  1. I have an IUD and didn’t have a period for seven months leading up to my surgery and then when I was on a liquid diet, the flood gates opened and I had it for almost three/four weeks. My body has now regulated and I am back to normal. But to be honest, I think your body is just going through so much change that it does not know what is going on. I would get it checked out but my body did eventually go back to normal.

That sounds just like me haha I'm glad your back to normal and yeah I was told my body is probably in shock! Did you see the doctor about it or just let nature run its course?

  2. If I don’t take my birth control around the same time every day, I will bleed.. like clockwork... it has been terrible after surgery. My surgeon said it would regulate itself once I’m in maintenance phase 🙄 went to my “lady” doctor and she told me the same thing.. so I’ve been taking my birth control between 6-8a every single day to help.

Do you know what, I used to take it at the same time every day until I had surgery, then I chose to just take it with my Vitamins when I woke up, but I don't work so I get up at different times. I'm going to set my alarm again and take my pill separately and see what happens, thank you!

  3. Oooh hon, that’s a long time to be bleeding! You should go get checked up on. I was regular before surgery and regular after surgery. I would say early post op some might have some issues in the way of recovery, of which you could be in, BUT that is entirely too long. Please do get a check up.

Thank you, yeah I think I should when I get back home, it's ridiculous! If only there was a magic pill that just stopped it in its tracks lol

  4. Hey everyone

Just wanted to ask a quick question as I haven't been able to find anything online.

I was sleeved on the 8th of February and after 7 months of no period from being on the pill, it finally arrived on the 1st of March.

It's now the 28th of April and I'm still on, that's nearly 8 weeks of period (54 days exactly)

My doctor wants to see me to get me checked out but I was just wondering if anyone else had been on for this long, and when did it finally end?!

Mine seem to be such a tease! They get lighter and lighter and I'll even have nothing for a day then suddenly they'll be heavy again! It's really frustrating as it's making me crave bad foods more than usual. I hope I don't become anemic after all this blood loss [emoji29]

    Thanks ladies xxx

  5. Hey everyone. I thought I would do a quick update!

I am happy to confirm that I got sleeved on the 8th of February and have lost 31lbs since my preop diet!

Reading this post has made me laugh. I am so much more informed now, but if it wasn't for everyone that reassured me on here I may of not had it done. So thank you so much for all your advice!

  7. Welcome and congratulations on your surgery. Your date of surgery through me for a loop for a minute but then I figured it out. In Europe 08/02/18 is February 8, 2018. In the States it would normally mean August 2, 2018.
It is important to keep on the TED stockings because they help to minimize the possibility of blood clots. These stocking should be worn until you activity returns back to normal.
It is common to bruise after surgery. One of the reason why is because you are probably taking a blood thinner. You will bruise easily and the bruised will stay on your body for awhile. I remember for the first month, I looked horrible.
Being dizzy when you first get up is a sign of low blood pressure. It is called orthostatic hypotension. It just means that when you shift from lying down or sitting to standing, your blood pressure drops and you momentarily feel a little woozy. That's because blood pools in your legs temporarily when you stand up, and it takes the body a moment to compensate by squeezing blood out of the large veins in your legs and revving up the heart a bit.
    According to the internet:
    How to ward off wooziness
If lightheadedness when changing position is mild or occasional, you can take some practical steps to prevent it:
Check medications. A variety of medications can lower blood pressure. "That contributes to a remarkable number of cases that I see," Dr. Ruff says. It can help to lower doses or stop taking medications that you don't absolutely need—after consulting with your doctor, of course.
Get adequate fluids. Another common trigger is dehydration. Your blood is mostly Water, and the volume in your system can drop overnight and lower your blood pressure. This helps explain why dizziness upon rising from bed is so common. Drinking a lot of Water before bedtime is not the best solution, since it can send you racing to the bathroom at night. Wait until you are up and around to start taking fluids, and get enough throughout the day.
Rise slowly. After sleeping, sitting for an extended period, or eating a full meal, take your time rising to a standing position. It may help to clench your leg muscles before standing to push the pooled blood into your system.
Change your eating habits. If dizziness strikes after meals, try eating smaller but more frequent meals. It may also help to limit how many rapidly digested carbohydrates you eat in one sitting, such as white bread and other foods made with highly refined flour, white rice, potatoes, and sugary beverages.
Get moving. A bit of light exercise in the morning can also help to get the blood moving and your blood pressure up. Also, avoid standing in place or sitting for too long, because this increases pooling of blood in the legs.
So from my perspective, make sure you are taking enough fluids and electrolytes (because a lack of some minerals can cause this condition). If you were on high blood pressure medicine prior to surgery, you may want to check with your doctor and reduce the amount you are taking.

