    Finally Started to Excercise

Jenny, no discomfort or pain. I'm going slow and steady. Not taxing myself
  2. Taylor, with all of your existing conditions your insurance carrier didn't pay for your surgery? Don't mean to get personal, what insurance carrier do you have? It's unconscionable that they would deny you coverage for WLS.

    Constant Nausia

I was sent home with an anti nausea medication. I didn't need it but good to have just in case.
  4. I wasn't allowed protein drinks on my liquid phase either. It was water, tea, broth (my wife made it from scratch), sugar free jello and sugar free ice pops. It was a full time job to get my 64 ounces in each day. I'd just zip, zip all day long. You will experience fatigue and don't fight the feeling to nap. It'll help you to recover.
  5. On the day of my surgery I was at 211lbs. My goal was to get off my meds for diabetes, blood pressure, cholesterol and heart burn. Today, nine weeks out I'm down to 178lbs (33lbs). I'm off all of my meds except for the cholesterol meds. I'm hoping that my next blood test will show a substantial improvement and I'll be off those as well. I wasn't looking for the weight loss others had, I wanted enough of a weight loss to be healthy without medications. I'm also losing weight slowly because I'm 60 and I found out through the forums us seniors lose the weight more slowly.

    Post op complications

Prior to my surgery I was taking omerzapole. Post surgery I continued to take it until last week. It seems with my dramatic diet change I don't get heartburn anymore. As for sleeping I slept in my recliner for two weeks post op. Regrets, are something we experience when we are having difficulties after a major life changing experience. You had surgery and you are now experiencing difficulties. Once you get past this and you start losing weight and getting healthier you'll know you made the right decision. Hang in there, I know it's difficult now, but your best days are ahead of you.

    What happened?

It actually has to do with the way we are post surgery as well. After surgery I didn't and couldn't eat the way I did before. I turned down many invitations to dine out. I'm sure after awhile the invites will stop coming. The difference between me and you is I'm 60 and your still young (as another poster pointed out) for me, it's no big deal if my friends don't invite me to dine out. I have one singular goal and that's be healthy. As another poster pointed out, if I continue to do what my friends do I might go back to my old eating habits. Those habits caused me to have heart problems, diabetes, sleep apnea, gout and other health problems. I'm 30lbs down and most of my meds are gone. I no longer snore at night , my A1c went down and my BP is at an all time low. Sometimes in life we have to make a clean break and start new beginnings. WLS was a total reset for me and my plans are to try my best to learn new healthier habits and get rid of my old unhealthy habits.
  9. I weigh once a week. My Dr. told me I'd go nuts if I weighed myself every day.
  10. I used to take probiotics before surgery. I stopped after surgery figuring my stomach was smaller and I wouldn't get any benefit from them. Anyone here taking probiotics after WLS?
  11. That's what happened to me when I started solid foods. I ate a few pieces of chicken fast (didn't thoroughly chew) and felt queezy. I went to throw up but I later found out that after gastric sleeve one doesn't throw up bile. It's more like mucous and spit. After spitting a few times I felt better and realized I needed to chew my food better and slower. I'm also nine weeks out from surgery.

    Help needed

All I can say is congratulations on losing close to 200lbs. The most important question, how is your health? I'm sure losing close to 200lbs had a positive effect on your health.

    Documenting the Steps

I was a self professed professional coffee drinker. I loved my coffee. I could drink a cup and go right to sleep. My nutritionist had me give up caffeine three months prior to my surgery. She told me to drink herbal tea. I'm six weeks post op and I haven't gone back to coffee. Strange, I thought that I would go right back to it after surgery. I put 1/2 and 1/2 and splenda in my coffee. I drink the tea plain without anything added. So far herbal tea has been a better choice as I look to stay healthy and slim down.

    Surgery Now or Later? (Poll)

I'd wait, I have a big family and we get together during the holidays. Since I didn't tell anyone about the surgery I wouldn't want to have to make excuses to my whole family why I wasn't eating or why I was losing weight during the holidays. After the holidays it would just me and the wife and far fewer people I have to explain things to.
  16. I'm a guy and I'm with you 100%. I told a few close relatives about my surgery. They all kept it quiet as did my wife. A friend once told me that he was dying of cancer. I confided this with my wife and told her not to tell anyone since it wasn't our place to say anything. Another neighbor made a comment about how my friend doesn't look so good. My wife told her that he was dying of cancer. I was beside myself, a trust was broken and it really bothered me. My wife to her credit realized that she did wrong and I'm sure it wont happen again. The difference between my wife and your husband is that she realized what she did was wrong. Your husband doesn't see that he did the wrong thing by betraying your confidence. As for me, I don't think its anyone's business what I decide to do as far as my health is concerned. As for explaining the weight loss I tell people at work that four of my friends and me each put $1000 in a pot and the one to lose the most weight by new years wins the pot. Basically, I told them I'm on a diet to win $5,000. It seems to be working as most people at work don't even comment on my weight loss after the explanation.

    Probiotics After WLS

A big Mahalo for all of your suggestions and comments. I restarted my probiotics.

    Water, Water Everywhere...

I found an app that helps me keep track of my liquid intake. Go to your app store and look at the different apps that are available. I have a 32oz water bottle that I drink all day. I fill it twice to get mt 64oz of liquids. The first few days after surgery were the hardest as for getting in my liquids. I drank water, herbal tea, chicken broth and ate sugar free jello and sugar free ice pops.

    Recovery

You can do most things that you want. All you need to do is plan it out. When I go out I bring my soft sided ice cooler with two 32 oz water bottles, 2 containers of muscle milk protein shakes, two snacks such as string cheese, a portion of baked chicken breast or other high protein meal and anything else that I feel that I will need to get through the time I'm away from home. You will be drinking a lot of water so, make sure you bring enough with you. Go, enjoy your kids and their holiday activities.
  20. The worst thing for me is the feeling of being full all the time. I never had this feeling in my life. I had such a good relationship with food and now we're estranged. I eat the foods that I'm allowed but find that I can't eat much and I don't get pleasure from eating. I'm sure over time this feeling will be my new norm but for now it's a very strange feeling. I'm still glad that I had the surgery.
  21. The weight will come off. Everyone is different, that being said the fact that you'll eat less will eventually cause you to lose weight.

    Low bp

I had to go to the doctor and have my BP med adjusted. It was lowered. I was getting dizzy now, I'm ok. So due to your surgery and weight loss your BP will probably be lower.

    Having 2nd thoughts now

I choose the sleeve because it was a less intrusive surgery. Six weeks out and I'm off all my diabetes meds and my blood pressure med was reduced. Down 29lbs so far.
  24. When I got my surgery date I went on a food farewell tour. Went to all my favorite restaurants and ate my favorite foods. I felt that I probably wouldnt be going back to those restaurants or eating those foods. Six weeks post op I’m feeling good about the surgery and best of all I dont miss the restaurants or food. From what I’m reading food funerals or farewell tours aren’t unusual.
  25. As soon as I went down in size I gave my friends and family my bigger sized clothing.
