  1. Hi all! I’m 18 days post-op. Surgery was 5/16, and had VSG. I’m still having trouble getting all my fluids in, and I try my hardest w Protein. I’m tired of all the sweet stuff, and I really want salt!
My phase will change on Tuesday, so I can’t wait to have some cottage cheese
I’m down between 17 & 20lbs. I’m nervous to go back to the dr bec I have not lost anything in the past 2 weeks. Anyone else stall so soon after surgery?

  2. Hi - I'm in the same boat as you. I went to the pulmonologist last year for my severe asthma and she gave me a sleep study to take home. I guess it was pretty bad because I scored a 34. I have not had a sleep study since then and was not told I should have a CPAP machine. Fast forward a year later and I need pulmonary clearance for the surgery. New pulmonologist says I MUST have a CPAP machine and orders one through my insurance. (Other pulmonologist is no longer in the office). UGH, so now I'm playing the "waiting game" for the insurance to get back to me regarding my machine. I have to go back in 3 weeks for pulmonary follow up and just want my clearance already.

So I feel you... hang in there. I keep telling myself patience is a virtue, good things happen to those who wait, blah blah blah, and everything else not to get ticked off :)

Wishing you the best on your journey!

  4. I am so happy for you! He definitely sounds like a keeper! I love this post :)

I told my fiancé about my decision to have the sleeve. We've been together for 3.5 years, and if I cannot open up to him, who am I going to open up to? He's my biggest supporter (even though he's tall and skinny, he will still eat healthy with me) and he's my "food police" when I want to "cheat".

I don't think you should be scared having this discussion. It's how you weed out the good from the bad. You told him, and he supports you! That's a good man right there! Congrats on your relationship with a keeper!

  5. OMG!! I can totally relate! I started gaining weight at 19 when I had my first asthma attack and was hospitalized and had to be on steroids. Since then, I've been struggling with my weight and am now over 100lbs overweight. The struggle is real. It's a vicious cycle: my asthma is bad because of my weight, my weight goes up because of the steroids, I have to take steroids to help the asthma. UGH!!!! I'm pre-op VSG now and going to meet the surgeon later today. I was supposed to lose 12lbs before my surgery, but had to be on Prednisone after Thanksgiving and gained weight :( So there goes my progress. It totally sucks!

Hang in there! I try to drink a lot of Water so I can pee out as much excess fluids as possible. Unfortunately that means waking up in the middle of the night with a painful bladder. You got this! You came this far and you will get through it!

  6. My insurance wants me to have 6 months of supervised dieting, however, since I'm on Weight Watchers, they have accepted that. I still have to abide by the surgeon's guidelines and find out how many months of supervision they require from me. I've completed approximately 90% of the prerequisite testing. In 2 weeks I'll complete the rest (psych evaluation, meet and greet with the surgeon, nutrition/dietician) I've been doing this for a month now, and I'm getting pretty impatient waiting for the next appointment, or even getting any information. But that is something I have to deal with. I'm hoping to have surgery In January/February (Fingers crossed!). I can't wait to have some sleeve buddies! :)

Haven't told anybody in my family that I was getting the sleeve I am scheduled for surgery the 27th of November

I understand why you don't want to tell anyone, as well. I talk about it with my fiancé, and recently one of my good friends who I go with to Weight Watchers. My friend supports me and even said her aunt had the same procedure and is doing great! But I only let people in my small nexus know. It all comes down to your choice of telling whomever you'd like. This forum is so good because you can vent your concerns, read the issues/progress/questions of others and educate yourself for what is to be expected. Please keep us posted on your journey! Looking forward to hearing (reading) all about it! Happy Thanksgiving! :)

  8. I am so scared. I’m excited but scared. Does that make sense? The VGS is permanent. Aside from oral surgery, I’ve never been under the knife. Your post is everything I’m feeling. I’m the highest weight I have ever been (thanks to a high dose and long ween of steroids), I found out I am prediabetic at age 43, and I don’t enjoy doing anything anymore because my weight keeps me prisoner. It’s not easy to garden with my weight hurting my back. I feel you. I really do. I’m almost done with all of my prerequisites for surgery. I guess if we were not worried, we’re not human? Idk. But what scares me the most- what if I am the one where the surgery does not work?

  9. Hi everyone,

After years of failing to lose weight through diets and exercise, I decided WLS is the best option for me and I'm opting for the sleeve.

What makes me worried/anxious/nervous - what if it doesn't work for me? I failed at every attempt I've tried!

I've been struggling with my weight nearly all of my life, and have been through countless gyms, group exercises, weight loss programs (LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig), and I've even tried weight loss products like Stacker 4 and Slim Fast.

How many of us have been to they gym, worked out for hours, for months, and have barely seen any weight loss?

I'm about 75% complete with my surgeon's prerequisites, and will be meeting him on Dec 13. That's when I'll also have my psych evaluation. And what I'm hoping for, a surgery date.

So I reach out to our wonderful community because I know we have all felt and tried so many things to lose the weight. Have you gone through the same jitters/self-doubt about the weight loss surgery? It is so permanent!

I plead for some positive success stories!

    Thank you!

  10. Here is a pic of my pre op diet sheet. I had my pre op class today and mine is very strict about these rules. Unless it is a premixed Protein Shake, if I can’t see through it I can’t have it. Last week I started eating cabbage Soup to add fiber to my diet, I cook it a long time to make it broth like but they said I cannot use it during my pre op diet or first 7 days of post op diet. My diet started last night at midnight.
