    Morning Vs Evening

    Hi All, I agree with the majority hear for a number of reasons. Also it depends on what the purpose is for you personally. I worked out often when I was in decent shape (the 200s). I can say from personal experience doing 2 a days took its toll. Its very important to make a great habit or keeping active longterm and not overdoing it (to prevent getting hurt or painfully sore). There is a definite difference between soreness from muscle being gained etc and being close to getting hurt. So combining great healthy habits and exercise program is likely more important than the time of day to workout. For plenty of people the evening is better for keeping stress down while starting earlier can boost your metabolism or at least aid in getting it going earlier in the day. Hope that helps.

    Hi Sunbunny, How is your recovery going? I am in Fl also and my stats are somewhat close to yours except for height. I started out over 400 lbs. I'm also close in age. It may be tough to do a number of things while you're recovering, so try to be patient as you go through the process. If you have any questions drop a message anytime. Also getting close to getting under 300 for the first time in at least 10 years or more.
  3. Hi, I understand exactly where you're coming from. As a person with a minimal budget I know the shakes can get a bit pricey. You don't need to go to the gym to be active. Try to preoccupy yourself with a fun hobby etc that will help you get active again while enjoying it more. Instead of grazing try more lean meats and/or (burgers from trader joes-if there is one near you). They have the most inexpensive burgers I've seen anywhere. The positive is that you noticed your behavior lately and want to correct it, so give yourself some credit. You can get back that weight.
  4. Hi, I've heard that has happened to plenty of people. I think I am fortunate that my tastes didnt change. There are likely plenty of recipes out there that you may be able to use to substitute. Have you tried unjury? I recently found a site called the protein chef. You could also try making your own low sugar protein posicles. The doc sees plenty of ppl with various levels of progress as well as different stages. I know I was a little hard on myself when I did not like how much I lost during the pre-op diet. So I suggest focusing on meeting goals set forth by your nutritionist and beginning to gradually increase your activity. I was irritated when I began to level out and as soon as my diet was changed my progress got going again. Activity has helped that even more. I've reduced more than 50 lbs. Would I like it to be more?, ofcourse I still give myself credit for where I'm at. Similar to any journey, as long as you get to your desired destination that is what counts.
  5. Hi All, To Angel im glad you're doing well. You may want to lay off any items that expand in your system. As an example I had no food come back up until I tried cashews that were lightly salted a little early. Also that was over 8 weeks post op. Im not saying all sleevers react the same way, just reminding that your body is telling you it may not be ready for that specific food even though it was healthy. Im glad you like your numbers and congrats on the good work so far. To SVT, I hope you get through the insurance process soon. My approval process was fairly lengthy for my own reasons. Try to stay as positive as you can. If you have any questions let me know. As you get closer to getting approval you may want to see what protein drink will be preferable to you.

    Did your dietician or the place you got the procedure at mention any? For me that was the first place I found one. My nutritionist knew of another one. I looked online via searches for cities closeby. Any place that performs bariatric procedures is the best place to start.

  10. Hello Nurse, I use to love that from animanics cartoon, I digress. Hope youre recovery and 1st few weeks are going well. I know where you are coming from. Im going on 3rd month post op now. To say it was difficult for me to get approved is an understatement. I'm a military veteran so they make you go THROUGH IT to get approved. I think there are plenty of ppl who can relate. If you've got any other questions reply or message me. Im also finding some greaty healthy recipes and websites for when your diet changes through the diff phases, stages.

    Ride it all the way or like Martin Lawrence says til the wheels fall off. I def understand where you're coming from. I did not like the way I looked during diff points while I was younger and fighting to stay skinnier as I rebelled against more sensible choices. Take a few pics as you slim down and hopefully you will get used to being smaller as you catch up. If I hit 300 this year that will be more than 120 total reduction. When my nutritionist asks if I feel the diff, I remind her I've been this weight before, its the making sure I dont see it again that motivates me in some ways. The things you dont know yet is a bit a you being more in your own head than need be and maybe a little of the unknown of how you will be. I can say I more pleased with my image than previously, while not being a fan of the loose skin. So theres a give and take to it. You can read into it more than necessary and def can't get into your own way. I think you are fortunate to be with someone who is very supportive. Im single so its diff for me. In most ways you can not predict exactly how you or things will be. I say set yourself up to be the person you want to be. As long as you are doing what you can to get there that is what matters. One of the docs on my surgeons team said "oh you probably wont lose that much with the sleeve". I said to myself you dont know me and laughed to myself. Most men do not see the numbers I did in the first 4 weeks post op. So heck with what others say unless thay are supportive or constructive critics. Also dont get angry with the scale like afunny tv show I like where as one characters is working incredibly hard to lose weight and starts yelling at the scale lol. Do not weight yourself more tha once a week on the same day every time, unless you are trying to narrow down how effective a major change is or was. For example I worked outside more and sweated alot so I weighed in early to see if it made a diff. Def go to the groups. I met one guy who did the sleeve and is older than be by maybe 10 years and he went down 200 lbs. I feel there is a false myth that the bypass is so much more effective than the sleeve. I meet more mature women that say in group they go through a tough time, it tends to be that more of them are bypass patients. Get a couple of books that reinforce positive body image as well as others that go into all aspects and how to modify your view. It will probably help.

