Rose400491 got a reaction from PlanetHopper in Smoking weed post-op
Update! Im now fully off my Norcos and smoking if I have pain and for sleeping. I smoked my oil in my pen last night and I had no changes it just put me to sleep like normally and I felt good in the morning! So for me personally there’s no difference. So much better than taking opiates yuck those pills are poison

Rose400491 got a reaction from Ilanarose in Smoking weed post-op
Can I smoke post-op?
I’ve been an active marijuana user for quite some time now. I mainly use oils in a vape pen for discreetness and rarely will smoke it in a herbal form. I’ve actually replaced 2 of my antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication with marijuana and I had great results.
I know smoking tobacco before surgery is a no go. I don’t smoke cigarettes and I stopped smoking my cannabis oil during my pre-op stage. I am one week post-op and I do have minimal pain and I usually use the oil to sleep or get rid of headaches and back pain. I was prescribed Norcos and I do not like the way it makes me feel and it’s very addictive so it would be so much better for me if I can replace the opiate with something I’m comfortable with and know how much my body needs and won’t depend on. I also do NOT get munchies, once again I use it to sleep so it’s more of a hybrid with indica being the main focus.
Thank you!

Rose400491 reacted to TakingABreak in VSG Post-op: How many calories should I be burning at the gym?
I mean, I agree that you are going to loose the most weight by what you are consuming, vs. burning. But I don't think that is all the right advice. Because eventually, your body will adjust to your calorie and nutritional input and it won't be enough to sustain weight loss.
@Rose400491 I'd say that you need to have at least 30 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week. Getting your heart rate within reason.
Age
Target HR Zone 50-85%
Average Maximum Heart Rate, 100%

Rose400491 reacted to kakatlady612 in Post-op Gallbladder’s and pancreatitis
I have had pancreatitis myself, not a fun disease. I had my gallbladder removed in 1983, in the bad old days it was An open procedure. General surgeon walks in my room, announces We'll have to remove your gallbladder-haha,its been gone for 30+ years, then asks how long I've abused alcohol. Wrong Bozo, I don't drink. He further says But that's what usually causes it. Can you tell at at that
point he is not,my favorite person? I had been laying there in a state of peace when he barreled in. Well Sherlock, I told him, you'd better, put, on your thinking cap cause you just struck out. They never did find out what caused my case so it went into the records as idiopathic, a fancy doctor word for Duhh I don't know what caused it either. You can get gallstones in your pancreatic duct as well as the biliary one.The two duct systems kinda go together and empty, their, products into the small intestine. My surgeon in 1983 said he put gallstones on a charm Bracelet for his wife. Don't know how long they lasted before they disintergrated.

Rose400491 got a reaction from ccmac92 in Is this fine to eat on my liquid diet?
Im almost 2 weeks post-op from my gastric sleeve so I’m still on my full liquid diet. I can have high Protein Soups or cream soups with skim milk (like cream of chicken + one “can” of skim milk).
I can still have broth and I’ve been drinking the Campbells Chucky/Hearty soups (healthy heart version with low fat, low sodium, low calories) mainly broth then I’ve been blending some of the cooked vegetables and I had no problem keeping it down and digesting it.
Today I took a can and only added half of the cooked vegetables and blended it really smooth and added a scoop of Isopure unflavored protein. It’s blended up very well with no chunks at all (just has a Tomato Soup consistency) I haven’t eaten it yet but I’m concerned maybe I can’t have it yet I’m very worried about following my diet.
I was told by a few people that they were allowed to do this on their full liquid and their doctors said as long as they can keep it down cause the main focus is making sure your body can stomach it (pun intended) and digest it probably

Oh, and good luck!! I hope you are feeling better soon! I just want to make sure you get help right away and that can only happen by contacting your surgeon's office or your general practitioner.

You should direct these questions to your surgeon's office. Anything of this nature should be answered by your doctors. You could have some serious or non-serious issue and we won't know. Best advice you will get is: Call your surgeon's office, it's their job to help you with this.

Rose400491 reacted to Newme17 in Fasted Cardio? Does it actually work
Fasted cardio....not sure, but fasted weights, yes. Speaking from personal experience (and it was before WLS too). I did IF for three months, I did my workouts (cardio included, but focused solely on weights) during my fasted State. I saw results way quicker than what my norm was “eat Breakfast, wait an hour, workout, eat a post workout snack...etc). I’m waiting till I’m at maintenance (currently 8 months post) to see whether or not I want to incorporate my workouts in a fasted state or not. It worked very well for me, I was just an indecisive, couldn’t figure out what lifestyle I wanted to go with at that time kind of person and, thus I didn’t keep it up.
I didn’t have low energy either...you’d be amazed at what your body can do. Felt like I was more alert through it as well.
We can do all the research (I did too) until we actually try it and have an experience for ourselves; kind of like researching the crap out of WLS 😊 and finding our experiences to be a slightly different/better (I hope) than everything we’ve read. I hope you find what works for you.

What you can do: Be consistent, stick to your plan...and employ a buttload of patience.
Stalls just happen. They stink. Boo!
But this, too, shall pass....and the scale will move again:)

Rose400491 got a reaction from BigAussieGirl in Fasted Cardio? Does it actually work
It’s funny that you said the walking/jogging thing! I actually just starting doing that at the gym to push myself. I do it on the arc trainer but I just started it so this week I’m doing 30 seconds “running”, 30 seconds of faster “walking” then after 5 sets of sprints I get a 2 minutes recovery. I’m trying to switch it up every other day so my body doesn’t get used to the same workout

Rose400491 reacted to Thatgirl80 in How often should I be eating? Calorie intake?
My surgeon wants under 600 cals for the first 6 months. It seems so much lower then what most people are posting makes me kind of nervous.

