Hi everyone! I am 1 Month and 5 days post op from VSG! I know when you have a lot to lose, the weight comes off a lot quicker in the beginning. I started my journey at BMI of 35 and I now BMI of 31(total of 13.2lbs). I weigh myself every morning and the scale doesn't seem to be moving. I would lose 0.4lbs and the next morning, I would gain 0.6lbs then lose 1.2lbs, then gain 1.4lbs....it is getting so frustrating. should I just stop weighing myself? how do you keep track? I HATE the scale and it is really ticking me off! I also can't help but to weigh myself every morning. LOL...it's like an addiction. How do you keep yourself motivated through this process. I just started a month ago so I need some advice!

I had a starting BMI of 35 as well. I had my gastric sleeve done on 11.17.17, and in the beginning was SO frustrated with slow weight loss! I was exactly the same as you. I would see all of these people posting huge losses and would be so down. I think I had only lost 7 - 8 lbs in the first month, then 12lbs by month 2 - so you are still losing at a faster rate than I was :) I just had to keep telling myself that even though my weight loss was slow, it was still more that I had been able to do on my own. I am now 7 months out, and 40 lbs down, and even though I have a ways to go, I feel so much better. I still have 17 lbs before I am I normal BMI, but I know I will get there. Just hang in there and trust the process - it will work!

  2. I am 5' 2" and started off at a relatively low BMI (for WLS) of 35 - still obese, and did have comorbidities. I am currently 147lb with a preliminary goal weight of 135, and then I will see how I feel once I get there. I would be thrilled if I could reach 115, but I'm not sure if it is realistic. I had my surgery Nov 2017, and compared to others have lost at a much slower rate, but am extremely happy with my progress so far. I have a small amount of loose skin, but I think that if I upped my exercise, that would take care of itself, either way, not enough to consider surgery I don't think.

Sleeved on 11/28/2017 and I feel like I should have lost more weight. I'm down 36 lbs but I feel like everyone else I see is down 50-60 by now. Anyone else struggling with the amount of weight they've lost in 3 months?

I totally understand! I was sleeved 11.17.17 and to date have lost 25lbs. Some days I get discouraged, but I keep telling myself that I would have NEVER lost this much weight in this amount of time prior to surgery. I agree with FluffyChix to not compare yourself with others (I know this is easier said than done). You are doing great, and you will get there - slow & steady wins the race!

If you google halo hair extensions, you can see lots of examples, but basically it is extensions that you slip over your hair, that are on an invisible band (looks similar to fishing line :) ) and is hidden by your natural hair.

Reporting back...I was sleeved on Friday ,11/17- spent 2 nights in the hospital (dr. protocol). Once I got to my room (around 12noon) I wasn't allowed to have any liquid (again dr. protocol). I was a miserable mess. Hungry and terrible air/gas pain that settled in my upper left shoulder/back. Once I started walking the pain subsided. Day 1, Saturday post op I was allowed to start my liquids. I increased my walking and almost all of the gas pain subsided. Here I am day 2 post op, Sunday) I am feeling great. I am home resting, drinkings fluids and getting up to walk around the house. I do have slight pain around the incision sites. Bending over is a no no,and getting up from a chair hurts too.

I hope everyone in the coming week and rest of November has a smooth surgery and recovery!

I am right there with you. I also had my surgery on Friday morning. I will be going home tomorrow & cant wait to sleep in my own bed. Pain has been minimal, controlled with Tylenol. I have been able to get my fluids in - broth, popsicles, Water, Gatorade, diluted juice, etc... I can start adding in Protein Shakes, yogurt and milk starting Tuesday, hopefully that will help with lack of energy. I will be going back to work on the 27th.

Hoping everyone else is healing well, and good luck to upcoming surgeries!!

Just had my preop appt. with my surgeon. It went well. He is giving me a drug called Amend. You take one pill three hours before surgery, and it prevents post op nausea. He says he has used it in 700 procedures, and it works well. Insurance may not cover it, but it only costs $30. I thought I should mention this since so many people suffer with this.

Thanks for the tip! I have always have post op nausea/vomiting so I have contacted my surgeon and requested this medication or something similar. I am waiting to hear back - keeping my fingers crossed. :)

Thank you, berry. I just cringe when I see things like this because I wonder if people are aware of the very real dangers.

Here are the Vitamin supplements that I take. The brand is Bariatric Advantage and they are pretty good. I actually look forward to them. The texture and taste are very much like Starbursts. I also take the same brand of Calcium supplements in this same type of chewable but I didn’t have the packaging for those with me. IMG_3342.JPG

As of October 12, 2017, I am 4 months post op and have lost 100 pounds. I have reached my goal weight and could not be more ecstatic!

Thanks for the tip, I ordered these and just started taking them this week.

    Hi all

I was looking for a 200 pounds and under posts, but couldn't find it. Are there any of you out there under 200 pounds who had the surgery and loosing the weight. My frame is 5'3”and I was 202 at the start of the program, did the LSD, and lost about 15 pounds. Had the surgery on 10-30-17 and at about 181.1 pounds. I know I don't have as much weight to loose as others, but it's still hard for us that are at 200 pounds. So anyone want to talk, would love to hear from you. :)

Hi we have similar stats, I am 5'2" and 180 (hoping to be down a few more by surgery date of 11.17.17), anxious to follow your progress.

  10. I am 5'2" and have a BMI of 32, an I am scheduled for surgery 11.17.17. I am insulin resistant, suffer from metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and pre-diabetic. I did not come to this decision lightly, but I have yo-yo'd for many years (Phen-Fen, HCG, Weight Watchers, Keto) you name it, I've tried it, and the weight always comes back. I personally think that this is going to be much less detrimental to my health in the long run than some of the past options I've tried, and not to mention the constant ups & downs. My husband does not think that I need it, but is 100% supportive of my decision. I am ready to take charge of my life. :)