    Excess skin....

    What would you consider as a problem? I've gotten more than I prefer over the years as a cost of my weight issues. Since going through this weight loss process it has improved some. Since I've done some research I am waiting until I get to my goal to decide on any further action. A lot of the data which makes sense states to wait until you are very near or at your goal to see about any skin reduction procedures via surgery. Hope tht helps.

    Thanks. My next major goal is getting under 300. I may get there before the year is out. I actually dont love the gym. I like parks more since I've gotten a little older. Wow you're awesome. 110 is an impressive achievement. I mean you may go through being on track while still not enjoying going to a dinner out where others are ordering whatever they want. You may not like certain foods as your diet progresses since you may not be allowed to eat solid foods for a fair amount of time. I say that because for some people their tastes can change. What you might have enjoyed alot before you may not like as much. What food means to you may change some. Overall its a physical and mental process. Its not all one-sided. Simply putting in the work and going through the procedure is simply the start. Some days may be better than others. My first month was amazing. When my body started getting used to it all and my progress stopped for a couple of weeks I was considerably frustrated and somewhat down. So for me its a combo of knowing, reassuring that you made a decision to improve your life and that the procedure is the tool is very important. As a guy I'm not always into my feelings so the women at the support groups tend to express some of what they've gone through. I get the sense that it is more emotional to them. That isn't to say that I do not express my feelings, its more about the way I view things at times. I apply more of a logical approach. I accept that some people can reach their physical goal(s) whereas I know I must work hard to get there and maintain. Its the way it is at the same time that isn't always easy to go through. Some emotions are also tied or rooted in diff behaviors, so I started the pre-op diet knowing I need to change specific behaviors. Also that its is better for me to apply a utilitarian approach to food (meaning I use it for fuel and to nurture myself and/or others). Your experience may be similar to mine in some ways and differ in others. There is also adjusting your body image. Inside I can still see that overconfident great looking guy that wasnt really used to getting as much attention from women so it was a bit unusual. Everyone has at least one thing they may not like about themselves, so when you add the stretch marks that will show more after the procedure, and deal with how your skin responds (if it goes back in place as much as you want it to or not) it can become one more thing to focus on. Some things may take a little getting used to. Sorry I got longwinded, I guess Im more enthusiastic since Im getting closer to my goal(s).

    My pleasure. I should've gotten on here sooner, been really busy. I celebrated a real victory lately reaching a weight I had not seen in years. Being positive and taking the process as a bit of a challenge will help. Im not saying there werent tough days. You'll go through a variety of emotions. I also cheated and glad I went to a support group meeting because of the connections I made there. I am heading into month number 3 and loving my progress. Also dont put too much emphasis on a number. I was at the best shape of my life years ago and full of myself somewhat. Write down any questions you've got ahead of time. I spoke to mine so quick I still had more questions I had not thought of and he was out the door. Get as organized as you can be. I keep a food and drink log and started with a pedometer well before the procedure.

    8 months post sleeve surgery

    Hi, Im fairly new here and I know where you're coming from. You're likely frustrated and I can relate. I hit a bit of a leveling out where my body started getting used to the calories and the diet phase I was at. For me the key was advancing my diet and making sure I get the water intake the nutritionist suggested. Those changes as well as increasing my activity equated to getting back on track. To give an example I've increased my walking and other exercise and dropped 9 lbs in less than a week. I stopped dropping and then gained back 2 lbs on the dot. What phase are you on diet wise? What are you eating and how much? What is your goal wait? Also give yourself credit for the progress you've made thus far, it may reduce the negative feelings some. If you want to know for some peace of mind whether your sleeve has stretched or not see if you can get a test done that will. The test they likely did during your pre-op will probably give you the answer. Also to give you an idea from some research I did, it takes usually more than a year to as long as several years for it to stretch at all. Can you tell how much your reduced stomach can hold? Are you undereating to try to safeguard against any stretching?

If I can help feel free to reply. Im really new on here. I've been doing plenty of research lately on healthy recipes etc. Im also doing really well with my weight loss. I can say I personally wish I would've scheduled mine sooner.
  17. Hi, Im glad you're feeling better. I can relate as far as dealing with challenging times. Keep in my that this is a new experience in your life that will be for the better. Do what you can to work on staying positive and I suggest going to a local support groups if you're not already. I met a few great ppl nearby that are really helpful.

    Need a buddy

    Hi, How are you doing now? It is a part of the process and you will go through different feelings in post op. Get a notebook to write down any questions you think of for the docs nurses and nutritionist/dietician. Be as patient as possible with all that you will go through. I also agree that when you get to the semi solid as well as solid food stage chewing so the food is very fine and eating proteins first is very important. I hope I was helpful. Also researching healthy alternative foods to replace somethings you mightve eaten before is helpful for when your diet is advanced.

    Any Florida sleevers?

    Hi, Im in Margate area. Still adjusting to the whole process. I wouldve loved ice chips the 1st day post op. They dont tell you beforehand that you will not get any water after you wake up. Atleast no one told me and it wasnt the best surprise. Im happy with the progress several weeks post op. How is everyone else doing?
