of blood? Huh? Where was the blood coming from? Not saying I don't believe you could have had a one in a bazillion anomalous case....God knows they do happen...but so much about this story seems really weird. Can you give some more concrete specifics? 1. Where, exactly, were you bleeding 8 units of blood from? 2. What is the name of your disorder? 3. Why were you "burning up"? Were you having an allergic reaction? Because hypovolemic shock causes cool, clammy skin. June, I recall that in the middle of October, you stated your insurance company wanted 3 more months of medical weight loss. Did they change their minds? Did you switch to self pay? How did your presurgical diet go? What sort of testing did the surgeon require before the surgery? Wishing you good health and safety.
  19. Beautiful! You're rockin it, lady! I'm so proud of you!
  20. 70 minute rule: Don't drink fluids for 10 minutes before eating. Try to eat very slowly. Tiny bites. A meal should last 30 minutes....even if you're just getting in 3-4 ounces. Don't drink for 30 minutes after you eat. This is the standard advice of my nutritionist for sleeve patients. Keeps the food in the sleeve to aid digestion. Fluid can push food too fast and it gets uncomfortable. Best to do food or fluid...not both. This has been really tough for me....cause i've always sipped fluids through meals. But I've gotta say it's way more comfortable if I follow the rule, and I feel more satisfied. Who knew?

    Post-Op medications to avoid?

    1. I'd ask your surgeon. 2. The real risk with a diuretic would be dehydration. That would be the biggest concern. Doc might want to try a smaller dose? 3. It's only been a couple of months. Personally....I'd put up with the retained water for a couple more months and see if it improves as your body adapts to your new circumstances. 4. But again....ASK YOUR DOCTOR. It's important.

    1 week post op??

Oatmeal or cream of wheat thinned with almond milk. Yogurt. Try a little refried beans and see how you tolerate them. I'm getting along with beans great...will be two weeks post op on Tuesday.
  23. I've had no problem with dry mouth since the first day after surgery. Be careful of maintaining good hydration.
  24. I have seven, but had my hiatal hernia fixed, too. Might be the difference?
