I was complete opposite then when I started my journey. I wanted to start with a really low weight for my goal and I’m already down 97 pounds with 61 more to go and it makes my drive to lose the weight even better and faster. Everyone had their own journeys but yes everyone does do that what they got that first goal.

I had my surgery in November. Are you getting the sleeve? The best advice I’m going to give you is to drink your Water, stay away from sick people, and make sure you’re walking and following your diet plan. I did all those things but my surgery was in the heart of the sick season and I ended up getting sick and almost dying. Just be aware what’s around you and what your putting into your body. And you can do this. You’ll be great!

When I was getting prepared for my surgery I wanted to be small just because all my friends were but if I were anywhere between 140-160 I think I’d be content because at my heaviest I was 298 and I feel if I hit that 300 mark I would have a nervous break down. I’m at 210 now and I’m hoping to get through this stall and lose more. Goodluck!

I’m sorry about your experience with the sleeve. I had a terrible experience as well but mine wasn’t like yours. I got my surgery in November and by December I was throwing up non stop. I was admitted for four days because of the vomiting and then I was allowed to come home. In January I ended up being rushed to the hospital by ambulance because I lost consciousness in the shower and fell. I ended up losing all the Fluid in my brain and had nerve damage in my leg. I’m almost 6 months out now and I’m doing great. I’m happy I got the surgery but I’m saddened by my outcome. I’m glad you’re okay. If you need anyone to talk to I’m hear to listen

I about 5 months sleeve post op and I had some gradual Hair loss. I get emotional about it sometimes. I use nioxin and I think it helps me and I upped my Protein in take. It happens. My mom had the RYN and lost a significant amount of her hair and she has to get shots in her head tan help her Hair growth but she’s almost 12 years out. Depends on our bodies and talk to your doctor and see what they recommend.

You’re more than welcome to message me anytime! I am a 21 year old and I got sleeved in November on the 28th and I’m down a total of 91 pounds so far. I’m probably one a few cases that doctors come by but you said you wanted to hear good and bad. I got my surgery done and everything went great. I was recovering as expected and I was trying to get up and walk as much as possible per my surgeons orders. About two weeks home from the hospital I got the flu from one of my friends and since my immune system was down. The flu almost killed me. I began vomiting non stop for two weeks straight and I could not keep anything down. I ended up going into the hospital for very severe dehydration. I got released after several days of being pumped with fluids and was headed home to my bed which I was super excited for. And that happened in December. We enter the month of January and I was doing good but wasn’t doing great since I was still sick. I ended up not feeling well one night and told my parents I was going to take a shower and if I’m in the shower to long just come and get me and I thank the lord everyday my parents were home. I ended up losing Consciousness in the shower due to the heat and a light headed feeling. I ended up falling down and protected my head just right to make sure I didn’t have any damage. My parents rushed in to the bathroom to find me unresponsive, thus 911 was called. I then had my parents with the help of my local fire department and paramedics help get me out of the shower get me covered up so I wasn’t exposed and take me to the hospital I had my surgery at. I ended up having lack of Fluid around my brain and was diagnosed with toxic metabolic encephalopathy. I stayed in the hospital for about a week, incoherent of everything around me. I had hallucinations and thought my dead grandfather was in my hospital room with me. I ended up losing a year of my life because I have no memory of the past year. And I’ve been on disability since my discharge in February. I have some neurological deficits but it’s mainly with memory and I have some eyesight problems as well because of everything as well as nerve damage in my leg from being so dehydrated. I’m not trying to scare you into not getting your surgery but I’m trying to make you aware of the reality of what could happen. I was very lucky and I’m very thankful every day of my life to still be alive. I don’t regret the surgery because I know I needed it to better my life and health and I’m so thankful for my guardian angels watching me. Please make sure if you get the surgery your loved ones are there and they will be there supporting you 100%. It honestly takes a huge load off your back and you feel a lot better knowing it have a good support network as well. And I write in a journal for all my feelings. Sometimes people who don’t get the surgery don’t understand what your feeling and there is sometimes a feeling of loss when you can’t eat something. I wish you all he best and I hope your surgery is smooth sailing.

I’m just like you. I didn’t know how to bring it up to my parents because I’m still on their insurance plan and I was so young I thought I might regret the surgery. When I sat my parents down they had a lot of questions and why I thought that was the best option for me. I was on the verge of having esophagus disease and I was highly infertile. I had my sleeve done in November and my mom had her surgery over 12 years ago. We used the same surgeon so he already knew us which made it easier and we got a plan set up. My dad and boyfriend ended up losing weight with me and I’m down 97 pounds so far. Don’t be discouraged by what your family says it took my other loved ones especially my aunts months to understand why I wanted to get this surgery. Sometimes people don’t understand what is best for you. If you need someone to talk to feel free to message me! And goodluck with your journey! I’m rooting for you

Like Boston states above...people generally comment/post about negative issues and problems. Kind of like giving reviews at a restaurant etc.
the regret/fear may be normal, heck, I haven’t had my rny yet (due to in 3.5 weeks) but sometimes I think, “what am I doing?!” But I have read where people have complications but fight through them and end up doing well and they don’t regret their decisions still.
Continue doing great! You got this.

. I was sleeved nov 28 2017. I got the flu right as soon as I came home and I got super sick and dehydrated. I ended up being hospitalized twice. Once in December and again taken by ambulance in January. Because I got sick I almost died due to dehydration and toxic metabolic encephalopathy. Do I regret my surgery? Not in the slightest bit. Would I do it again? In a heart beat. I don’t regret my surgery because it gave my family a wake up call and we all changed our lifestyles for the better. Now would I like to not get sick oh yea but it was an experience I had after surgery and I dealt with it and am still dealing with it. If you regret the surgery I’m sorry but you made the decision and when I made that decision it was the best one I ever made. A lot of people do have horror stories but if you follow your plan you should be fine. Im not trying to scare you with my horror story but I don’t regret it at all. Is there any reason you do regret yours?

Congrats on your journey! Hopefully you have a safe recovery! I got sleeved Nov 28 2017. I’m almost 5 months post op and I’m down 96.5 pounds in total. The gas will pass I know if uncomfortable but it will. I had a Teddy Bear I held and he helped with putting alittle pressure on my tummy every now and then but follow what your doctors orders are. Keep up the walking! It helps a lot! And when in bed make sure your are comfortable. Also make sure no sick people come around you for awhile since your post op. I had a lot happen to me when I was not even a month post op and I’m recovering from a near death experience that got brought on by the flu. Drink your Water and take your Vitamins. That is key to helping! And follow your diet plan you got to a T it helps as well. And there will be things you don’t like and things you do and you’ll come to find out what those are in time but I wish you the very best and if you have any questions about anything don’t hesitate to ask! Goodluck on your journey!

Thank you a lot for sharing your story. I think mine thought process on why I’m not okay with death is merely the fact I had no idea what was going on and leaving behind loved ones. I’ve been trying to heal from it and I haven’t had anymore crying episodes which is really great.

I was wondering if anyone here had a near death experience after they got the surgery? I’ve been having a hard time dealing with mine and just wondered if anyone else had any complications or issues post op.

I remember I packed a pair of warm socks because it can be cold in the hospital room. And a pair of slippers that way I could walk around and my tooth brush and some tooth paste. And a change of clothes so when I went home. You’re gonna be sore and in some pain and be uncomfortable but it’ll be worth if. You got this! This is just the beginning of the journey but the results will be worth it!