My surgery was 10/31/17. I hate food and have a hard time too. Nutritionist said 1,000 calories and under. Surgeon said it will take 3 months to like food again

Rose400491 got a reaction from Razorman1119 in Gastric Sleeve: Daily Calorie Intake
I’m 27 days post-op from my sleeve and I’m currently on soft foods. I was just wonder if anyone has advice on what the average calorie intake is the first month or two. Right now I’m eating about 250-300 calories a day. I go to the gym every other day and I’m on light cardio (cycling, elliptical, treadmill) for the next few weeks and I burn about 200 calories there.
Should I be eating more or less calories a day? I feel fine and I’m down 34 pounds since October 3rd. Just wondering what everyone else is doing

Rose400491 reacted to Creekimp13 in Colon cleanse detox? Is it safe to use
I wouldn't use anything like that without checking with my doc.
One thing my group has OKed that works well for a lot of people is Smooth Move tea. Not sure if you've tried it yet, but if your doc says it's ok, it's worth a try. I was surprised how well it works, and it's gentle. (just make sure to start off with one cup....don't drink it all day)

Rose400491 reacted to Creekimp13 in How often should I be eating? Calorie intake?
My nutrtionist would say three meals, three Snacks. 1000-1200 calories per day.

Rose400491 reacted to KathyHayles in How often should I be eating? Calorie intake?
I feel the same way. I will be at 3 months post op on January 10th and I really don't know how much to eat. Some days I feel like I don't care to eat much but seems like other days I am getting hungry. I just upped my Protein intake with Injury "flavorless" that I can put in my Water or sprinkle on food to get more protein in. I am walking 2 miles at least six days a week, so burning a little calories as well. I never received a number for how many calories and don't know if I should be tracking calories this early on. Going to email my nutrionist.

Rose400491 reacted to LaLaDee in How often should I be eating? Calorie intake?
I try and do 3 meals and a snack. Do not snack all day. The sleeve restriction will only help you if you eat a couple of times a day. Otherwise you can squeeze in food all day and you're basically cheating yourself.
I would worry less about calories and more about whether you are hitting your Protein goals.

Rose400491 reacted to orionburn in Fasted Cardio? Does it actually work
IMO that's the better way to go. Even if it's simply a matter of using a different cardio machine on gym visits. I used to rule the stair climber and that's how I lost a lot of my weight when I was younger (and then regained it all back!). But it got to the point where I could go 30 minutes all out and I wasn't losing anything. Your body does get used to a certain routine. Looking back I think I would have had more success doing one day of interval training and other days of a more moderate/steady type of pace.
Today at lunch I used the stair climber and it has a interval program that is totally schizophrenic…lol. It’s all over the place but kept me on my toes. The nice thing about those programs is that you can start with the lower level and increase/decrease if it gets to be too much. My knees can't take running much anymore but I do enjoy a bit of jogging followed by walking when I'm outside.

Rose400491 reacted to orionburn in Fasted Cardio? Does it actually work
Same here. Honestly I think the human body is just too different due to genetics for any single diet/exercise program/routine to work for everyone. I'm sure for some doing fasted cardio is great. For me there wouldn't be any point because I'd lack any energy and would end up quitting early. You may instead want to look into foods that are good energy sources but don't necessarily cause your blood sugar to spike like certain carbs/foods can do.
From my personal experience I've always felt HIIT (high intensity interval training) is better. I always did a modified program. The core idea is to do 30 seconds of sprints followed by 30 seconds of jogging. Granted my body would explode if I tried doing that starting out...lol. So what I would do is 30 seconds of a moderate pace followed by 60 seconds of walking. You can pretty much do this on any type of cardio machine (bike, stair climber, etc). Over time I got into better shape and could push myself more. Most of the time I kept to doing 30 seconds of walking rather than jogging. The main takeway is that you want to change up the pace to keep your body in state of flux. Like anything what works for me may not work for you or anyone else. I also didn't do this all the time. It was just one other cardio routine that I did. Most machines at a gym will have some sort of interval program so maybe try that out and see how it goes.

Rose400491 reacted to BigAussieGirl in Fasted Cardio? Does it actually work
I've never read any research on this - all I can report is my personal experience. If I don't eat before going to the gym in the morning I can't perform at my normal levels, I have no energy. I need to have some yogurt or a banana before going to the gym.
I'm interested in seeing the feedback on your question.

yes - you should be able to eat it again. Maybe not for the first few weeks or months, though - that kind of stuff can be hard on healing stomachs. But at some point, yes.

Yes, you'll be able to eat it again. I eat it all the time. I think I wait till about 4 months post before I introduced it. I'm 7 mo post now. Now, it's one of my favorites! I could eat it everyday, but I don't. LOL

Rose400491 reacted to Creekimp13 in Post-Op medications to avoid?
1. I'd ask your surgeon.
2. The real risk with a diuretic would be dehydration. That would be the biggest concern. Doc might want to try a smaller dose?
3. It's only been a couple of months. Personally....I'd put up with the retained Water for a couple more months and see if it improves as your body adapts to your new circumstances.
4. But again....ASK YOUR DOCTOR. It's important.
