    MEN 300-350 LBS WEIGHT LOSS

I had a starting weight of 347 when I had surgery October 2017 (I can't believe it's coming up on two years already). I currently hover between 170-173 lbs. Went from a XXXL shirt and 44 pants to a medium shirt and 32 pants. I have so much more energy and can move so much easier. I had VSG done and don't regret a second of it! My BMI went from 50 to a normal range of 24.5. I'm technically "Half the man I used to be"
  2. It's been done before, but many new people on here since the last go 'round. I'm at a complete set of Oxford Dictionary, a sperm whale's brain, and a guinea pig all together 1 pound = a Guinea Pig 1.5 pounds = a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts 2 pounds = a rack of baby back ribs 3 pounds = an average human brain 4 pounds = an ostrich egg 5 pounds = a Chihuahua 6 pounds = a human’s skin 7.5 pounds = an average newborn 8 pounds = a human head 10 pounds= chemical additives an American consumes each year 11 pounds = an average housecat 12 pounds = a Bald Eagle 15 pounds = 10 dozen large eggs 16 pounds = a sperm whale’s brain 20 pounds = an automobile tire 23 pounds = amount of pizza an average American eats in a year 24 pounds = a 3-gallon tub of super premium ice cream 30 pounds = amount of cheese an average American eats in a year 33 pounds = a cinder block 36 pounds = a mid-size microwave 40 pounds = a 5-gallon bottle of water or an average human leg 44 pounds = an elephant’s heart 50 pounds = a small bale of hay 55 pounds = a 5000 BTU air conditioner 60 pounds = an elephant’s penis (yep, weights more than his heart!) 66 pounds = fats and oils an average American eats in a year 70 pounds = an Irish Setter 77 pounds = a gold brick 80 pounds = the World’s Largest Ball of Tape 90 pounds = a newborn calf 100 pounds = a 2 month old horse 111 pounds = red meat an average American eats in a year 117 pounds = an average fashion model (and she’s 5’11″) 118 pounds = the complete Encyclopedia Britannica 120 pounds = amount of trash you throw away in a month 130 pounds = a newborn giraffe 138 pounds = potatoes an average American eats in a year 140 pounds = refined sugar an average American eats in a year 144 pounds = an average adult woman (and she’s 5’4″) 150 pounds = the complete Oxford English Dictionary 187 pounds = an average adult man 200 pounds = 2 Bloodhounds 235 pounds = Arnold Schwarzenegger 300 pounds = an average football lineman 400 pounds = a Welsh pony

    Pounds lost

I'm just over 18 months post op and am down 177 pounds from my highest weight of 347. Time has flown by, now back to the gym to hit weights harder to try and put on some mass.
  4. I'm a finisher of a half marathon! Completed yesterday on a beautiful day to run. My hips and Knee are pretty angry with me today, but we finished at 2:19. Not bad for my first half. I was able to run with my wife, so that made it much nicer and easier to get through

      Outstanding!!!! Woooooot!

  5. I finished my first half marathon yesterday! Finished in 2:12. Had two packages of Stingers chews, water, and nuun for hydration. I'm glad it's over as my hips and right knee are mad at me today! It was a beautiful day, and I was able to run with my wife, so it couldn't have gone better
  6. I am running my first half marathon in two weeks, and have been training for a little over two months now. Yesterday finished our last long run of 12 miles and took some Stinger chews (luckily for me, nothing I've tried yet turns my stomach). I also plan to have my pack on with water and some liquid carbs, along with a protein bar. I plan to water down the gatorade with some water at the aid stations, or just might pack a bottle with me to save some time and energy. Hard to believe I've gone from 347 to 173...and a spectator at the finish line to participant. Best of luck to you on your journey!
  7. So my wife is an avid runner and athlete (numerous half marathons, full marathons, ironmans, etc), and she has convinced me that now that I'm 170 lbs lighter, to do a half marathon (13.1 miles) on St. Patrick's Day. This week I have ran 3 and 4 miles without any major issue, just a little sore the next day. I will continue to train the next couple of months to make sure I'm ready to go. Do you think this will be feasible to do? Any tips or advice on training, prepping for the run, etc? TIA!
  8. I was sleeved 10/16/17 with a highest weight of 347, surgery weight of 283. This morning I weighed 174.2! What a year it has been. Ups and downs, struggles and successes, and figuring out the new me. I was a 3xl shirt and 44" waist, and am now wearing a Large slim fit shirt and 32" pants. Life is much more enjoyable with my new found energy, ability to move around, and to squeeze through places I never thought of before. The year has flown by pretty quickly, and I am so happy to have made the decision to go forward with surgery.

