  1. Coffee is not mentioned on my pre-op diet sheet, but Protein Shakes sure are. Can I have coffee-shakes (Svelte, Click, etc.) Would love to compare notes!
  2. How long does it take to poop after surgery? Are poops different - I've read some awful things! Thanks in advance!

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Oh - I'm so sorry to hear this. See if they can give you some Zofran for nausea and remember, this too shall pass! Sending good thoughts your way

    Caffeine!

X-Post w/ Nutrition forum: coffee is not mentioned on my pre-op diet sheet, but Protein Shakes sure are. Can I have coffee-shakes (Svelte, Click, etc.)? Would love to compare notes with you all!

    Caffeine!

Oh God, that means I should start detox-ing now. Surgery is on the 14th.
  6. Hi all - I'm really stressed. My insurance denied my DS surgery. My surgeon is appealing. She's very experienced with this and is tenacious. Surgeon wants me to keep attending pre-op classes/appointments and stay on the schedule for surgery June 14! (Insurance person at her practice says they will likely have an answer w/in 15 days). While I hope I win the appeal, I have to ask: if I'm denied again will I be on the hook for the many doctor's visits, nutritionist, psychologist, pre-op testing, etc. that have led up to this?! Why don't docs confirm the insurance *first* before getting patients in the pipeline and giving what may be false hopes? Thanks in advance for your responses!

    Anyone else financing?

Hi all - Am very upset to have learned that my "top flight" BCBS PPO will not approve my DS (being done 9 years after a sleeve). Have you found financing through your hospital billing/financial assistance office to be an option? Can't believe I may have to self pay.
  9. Here's a question! My pcp has been after me for years to get a colonoscopy and the pre-visit is this Friday. My DS surgery is scheduled for June 14. What if they can't schedule the actual colonoscopy until after my surgery? How does it all work with rearranged intestines?!
  10. I have my one week pre-op diet in hand and while it specifies protein drinks it's a brand that only makes chocolate, vanilla, etc. Have any of you used Click protein powder? It's coffee/mocha flavor and I love it. Don't know if caffeine is on the forbidden list for any of you; I'll ask at my pre-op diet meeting, but wanted to get a head start.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

I wish I had magic! Lacking that I'm sending support your way. That waiting really is the hardest part. Sounds like your doc was pleased with today's numbers, though. Hang in there -- you're almost there, but yes it looks a long way off.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hi Everyone! I'm new here but not new to WLS. I had a VSG in 2010 and while it worked well for a few years, the next few years were rough and I re-gained. I'm seeing the same surgeon for a DS; she's scheduled it for June 14 (that's when she can get the robot!), even though I don't have official insurance approval yet. So I'm nervous. And excited. I'm a long-happily-married woman of a certain age, with a grown daughter, a perfect Golden Retriever named Stella, and 2 cats, mostly decorative. I live north of Boston and will be having my surgery with Dr. Sheila Partridge at MassGeneral/Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She is terrific. Looking forward to following this thread, especially as people start having their surgeries!

Let's Get The Duodenal Switch People Together

Hi everyone - Trying to resurrect this old thread! I had my sleeve done in 2010 and same surgeon will be doing my DS on June 14! I live in Boston and my surgeon is Dr. Sheila Partridge at Mass General/Newton-Welleseley Hospital. She's just terrific. She'll be using a robot - I'm super excited!

How soon does one poop post-op?

Thanks ... did you have to stay in the hospital until you pooped?!

Revision from Sleeve to Loop DS

Hi there -- I'm so sorry to hear about your pregnancy loss. I'm also revising from a sleeve to Loop/SADI. I had my surgery 7.5 years ago and did really well for several years until some major losses and depression led to slow regain over time. The surgeon who did my sleeve will also be doing the DS. For me the key is trusting her. I trust her completely, so what she says is what I do! I've learned what I need to do differently this time to prevent regain. I know that my surgeon has an excellent track record of her DS patients having their diabetes resolve. I hope yours will too!
  16. Hi Everyone! I'm having a SIPS/Loop DS with Dr. Sheila Partridge at Newton Wellesley Hospital in early April. I've just created a Facebook Group for Boston Area peeps! I hope you'll join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/322635081592855/?source=create_flow&ref=timeline_collection

    Celebrate Brand Vitamins, etc.?

Thanks for your response! I'm revising, or I should say "adding" a DS to my sleeve. Since I had my sleeve years ago, my surgeon has disallowed caffeine. This is a big deal for me because my favorite shakes are by Click and they are loaded with caffeine! Recommendations welcome!
  18. Has anyone been able to get all necessary vitamins/supplements from Celebrate? I like their shakes and liked their vitamins after my VSG 7 years ago. I'd like to keep things simple! Thanks.
  19. Hi everyone! I'm revising from a sleeve to DS and would love to know what your vitamin regimen is. I'll ask my nut/surgeon when I see them next in February but I thought I'd start taking vitamins now. I'm planning to use Celebrate vitamins, so thoughts about that are especially welcome. Many thanks, Babette

    Boston/Providence area surgery

Lots of love for Newton-Wellesley Hospital, especially Dr. Sheila Partridge.
  21. Greetings! I'm new here but want to know if this is the thread for discussing Loop DS. There are some forums that separate DS from the "other" DSs. Want to be sure I'm in the right place before posting! Many thanks.
  22. Hi Everyone -- I'm preparing to have my DS in the spring and want to start the vitamins now. I liked Celebrate vitamins back when I had my VSG in 2010. Does anyone here take them? Do their products cover all post-op DS needs? If not, do you have a regimen you like using other brands? The simpler the better, of course! Many thanks. Babette
  23. When I met with my nutritionist yesterday she told me that I would no longer be able to have coffee as of ... now! She said it's the caffeine. She recommended tea, which I believe has caffeine. Does anyone know the reason for this requirement. As my husband said "That would be a deal-breaker for me!" Not a deal breaker for me but I'm really curious. Especially because my favorite protein drink, Click, is loaded with caffeine!
  24. Stella post! May I send it to my surgeon and nutritionist? I can credit you with you user name here or you can pm me with your real name. Thanks again for such great ways of structuring our days leading up to ...
  25. I've read all posts and can see all sides here. That said, if I were you I'd document *everything* in chronological order. Then I'd give myself a couple of weeks to begin to stabilize and get some perspective. Then I might call a really good personal injury lawyer.