What an amazing response thank you so much. That has made me feel loads better! Yeah I always think about changing the date around to suit the US style as I know the majority of people on here are from there, but since I've already changed my weight to pounds from stones I thought I better keep something uk . I ended up calling the nurse and completely forgot to tell her about the dizzy spell so your comment has been extra helpful, thank you again and looking forward to joining everyone in their success!

  8. Hey guys, I'm on quite alot of drugs atm so sorry if there's any confusion with what I'm saying or God awful spelling mistakes

Basically I had the gastric sleeve on 08/02/18 and despite being in agony in recovery with indegestion and heart burn for the first 2 hours, everything has been going pretty well.

I've had 0 gas pains, been able to keep everything down, my incisions look great and I was discharged after one night.

I have usually been having around 4 sleeps during the day and night but yesterday I was having visitors so kept myself awake all day and decided I can have a nice long sleep for the first time since being discharged.

Well I ended up sleeping a little too much (around ten hours) and woke up shaking, nauseous, and very dizzy with a high temperature. I sat myself up and kept sipping Water before dragging myself to the toilet which was a bit of a struggle.

I also noticed my mouth tasted of blood. There was no blood but just green discharge from my throat which I have been coughing up since day one, another small concern.

Anyway after sip sip sipping my water I felt much better. I've now took my medication also and am starting to feel back to normal. Was all this because I slept too much and therefore went too long without any water and meds? Is short naps throughout the day and night safer? I'm going to be forcing my naps now lol.

Another thing I've noticed is I am now on my period. This is weird for me because the cerelle pill I'm taking had stopped me from having periods. This is my first one in 7 months and the fact its happened now seems either a little weird or just very unlucky lol.

Could I also ask how everyone's legs felt after surgery? I have to keep my stockings on for a week now and I'm walking good but to the touch my legs feel like they're bruised. (terrified of blood clots)

Now I know there is such thing as Google lol, but unfortunately I have quite bad anxiety and paranoia and have placed myself on a Google ban, because I will make myself ill with worry and assume this is the end for me

If none of this sounds normal to any of you I will give my surgeon a call, but it's very hard to tell whether I'm worrying over nothing or not.

Thanks so much, this forum is a life saver

  9. Best wishes going your way Aurora2609 on 15th February. My son said earlier it seems stange there's no one from the UK, now I've made two new friends. I'll be having a RnY early-mid March myself but I don't have a definite date yet. The scheduling person at my surgeon's office has been out with the flu, not sure if anyone's been doing her job while she's away. Please don't hate me ladies but my surgeon doesn't require a liquid diet prior to surgery, just a clean well balanced low carb one. After the hoops NHS has forced JeezLouise to jump through I can almost see steam or is it smoke? coming out her ears over that one. After surgery,I'll probably be on Clear Liquids, full liquids and softs like most everybody else. I'll find out more when I go for my preoperative blood work etc.I am truly looking forward,to my surgery when I'll,have the tool,to help me toward future weight loss. You both enjoy a fortnight of only good things in your lives and update us all after surgery.

It was definitely a mix of smoke and steam lol. They actually called me the night before again saying another cancelation could be possible. Thank God it wasn't!

  10. JeezLouise so very happy for you, know you were very upset with NHS earlier. Will be sending healing and hopeful thoughts your way 18th February. Your America cousin, hey its not impossible-my mother's ancestors Yorkshire, my father's Lancastershire, we could be 10 or 12 generations removed. Back in antiquity if you robbed somebody or poached the Kings Deer you were sent to the colonies, a fair amount went to America, Canada or Australia, so who knows?

  11. I've been on the liquid diet for about 3 weeks now. My advice is to get out of the house if you want to! I avoided going anywhere where I may be tempted to buy food or a drink and staying at home for 18 days made me very miserable. Then I managed to actually go out to a pub with my family on Water and go out shopping and actually found it wasn't too bad! Some people may find that too tempting but just putting out there what is helping for me personally. Just try to live as close to normal as you can without food xx

  12. That seriously sucks. But here are my two cents: I had a hard time sticking to my pre-op diet. I then had a super hard time with my post-op diet. To the point of cheating a few times and putting myself at serious risk of complications. I assumed post-op would be easier but it wasn’t, and the stakes are much higher. I got lucky and nothing happened, but in retrospect I should have sorted out my issues with food before I had surgery.

Really yeah that's scary when you know that food cravings lead to complications! To be honest though, I don't know what I would of been like if I just had the surgery when I should have. I would of liked to think that because everything was going as planned I wouldn't of caved in. But it's very hard to say when it hasn't happened! I'm going to try my best to snap out of it. I just had a hot cross bun ffs :(. Tomorrow will have to be a new day

  13. Wow!!!! Holy hell! I'm so sad for you. I can definitely appreciate you being gutted! And starving! Literally! ((hugs)) Please, please, please, don't ruin it. Go back to your milk. Don't even play head games with yourself right now, cuz it will be all to easy to rationalize. Just put the blinders back on and go back to it sweetie. I SWEAR it will be over soon!