Gastric sleeve friends a year out or more

I am just one year post op, but I will meet with my surgeon yearly for blood work, etc.

    Today marks 1 year!

In the blink of an eye (or at least what it seems), you too will be one year out and enjoying the new and improved you! Thank you!

    Thank you! I feel great!

    Can you drink pop?

Can I? Yes. Do I? No. Too much sugar and pointless for me now (unless it has a shot of whiskey). Stick to water or flavored water. Stay away from the carbonation.

    Killing it! Good work!
  14. Good luck to all of you October sleevers. October 16th will mark my one year anniversary, and I'm ecstatic with the results so far, high weight of 347, and 178.2 as of this morning. It is a life changing procedure, and I am so glad to have made the decision to go through with it. In the blink of an eye, you too will be at your 1 year, asking yourself, "Why didn't I do this sooner?"
  15. Like others have said, it will show as you progress into more solid foods. The restriction will hit rather quickly. Take your time eating as you get used to your new "normal" and make sure to chew. Almost 1 year post op and don't feel much different from month 2 to 11 when it comes to the amount of food. Enjoy the few bites you have, and better yet, enjoy the conversation with those that you are with.
  16. Coaching for me at 350 vs 180 is so much different! Good luck this season.

    I don't understand!!!

Just stay the course. The scale will play mind tricks on you as your body adjusts. Keep to the plan and look at your results month over month.

    Need support.

Being nervous is normal and expected. Just remember why you are making the change, and the positives that will come of it. I'm 11 months out and feel like the year has gone by in a blink. I've done so many things in this year that I never could have done before (ziplining, jogging, buying clothes at any store I walk in, etc.) that I would never want to go back in time. The first month takes some adjusting, but after that, seems like it becomes the new "norm". There are many outlets on here to reach out to that will help get you through this.

    Incredible!

    Vitamins

I currently use the Bariatric Choice all in one chewable vitamin. I have 4 of those per day, along with 1 B1 in the morning, and 1 B12 chewable every 5 days. The taste is just ok, but I can get those down much better than the multiple pills I had to swallow before switching to the chewable.
  21. Search up "3 week stall." This stall varies in length but will break. Continue on track and before you know it, the scale will start to drop. Mine lasted about 10 days. There will be more stalls throughout your journey.
  22. Can't believe I even said the headline! Crazy to think that 17 months ago I tipped the scale at 347 lbs and now right around 180-182. I don't want to lose anymore weight! I still have a little belly, which may be quite a bit of skin, but there isn't much else to lose, so my focus must be to building muscle and putting on some muscle mass. Any tips or recommendations would be appreciated.
  23. Wow, how times have changed. On August 2, 2017 I had my very first appointment with Kaiser to discuss VSG. At the time, I was somewhere around 320 lbs, down 27 lbs from my highest weight of 347. I was a 44/46 waist, 3XL shirt, and moving around was a struggle after a while. Fast forward 12 months later and I am now 180 lbs, wearing a 32 waist, L shirt, and have more energy than I have had in years! I put on shorts that I used to wear and was able to fit my new body into one leg! If I can do it, anyone can. Much of the struggle is mental and requires a lifestyle change. I still enjoy myself, cheat on occassion, have a beer, etc. but I am much more mindful and aware of what goes into my body.
