I’m with you! I’m 44 and at first I thought, “man, I wish I’d done it sooner when i was younger, single, had hair 😂, etc.” but honestly, I don’t think it was God’s will for me then. He kept me healthy in spite of my excessive weight and up until last year, I had no intentions of having the surgery. And now, my mindset is clearly changed for the better. I’m eating way healthier, working out regularly and I’m just 10lbs away from meeting my goal. For me, God’s timing was the best timing!

I’m 42. I was 41 when I had my VGS. I’m feeling great & 100 pounds lighter with less than 10 pounds left to lose.
I have no regrets & am glad I did it when I did. I’ve no desire to have done it sooner. I believe it was done in God’s perfect timing when my mindset was ready to embark on this journey & maintain the weight loss.

I'm 49, had my sleeve done at 48 (11.17.17), and have never felt better. I sometimes wish I would have had it done sooner, but I'm not sure I would have been mentally ready.

I'm 42 and finally scheduled to be sleeved this November. I have looked into surgery multiple times in my life, starting back in my 20s, but I never had decent enough insurance that would even touch it before now. I wish I'd had it done sooner, but I also think that I might be more successful now because I'm more mature and I understand dieting and nutrition better. I think I used to view it as a quick fix and now I know that it must be a total lifestyle change to work.

I'm 44 and getting sleeved on Monday. I've lost 50 lb on my own. I feel like this is the perfect time in my life to do it.

Reading all of your comments is so encouraging! Thanks for sharing your journey!

I can’t wait! I was so against it but realizing after 20+ years of dieting I can’t do it in my own. I am 45 yo divorced with 2 great young boys and so much to do but these last 5 years have been a struggle because of the weight. I’ve come to terms with braking up with food and stress eating no more.

I just turned 40 and was approved last week. My op date is 9/19. I don’t have regrets about waiting. I love myself more, appreciate the health and wellness impact of my decision more, and I have a more realistic grasp on what I’m getting myself into. 10/20 years ago I was struggling with seeing myself (truly), self concept, and was given to toxic relationships. Now I’m more grounded. This means so much more now than it would have then.

I’m 45 and got sleeves on 8/2. I’m glad I did it now. My kids are grown and out of the house so I can plan meals for me without worrying about their nutrition needs. I also think I appreciate it more now as a lifestyle change.

I had a starting BMI of 35 as well. I had my gastric sleeve done on 11.17.17, and in the beginning was SO frustrated with slow weight loss! I was exactly the same as you. I would see all of these people posting huge losses and would be so down. I think I had only lost 7 - 8 lbs in the first month, then 12lbs by month 2 - so you are still losing at a faster rate than I was I just had to keep telling myself that even though my weight loss was slow, it was still more that I had been able to do on my own. I am now 7 months out, and 40 lbs down, and even though I have a ways to go, I feel so much better. I still have 17 lbs before I am I normal BMI, but I know I will get there. Just hang in there and trust the process - it will work!

same! 1 month post op today and I haven't lost any weight in the last week, (but i'm down 13 lbs overall since surgery). this CAN happen as our bodies figure out the new normal. Not to worry it will go down again. I know it's hard though. it's so exciting when you see the weight number go down! I try not to weigh in every day but it's too hard not to.

I'm four years out. Rice is uncomfortable to the point of painful (at least it still was a year ago haven't tried it since). Pasta was fine the one time I tried it (at a friends house and she served ravioli so I politely ate a little). bread is fine if it's toasted. If not it sits like a doughy lump in my stomach.

    Now, now...
Everyone is going through something different after surgery here and it's all new to us. So what's a big deal to someone might not be a big deal to you. I know when I started this, I really expected the weight to just fall off quickly. Not what I wanted but what I expected. So when the weight slowly started coming off and I saw people with the same amount of time since their surgery losing more weight, I questioned myself and thought maybe I was doing something wrong.
I can totally get where MarthaT is coming from. We expect one thing and get another. If I've learned anything it's that we're all different and my journey is going to be just that, my journey.

Hahahahaha! Wonderful! I'm glad! Sometimes, I know I sound like a bi*chy little snark! But I don't mean to...I just appreciate honesty and being told if the King's new clothes leave him nekkidy. LOL. So I kind of dispense knowledge from that unfortunate perspective!!
You're really doing great. Keep it up and it will add up in no time!!!

I don't know if your "Thanks for the positivity was genuine or snarky, cuz I can't hear expression in typing." LOL. But I AM in the same boat as you.
I'm 15 days post op. I had lost 6.8lbs. NOT tearing up the streets, but "just average". And then I got put back on Clear Liquids. So I've had nothing but clear liquids and 1000ml of iv Fluid and suddenly I'm back up 2lbs. So in 15 days and NO food of any sort, other than broth, sf Jello, and a sf popsicle in 1 1/2 days. I'm now only at 4.8lbs loss. Below, well below average.
So I DO understand your frustration. There should be instant gratification and a MUCH fu*king bigger payout for rearranging your anatomy and losing the biggest % of your stomach!
But, if you continue to work the program, look toward life to get balance and other NSV payout, and just sit back and relax as you engage in healthy amounts of exercise and reconnect with people, all those 2-3 lbs will begin to add up and gain momentum. And when you look back in a year, it may look like a 70-100lb loss. And WHEN was the last time you were able to lose (or me for that matter) 100lbs in 1 year? Um, oh yeah...make that NEVER!!!!
In life there will ALWAYS be someone faster than you at whatever it is you're competing in. But this isn't a competition with anyone else but ourselves.
Hope that helps clarify and give you reassurance. (Let me remind you--in case you need a slower loser than you...In 15 days I've lost 4.8lbs. Snort. AND have a 3oz tummy capacity. ROFLMFAO!!!)