Thank you hun, yeah I need to stop feeling sorry for myself and just grin and bear it! If the nurse says no to food then back on the milk I will have to go lol x

  14. If you stop now then all of your work was for nothing. Don't give up. It does suck that the winter bed crisis has affected your surgery but if you are really doing this for yourself and to better your health, you will keep pushing through. I would say if you do cheat ( which is not recommended but people do it) then have something healthy (not processed food).
It does suck, there is no way around that but you will hate yourself if you give up. You are also welcoming back all those bad habits you conquered!
    Stay strong girl!

    Awww lovely response thank you!
I regret to say that I did cave in. The meal wasn't the worst but could of been better lol. I had 3 rashes of grilled bacon, eggs, tinned tomatoes and coleslaw. I'm still craving more bad food but will try not to give in to it! Just need to hear from the asap so I know if I can go on a low carb diet like most people!

  15. Hiya guys, this is most probably going to be a long post. Don't say I didn't warn you lol

Basically I was scheduled for surgery on the 17th of January in the UK (NHS funded). I had asked for February as it would be more suitable (I was hoping to move) but they rudely told me I can not pick and choose when I get it done. That's fair enough, they're busy, just thought I'd ask. So I had to do a pre op liquid diet for two weeks before. This consists of:

4 pints of semi skimmed milk

2 salty drinks (oxo or bovril)

1-2 sachets of Fibre gel (mixes with Water to help you go to the loo)

And two pints of other sugar free liquid, this can include 1 sachet of sugar free jelly.

It's probably one of the more stricter diets compared to some others but I had done it before OK. 2 days into my diet I got a call saying that my surgery was canceled because of the winter bed crisis. I was a little bit pissed off but shrugged and thought I'll make myself something to eat. Seconds before I started I got a call telling me it was UNcancelled. That was lucky.

So back to the liquid diet I went. I forgot that last time I did this liquid diet I was a heavy smoker. I quit cigarettes 3 months prior to be as healthy as possible for surgery. The cravings ontop of having some stresses regarding moving out and other issues at home made the diet really hard. Like really hard. I didn't cheat once though, just had some extra milk one day that I was really hungry.

The night before surgery I was prepping myself to take my injection to thin my blood at 6pm. I was told to come into surgery at 7am that morning. Then at about 5pm I got a text on my phone that read:

Dear madam, we regret to inform you that your surgery on 17/01/18 has been CANCELED please call the offices on... Bla bla bla

My heart sunk. 14 hours before going to hospital they canceled. So unfair, I struggled so much yet tried so hard and did so well.

I called them and asked what was going on. They explained that the bed crisis was still happening. I asked what am I to do regarding my liquid diet. The lady said to stay on it until I receive a call and a bed becomes free but when that would be she couldn't say.

I was on the liquid diet for four more days in limbo not knowing how much longer I would be having freezing cold jelly and milk for in the winter. It was pretty **** if I'm honest.

I got a call on the 19th day of being on liquid from a lady who said that I shouldn't of been told to stay on the liquid diet. There was no way a bed would be available before two weeks, and that Ive been offered the 8th of February. This means that I was allowed for for THREE days and had to do the 2 week liquid diet all over again. The nurse advised me to have a Protein rich, low carb no fat diet.

Although part of me wanted to scream, punch a wall and raid the fridge for the worst things possible, I ended up doing the opposite. Set up a home gym in my garage to take my emotions out on and stuck to having very healthy food and even some Protein Shakes in between.

Now I'm here, day four of my SECOND pre op diet. 32 days without food in total not including the 3 measly days in between.

I'm so gutted that I'm on this situation. A part of me wanted to back out of the whole thing entirely just because of the thought of the liquid diet. I find it so unfair that some people don't even have ANY pre op requirements, and I have to go through this.

I'm really starting to struggle. I've called the clinic and asked if I can shrink my liver in a way which includes food but they told me to wait for a phone call back from the nurse.

Please tell me that if I have a day off it's not going to effect things too much. My liver must be the size of a pea right now lol! Does it expand again really quickly? Currently getting teary as I'm writing this so going to stop now lol

If you've made it this far, thank you for listening to my story, I'm not really sure what answers I'm looking for, I could probably eat **** all day and it wouldn't harm anything so early before. But some consoling would be nice I guess lol

  17. January 17th here! I was in the same boat as you. If I'm completely honest what helped my anxiety was setting up an Instagram account especially for the surgery. Seeing all the other people go through what you will go through and come out better on the other side really helped my anxiety! Part of me does think why can't I just give it one last really good go?! But I know why there's no point, because if I don't see any progress my motivation just completely slacks and I end up getting upset. I have been on my pre op liquid diet for 7 days now and I've already lost 7.6lb. Now I'm seeing progress I don't want to stop! Xx
