I heard a really good saying taking my pre surgery nutrition class. "Even if you slip up once in the day, you have 5 more eating chances to make the right decision in the same day." Don't give up on yourself for one slip. Keep going and eat right the rest of the day, it will make you feel better. Thank you for sharing your experience and good luck.

I am scheduled for 11/17. EGD this Monday and one preop appt. left. After submission of my paperwork, my surgery was approved by Cigna in less than two weeks. [emoji854]

I think it is normal to have those thoughts. I always go back to the comment I hear and see repeatedly “I only wish I had done it sooner.”

I started my liquid diet today. I am going to take my stats and post them tomorrow. My weight has been up and down the past few weeks. I am getting excited.

I have watched hundreds of videos by doctors and patients and haven’t heard of this outside of bites or gulps that are too large, except for one person. I know her personally. She had the Lapband, but she had swallowing issues her entire life. It got worse with the band, so the had to loosen it.

My mom had to have her esophagus stretched after getting a piece of steak caught in it recently. She has not had weight-loss surgery. The cause for her is being overweight, so I wonder if that might have been the precursor instead of the surgery.

That is an extremely small study with so many variables - you did not include all these. The majority had type II diabetes and that significantly affected the presence of the dysphagia, also they did not review the techniques these 3 surgeons used - which could also affect the outcome of the sleeve. And the significant use of anti-inflammatory meds and opioid pain killers - so like I said too many variables. And also patient compliance with following post-op instructions was not considered either.
You are 'buying' trouble by trying to find silimarities to yourself in inconclusive studies. You instead need to consult with your surgeon and ask about his/her statistics - how many complications and what kind, any strictures, any leaks, etc etc. There are very few significant complications with this surgery.

Meg. You will love the next stage. I am eating everything you have listed except I haven’t had oatmeal yet. I’m thinking it might need to be grinded like you said.. I just haven’t done it yet. I LOVE Fairlife nonfat Protein milk. Sometimes I’ll have a small glass before bed. But like you I mix it in everything I can.

It would be interesting to try, maybe after I’m at the second phase on Tuesday, I might have to get some. I didn't even know there was such a thing.

I apparently have a hiatal hernia and gastritis but no symptoms. My doc will repair the hernia (both of my parents had hiatal hernias). I have to take Prilosec now, but I am pretty sure I need to stop taking massive doses of Excedrin. I have done that. My surgeon says that some people with GERD preop don’t have it post op sleeve, but some have no change. Some people get GERD for the first time. He thinks that having GERD is not a reason to get bypass instead of sleeve.

I am glad I am not the only one. I feel the same way. Some people on MFP were discouraging someone yesterday, and told her to come here. She made me think about why I am so sure. I truly believe it is because I have spent so much time preparing, mostly by absorbing information from those who have been through it and the doctors who have witnessed it all.

I too have been all over YouTube and a few other websites getting insight and as much information I could find to make my decision on the rest of my life. I choose this because I know in my heart it is something that will help me help myself.

I hear you! Day 12 here. I started the liquid 4 weeks in advance because I have a higher BMI and I was afraid to not lose my Pre-op weight on time. Anyway, I’ve gotten so tired of eating veggies and I all but had an emotional breakdown two days ago when I couldn’t eat with my family. Smells still make me want food, but I hear there is a time when you get past the wanting food. Eating is such a hard habit to break. Stay strong! I’m right here with you!

Thanks. I thought it was another thread and that was in the pre op thread. My mind is off on it's own tangent.

So exciting! I just had my pre admin testing this morning. All set and ready to go! Just ordered some cheap slippers off Amazon to bring with me to the hospital. Oh and by the way - day 6 of this liquid only diet - OVER IT! This sucks. But I'm doing it! 9 more days and counting...!!!
