KarenOR got a reaction from Frustr8 in Breast reduction- did anyone get one after surgery? If so why?
You look amazing! I've lost about 70 pounds and my huge boobs are starting to deflate. I remarked today to a friend that I didn't think one should be able to fold over their boobs.
I don't know that I would do it just for clothing, but it's 100% what you feel comfortable doing. There are lots of types or coats and clothing. Plus, anything can be altered by a good tailor. You can for sure be documenting as they start to hurt, and I imagine they will. Hopefully with that, the insurance will be more likely to cover it.

I was very selective about telling friends for this reason. I have one very good friend who is also fat and I decided not to tell her. She knows that I've been working out all summer and eating well, but I just couldn't go over that hurdle. Since you did tell this friend and she seems to want to sabotage you, or at least be really obnoxious about food, then I would let her know and if she persists, put that friendship on hold for a while.
I completely understand not wanting to have people change their lives for you, but YOU are changing your own life for the better and you have to make decisions about what things might interfere with that. Hell, I'm making my family "suffer" along with me. Even though, I didn't buy a lot of junk, I've even dialed back on things like crackers and goldfish right now. My poor children have cut up fruit and veggies in the fridge. I can't even eat that yet. I never thought I would miss raw veggies !

The lowest calorie ones, I think, are the Popsicle brand, sugar free at 15 calories each. They are available just about anywhere. I suppose you could also make your own with Crystal Light or something similar.

KarenOR reacted to Creekimp13 in Do you like "Food Police" in your life? - Yes or No
Adults who police other adults....unless they are seriously invested in the situation (spouse, child)...in my opinion are annoying, rude, and potentially bullying. Fat shaming is one of the last protected ugly prejudices. People can be unkind using "but it's for their own good" as an excuse for their unkindness.
My significant other and my bestie don't police me, but they are extremely supportive and try to be helpful.
There's a huge difference between "Should you be eating that?" and "What can I make that's on your diet so we can both enjoy it?"
There's also a huge difference between advice that's given from a place of genuine love and concern...and advice that's given out of a sense of pious superiority or nastiness.
    Semantics matter.

I love the Syntrax Nectars as far as powder. The Kay's natural white cheddar puffs are good. The mac and cheese ones, not so much. There are a few Protein Bars that are good and taste like candy, but I prefer the generic Quest bars from costco. I don't need to be tricking my brain to think it's eating candy

It's nobody's business. If you aren't up for telling them, then don't. Maybe you will later, maybe not. Don't sweat it.

That was one my biggest annoyances. I had to sleep on my back for about a week, and I'm exclusively a side sleeper. Between the surgery and a bruised rib during, it was impossible to side sleep. Sometimes recliner helped, sometimes not.

KarenOR reacted to RickM in Soft protein bars?
Quest bars are generally on the soft and chewy side - depends on their temperature, but many warm them up in the microwave for a few seconds. As they generally are not layered, frosted or crunchy, they take well to being kept in a car or purse (or pocket) and aren't bothered by being warmed some. Read the description of their different varieties, as they seem to have introduced new ones lately that are layered or iced that may not work as well in this regard.

How is your GERD hunger different from regular hunger? I am on meds twice a day, so I really don't think my hunger is GERD, but I am hungry all the damn time and it's making be irritable and generally crazy. I can't imagine it's GERD hunger and I know it's not head hunger. I thought after surgery, you aren't supposed to feel hunger. Guess I'm just lucky.

It depends on the kind of foods for me. I'm almost 3 months out. Some things aren't sitting as well, but I can definitely eat 3-4oz of Protein and a few bites of other things. Lots of people have trouble with carbs, I don't. I most certainly can eat nowhere near what I did before, obviously. But I also don't eat so minimally that people think it's weird.

Those instances with eating issues years out are very rare, some people have underlying conditions that they either didn't know about (gastroparesis) or had complications (which are less than 1%), or unresolved eating disorders.

I think it's nice. They work really hard and probably don't always feel appreciated. There were lots of notes up in the halls at my hospital. You could send a nice fruit basket or edible arrangement. I'm sure they would appreciate that. But even just a note, I'm sure is much appreciated.

I think forever. At the beginning, I think it's about getting too full with the tight pouch, but later it continues to be a matter of pushing the nutrients through your body too quickly.
