I will tell you that I have severe sleep apnea and I use my cpap religiously! That was a HUGE concern of mine going into my surgery two days ago. The surgeon and the anesthesiologist were on board and assured me that they had me taken care of. When I woke up from surgery I felt great. No scratchy voice, easy to talk, no issues at all. Your concerns are valid, trust me. Just let your team know that it is one of your biggest fears. They will take care of you. I'm glad I did speak up. Good luck to you my friend.

If you think about it, they're so many obese people like me with obstructive sleep apnea that have surgery. They see it all the time. As long as you have a good surgical team that you are confident in, you'll do great. That put me at ease real quick. When I went to the surgery room and got on the surgery table, they propped my upper body up and that when I first fell asleep they could quickly intubate me and get the show on the road. Looking back to two days ago, I had absolutely NOTHING to worry about because I trusted my team and expressed ALL of my fears and concerns. You'll do great. Be confident with the team you chose to perform life changing surgery on you. Good luck. You got this.

There's a post somewhere on here with the expected monthly weight loss based on your starting weight.
My surgeon told me 25 lbs the first month and 8-10 each month after that- so you are right on track. I'm 6 months out and if I average my weight loss since the start I've averaged 2 pounds a week- the dr says that's awesome and I am totally happy with it too.
Try to balance your expectations. The weight didn't go on overnight and won't come off overnight.

Your doing a great job. The first month is usually when you have that big initial weight-loss but 9 pound a month is amazing. I'm a week from my 1 year anniversary and just got off a two month stall, I was averaging 3 pounds a month from 6-9 months, nothing for 10-11 months and I've lost a pound in the last 2 days so I'm back to losing again. This process does slowly become slow and steady and it can be frustrating but I just remind myself when did I ever lose 86 pounds in a year?

I'm 13 months out I've been stalled for about 30 days. When it was all said and done to get here, I lost on average 9lbs per month. Of course, it didn't come off that way, but that was the average over a year.

When I first stalled it was because I wasn't eating enough Protein. 2 ND time I stalled, it was because I wasn't drinking enough Water. As time goes on, it slows, the more you work out the better.

Nine pounds per month is great. I am only losing about five. You will see later on that your weight loss is going to slow down even quite a bit more than that. I eat less than 1,200 calories per day, work out 6-8X per week, and still only manage to drop a pound on average per week. I am definitely leaning up though, even though I'm not losing much weight. I am also pretty close to goal, so a slower weight loss it expected.
Don't be discouraged though. Even a five pound per month loss is still sixty pounds per year.

I would be thrilled with 9 pounds a month. You didn't gain all your weight in a few months...you won't lose it that fast either.
Your body consumes an insane number of calories healing itself immediately following a major surgery, plus you had several days of not eating at all in there. You've done the heavy lifting of healing at this point, and you're starting to eat again. You can only lose the number of pounds your body is consuming in calories.
According to mayo Clinic...A 250 lb. female who is moderately active burns about 2,050 calories per day.
Assuming you're eating about 1000 calories a day....the best you can hope for is about 2 pounds per week with moderate activity.
If you want to up this number...you have to up your calorie burn....which means more exercise every day.
The other way to up the number, is to eat fewer calories....which is a trap, because while you will lose a little more weight, you'll end up resetting your metabolism to a starvation conservation level that makes weight loss more difficult...and regain more likely.
If you want to lose more....exercise more.
But 9 pounds a month....is phenomenal progress. Be happy you're doing so well!

After I recovered, 12 weeks, I began working towards walking my 10K steps a day. That is my goal every day. Then I also work out an hour a day doing bootcamp yoga and I try to do that 5 times a week.

I run around, lift things and have a very busy life. As I said, for the first 6 months I only focused on getting in my 10K steps a day. Then 6 months in I ADDED in Yoga daily, beginners yoga. 6 months in on that and I've worked my way up to bootcamp type yoga.

IMO, yes, if I were you I would be trying to get in my steps every day and then trying to work in another work-out. These first 18 months are where all the changes happen, where all the hard work pays off. These are the months we need to fully dedicate to to this process. It's not easy, I hated it some days. But now I'm about to start wearing a size 8, I'm feeling better than ever have in my life, I more fit than ever and I feel like I'm ready to start training for American Ninja Warrior! lol! I LOVE where I am at and part of that is because I put in the hard work and sacrifice each day in the past 14 months and will continue to till I've hit "goal". And then it's time to focus on maintaining and learning what THAT life is like.

Good Luck! I am sure you will do great no matter what avenue you take!!! Congratulations on doing so well!!!

For the first year after surgery, I exercised daily. Generally this was by hill walking. My driveway was steep and I would walk up and down the driveway for 30 minutes per day. This is a great form of exercise because it uses two different sets of muscles; one set on the way up and a different set on the way down. It was also great because all I had to do was step out my front door. But I am not a great fan of exercise. It feels like wasted effort. But I am a great fan of physical labor. So in the “Maintenance” phase, I relied on physical work. This took several forms.
I live in Indiana. My driveway is 700 feet long. During the winter when it snows, I shovel my driveway. It is strenuous work but without the added weight on my body, it is not hard. I also heat my house all winter with firewood. So during the winter I am constantly moving firewood for my wood stove to keep the house warm.
During the rest of the year, there is cutting a large yard of grass and planting a garden and an assortment of other chores. Even a trip to the mailbox to get the mail is a walk of 1/4 mile.
One of the tasks I worked on over the past 2 years was building an underground shelter. Tornados struck about 7 years ago, just after I retired. The tornados did a lot of destruction to my property but spared my house. My house is a one story without a basement and there is really no place to take shelter in the event of another tornado. So I decided to build an underground shelter from an intermodal-shipping container into the side of my hill. Of course, if I build a storm shelter, it should also be a root cellar. And if I go to the effort of building a storm shelter/root cellar then why not go through a little extra effort and build it for Come-What-May, including asteroid impacts, nuclear war and nearby supernovas, etc.
So last year I moved 100,000 pounds of gravel by hand along with around 60,000 pounds of concrete blocks and this year I moved about the same amount.
This year I constructed a log cabin playhouse for the grandkids. I am 69 years old.
