Pickle juice 3 days post op?

I guess you will know soon enough if your stomach will reject it, but it may be best to chat with your dietician in case they would prefer you not to consume it. I can see that the product called pickle juice doesn't have sugar, but some of the homemade recipes look like they could have plenty of sugar. Here is another thread which may be helpful to you If you put the word pickle in the top left hand search field you will find lots of other threads regarding pickle juice which also may be useful to look at
  2. My surgeon and the support program wanted me to weigh every day...I was provided a wifi scales for which weight would load (by bluetooth) to an app that their office has access to. I don't weigh officially everyday and only weigh on the wifi scales once a week. I weigh on my own everyday, I don't let myself become upset with the daily ups and downs, its a fact that even when we are losing weight there will be days when the scales are up due to many things such as hormones, dehydration/rehydration, fluid retention, inflammation, constipation etc. As long as the weekly trend is downwards or even the same (there are stalls sometimes) its all good as far as I am concerned. I always weigh myself on waking up after going to the toilet.

Pickle juice 3 days post op?

Wouldn't it have too much vinegar for three days post op? Acidity may be too much for the newly healing stomach?

    Yuck

I had bought as a trial the vitamin patches before I had surgery, had already used about a weeks worth, so I used them until I finished the pack. Because the ESG is less restrictive that the surgical options I am now fine with standard multivitamin tablets, I also supplement with a calcium tablet that has vit d and k, plus vit d by itself as I have osteopenia and low vit d levels (which I have had for a while)

    EGS to Gastric sleeve

Hope it all goes well for you Mel. Is your preference for a revision to sleeve?

    Yuck

I know what you mean, I bought three packs of them, had one and went out and bought something else! I did wonder though if I continued for a a week or so, whether they wouldn't be so bad. So if anybody in Australia wants three packs of BN chewable vitamins and happy to pay for the postage they are yours!

    Preop diet coming soon

Being nervous about success is natural, I mean how many times have we tried to lose weight and failed, thing to bear in mind for the pre-op diet if you have a slip up its not the end of the world, don't let it become an excuse to go off the rails. Get back on track immediately. You will get through, I have no doubt you are much stronger than you give yourself credit for. You will be surprsed how quickly the time will pass. One thing to bear in mind is that the first few days will likely be the worse, make sure you get plenty of water, eat as much vegies and broth as your plan will allow.

    1st Consultation tomorrow

Hi and welcome! I would suggest for those on only focus on the negative, that you explain once and once only the benefits and positives, after that you tell them that it isn't up for discussion anymore.

    Not losing weight!!!

You will find you are not alone, it you put the word stall, stalled or stalling in the search link in the top left hand search link, you will find a lot of people stall at the three week stage plus other stages/phases, typically this is because they are progressing the food stages then its just the body taking time out to adjust. Some people also experience some daily or weekly gains, again this is normal...but as long as the long term trend is weight down it is what it is.
  12. Hi I am not in a position to provide any advice or tips, but hopefully someone will chime in soon. There is also the WLS veterans subforum here where you may get some specific information, it does say 18month plus, but if I recall correctly the vets forum was opened up and you should be able to post. https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1205-wls-veterans-forum/

Any of you develop extreme eye dryness??

Are you able to take capsules yet or consume small amounts of oil? Fish oil and flaxseed oil are good for dry eyes. Small amount of flaxseed oil can be added to protein shakes, yoghurts etc. Eye drops that are preservative free are better for your eyes than the those that have preservatives, and will do fine if you can't take capsules or flaxseed oil. If you end up with a dry mouth and nose too you may want to check with your doctor to check for health issues.

    Smoking?

