I'm so sorry Suzi. I hated food too. I didn't have the kinds of problems you are having, but food just didn't taste the same. I only ate because I had to.
The one thing I really enjoyed was the Bariatric Pal hot chocolate. I know at 6 weeks out they do not advise this for our meals, however I figured it was better than not getting any nutrients.
Please know we are all thinking of you and hope this will pass soon for you. ❤

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. The one thing that was never mentioned was you can get gout during the fasting before surgery, and also after. I'd say that was worse than any pain I'd ever had.
After surgery, food tasted terrible. So for me, I could care less what other people were eating. The surgery also disrupts your hunger hormone. So, people that I know that had the surgery, just were not hungry.
Constpation was a problem for me, but it settled after a few months.
I wish you the very best on you upcoming surgery and for a smooth transition after.

So, a week since my surgery. One, you gain about 10lbs in Water weight from all the iv fluids they pump in ya, but you pee them out quickly.
Two, The pain from the hernia surgery far outweighs the pain from the sleeve surgery.
Three, Getting fluids in is rough, because it seems there isn't enough time in the day.
Four, ZERO Hunger, but every time a commercial for pizza or burgers comes on tv I want one.
Five, So far so good. Can't wait to get to soft foods in a week, because the Protein Shakes, Protein water, and yogurt is getting old.
Six, Down 10lbs since the day of the surgery Not including the 10lbs of fluids, 50lb mark overall. Not so bad yet.

I wish someone would have told me the things I was so worried about wouldn’t be such a big deal! I was so worried about giving up my Coke Zero addiction, and it’s been a complete non-issue. I was also very worried about loose skin. I took care of that via plastic surgery and feel great.

I really only felt conspicuous the first three months or so (and you're in luck - we're in a pandemic, so not many people are meeting up for meals ANYWAY -- so it's likely to be just your family). After that, I could usually find something on any given menu that I could eat, and I'd usually order something like Soup, chili, or an appetizer. If anyone said anything, I'd just say I wasn't that hungry. Although I have skinny friends who usually eat like that, so I rarely was asked.
at this point, and really for the last three years, I eat pretty much like my never-been-obese women friends who are watching their calories. Sometimes if I'm not particularly hungry I'll still order something like soup or an appetizer - otherwise I'll order a "safe" entree and eat half of it. I'll take the other half to go and eat it the next day.
if you're talking about meals with your family, that never bothered me. It's just me and my husband at my house. He ate his thing and I ate mine. After the first few weeks or so, we'd eat the same thing - but he'd eat more of it, of course - and I'd also give him something like a potato or rice with his.

    Before surgery:
    - after day 2 or 3 it will become MUCH easier
    - watch the Constipation
    - start taking your Multi Vitamins
    - you might suffer mood swings with sudden changes to sugar and caffeine levels

    After surgery:
    - TRUST the process
    - get some anti constipation meds, coloxyl, movicol etc as a precaution if needed
    - that damnes gas pain hurts like hell. Walk walk walk....and fart.< br>- oh, don't trust that farts will be dry....
    - Water may not sit well on its own in your belly, try half water and half apple juice
    - Don't cheat , you will pay dearly for it... trust me
    - sleep may be disturbed for the first week, catch cat naps when you can
    - Don't rush anything, you will hurt in your belly or become exhausted quickly
    - get some scar minimising cream it works wonders
    - you may wake up one morning and believe you are back to 100%. Stay on course as per your surgeons advice.

    Surgery date was 6/2000
i am 21 yrs out and a daily exerciser. My step are always over 10k a day. Very active. My pouch has stretched for sure. In July 2020 I had a stomach ablation done where they go down the throat and zap the pouch to try to create some scar tissue to try to shrink the pouch to give you a feeling of fullness as if he just had surgery. I was on liquids for two weeks and lost 12 pounds. I went crazy not having solid foods. I’ve gained six of those pounds back over the holidays. I’m currently sitting in about 221 I want to be at least 180. My biggest challenge is I can’t seem to stick to any food plan. After the ablation the doctor had me doing 800 g of fruits and vegetables a day. No he’s a gastroenterologist and he supposed to know that we are to eat Protein first. He disagrees. I’m in a major metro of San Diego so it’s not like he’s a fly-by-night doctor. About 10 years ago I had a metabolism study done at Scripps hospital in la Jolla and they said metabolism had really slowed and my resting metabolism was about 1486 cal a day. I’m not sure what that equates to but they said I should eat under 1200 cal a day. I’m just really struggling getting this weight off I keep starting the five day restart pouch thing and then I’ll eat pizza… chocolate seems to be in the mix every night. I am extremely frustrated and can’t seem to get any of this weight off on my own. About five years out from my by pass I turned alcohol and became an alcoholic. That was crazy! I am 8 yrs sober and 59 yrs old! Help please! I wish I could get the surgery all over again !

So, I was getting my hair cut today and was talking to the women cutting my hair (not someone I've seen before). We started talking about how there isn't much to do right now because we are still pretty limited. I mentioned I was out hiking yesterday since being outside is one of the things we can do. She said that must be why I'm so skinny I've NEVER, not once before been called skinny...

Hi so I'm new here and was wandering if anyone else is going through the same? I'm 13 days PO and I've barely lost anything. Week one I was so excited to weigh but I lost nothing! I've never heard of anyone who didn't lose alot week 1. Into week 2 and I'm only down 6Ibs and I realy dont know why. I'm sticking to everything I'm supposed to, barely managing 3 to 500 calories a day and havent cheated with anything. Has anyone had similar problem? My clinic just told me up my Protein but I should still be in liquid stage. Tia

Oddly, yesterday I noticed my doctor office sent me a video to watch and a test so I watched and took the test not really thinking anything of it. Just now my coordinator called on a Sunday to schedule my pre consents for Thursday at noon. This is starting to move along im almost there.

Oh thats good information to know! Unfortunately I will have extra skin no matter what just because of my body shape. But that's so awesome for you on your success! I just had my surgery on the 19th. My original date was December 15th and it got postponed. I went with Bypass and I absolutely don't regret it! I'm feeling much better then I thought I would this early on, so im very thankful.

    Hello,
thank you for your kind words.
The reason I decided to go below my goal weight was this. I kept hearing about a 20 lb average weight gain at around 2 years out from surgery. I figured if that was a possibility, that I should prepare for that. I am 3 years 3 months out from my surgery date. Fortunately, I didn't gain the 20 lbs.
I don't feel like I am too thin. Flabby yes. It has been a struggle to exercise since Covid19. I am sure I'm not the only one struggling.
When will you have your surgery? What surgery did you decide on? I am praying for everyone playing the waiting game due to covid19.

    First, congratulations! You look amazing!

If you don't mind me asking, are you happy you surpassed your goal weight? Or do you feel too small since its a 30 lb difference? I've always wondered how I would feel if it happened to me.