I assume you mean emotional eating? Find other distractions....angry go do a boxing fit class, stressed or upset go for a walk, call a friend or have a soak in the bath, lonely or bored go visit a friend or family member, volunteer somewhere, take up knitting, etc etc

    Dating

I put myself back out there this evening, on a dating site that is, wasn't quite brave enough to put my photo on there and have kept it private so I can choose who I share it with. My most recent partner who I was with for almost ten years (went out separate ways about 20 months ago) I met online, so not a newcomer to online dating but do feel like it's all new again.
  17. I assume its three shakes plus the foods you have mentioned in your post? You could try make a fairly basic ricotta bake adapting to the egg and ricotta cheese amounts you are able to have. When I was on my pre-op diet which allowed only three shakes and low carb vegetables, a few times if I needed something different I would have cottage cheese or chicken in place of the shake but made sure it was to the same calorie count or protein amount as the shake. I would have the low carb veges with it. It wasn't the right thing to do, and I certainly don't want to encourage you to do it, but it did save my sanity and kept me on track for some of the time, unfortunately I wasn't the best pre-op person, thankfully I am much better at post op haha

    Weight Loss Meds???

No idea about the meds, but I would be finding out how much weight you are expected to lose over the next five months and workout if its doable by 'diet'. If you are expect to lose 10% of your body weight for instance, that's 23lbs (going by your current weight) = approx 5lb per month, which initally isn't too onerous...more you have to lose the more you likely lose initially but as time progresses (and there is no more fluid weight to lose) weight loss will slow down. To keep weight loss on track you can expect that they will want you to possibly do meal shake replacements and go fairly low carb.dea about the meds, but I would be finding out how much weight you are expected to lose over the next five months and workout if its doable by 'diet'. I am assuming you are pre-op as you don't have a date, but you have lost a good amount of weight already, and there have been a couple of instances here (or perhaps on the facegroup I am on) where people lost significant weight pre-op and their BMI reduced below the threshold and insurance was denied. I would definitley be finding out how much weight loss expectative over the next five months.

Dietician Stuff...help me not be a jerk...

Some dieticians can be quite stick by the book of what they were taught, others not so. Initially I guess its a case of one post op diet fits all, and then tweak as progress is made. I agree with Fluff be upfront, what your preferences are and why. There is scope with the macros that are provided to those who undertake bariatric procedures, and I think there is plenty of scope for increased healthy fat intake. Work out the percentages but do allow for the minimum of protein with the reduced calorie intake to make sure that lean body mass is maintained as much as possible while losing body fat.

If the antacid isn't working talk to your surgeon there is likely something else they can prescribe for you

    Day 5 post op

The noises are natural, you will get use to it. Did your surgen prescribe any stomach acid reducing meds for post op? This should help with any acid reflux or indigestion issues. For water, I typically have a big water bottle that I can around, I a generally sipping all day.

    Support and honesty needed

He is projecting his insecurities and fears, there are plenty of people who have had success with WLS. At the end of the day it's up to you, but weight loss isn't about an exercise schedule, where will you be this time next year and the year after that if you don't do surgery? If you haven't successfully lost and maintained in the past what will be different for you if you don't do the surgery? While your husband's support would be wonderful, it isn't necessary for you to be successful with WLS. In general, how is your marriage with regards to other things? You don't need to answer here, but do bear in mind, that relationship issues are often made worse when one of those in the relationship has WLS. If there are current issues may be worth having some relationship counselling as soon as possible.

    What to do when dumping?

i have a friend who was experiencing late dumping following bypass, from what I recall her dietician advised her she still eating too much carbs. She said she was a moderate carb eater and once she went lower/low carb the dumping improved. I have no experience as bypass is not my procedure but was interested in finding out more (upon reading this thread) so went looking as to what caused late dumping and what could help. Some sites said the same as my friend's dietician, one mentioned the vagus nerve. From the following website: https://bariatricsurgeryco.org/bariatric-surgery/bariatric-surgery-risks/dumping-syndrome/ Late stage dumping syndrome, which occurs 1 to 3 hours after eating, consists of hunger, fatigue, dizziness and lightheadedness, and feeling like your muscles are made of jelly. It is caused when sugar makes your body produce too much insulin, which drives your blood sugar down below normal levels. Again, the key to avoiding late dumping syndrome is to avoid sugar or high-glycemic-index foods and increase your dietary fiber content.
