  1. Hear, hear to that thought. It's a "horses for courses" situation when it comes to personal info versus family, friends and work colleagues.

WTF DID MY HUSBAND JUST SAY?

Nearly here now. i.e. Winter! I am out of the swimming pool after two hours in just 25C "heated" water. I have my padded football goalkeeper's jersey on plus a sheepskin coat to make the 25 km/h wind on this 13C day seem less powerful. The warm days of autumn are starting to give us cold nights on the NSW central coast.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Finally made it to 100+ pounds (46+ kg) off in just under 10 months after I first met the surgeon. That's 7 months since surgery and over 30 kg (66 pounds) lost. The attached pic is a selfie taken on the bus home from the Australian movie "Breath" two days ago. A much thinner face but a fair bit of loose chin skin.

    OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE

Contrasting over 11.5 months. First pic in red beanie is from mid-May 2017 ... five months before surgery and about 177kg (390 pounds). BMI = 57.13 Second pic from less than two weeks ago (i.e late April) ... six and a bit months post surgery ... at 131kg (289 pounds) & BMI 42.3. The two pics were taken on the same verandah less than a metre apart 11.5 months time-lapse. Interesting that I happened to be wearing the same sports pullover/top both days. (There's a 'shipload' of spare space in that top now!)

    Anyone else financing?

Your member name defies me. You are not going to have a lap band, surely? The success of gastric sleeve operations in substantially higher than lap band. I'm confused. Please explain.

    Cheating....

I hope you did end up vomiting. It would have helped protect the space around your liver. The temptation must have been horrible but I do hope you have not sabotaged your surgery. It'd be a real tragedy to have the surgeon pull out now or up to the op time.

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

Impressive effort, @DaAlchemist ... in Australia your achievement would be 197.3 kg (435 lbs) down to 145.1 kg (320 lbs) ... So your loss of 52.2 kg (115 pounds) is wonderful. In my case, my (nearly) seven months (12th Oct 2017 to 4th May 2018) has netted 44.3 kg (about 98 lbs) from 174.6 kg (about 385 lbs) to 130.3 kg (287 lbs). I am currently recovering from five weeks of trickle losses. Three days ago my dietitian suggested I make a couple of changes to the timing of my eating. In a short period of about 70 hours, things seem to be getting better. Best wishes for your continuing positive progress.
  9. It may not be a lie. It maybe that one just does not tell "negative" people or naysayers. Seven months ago, 45 kilograms (100 pounds) ago, I just did not want to hear from people who wanted me to try the diet and exercise pathway again. To reiterate what I said (about me) a week before my operation: In my case, I can tell one sibling anything and she's always supportive. Among my social friends, I've told four or five close people and asked them to keep it to themselves as there are almost as many negative opinions about obese people (per se), WLS and dieting. As for work, I have told my boss that I am having time off for surgery with a 2-3 week recuperation period. I have not shared the exact reason but told her that it's related to my hernia, my weight and joint problems. That is truthful enough ... but frees me of the other staff knowing any more. - - - Now, nearly seven months on, when people ask how I achieved my loss (so far), I tell them: "I got a surgical kick start and now I use dieting and exercise." I have the support of an exercise physiologist and the bariatric clinic's senior dietitian, the latter included as part of the sleeve procedure's cost. I see the exercise physiologist every three weeks and the dietitian (monthly now, but originally fortnightly). When (almost all of them) praise my loss or give me a proverbial 'pat on the back', I tell those who are still curious that, in late 2019, my surgeon and I will pursue an 'apronectomy' to remove my excess abdominal and flank skin and stubborn 'hard' fat. - - - Very nice that @Brandeis has had a great experience in telling all and sundry. It's nice that she can be at ease in her family and community. But I also know well the value of the sentiments expressed by @Sosewsue61 in saying that INFORMATION OF A PERSONAL NATURE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SHARED with anyone.
  10. "Great decision. Only a week to go until your life and health begin to improve."
  11. I'm nearly 30 weeks on from surgery. I feel that the restriction I felt before xmas 2017 has diminished somewhat. I used to do about 750 calories per day the first 7 weeks. By January, with a lot of exercise (2-3 hours per day), I was eating 990-1150 calories daily. In the last fortnight, I'm having a lot of 1200-1350 calorie days. My weight has dropped under 1.5kg in the last four weeks ... very slow ... almost at a stall.
  12. Nothing at all. I just spoke up to my family doctor. None ... I should have done this a decade ago. Hindsight says I tried and failed too many times via other methods.

Guys who started over 400 lbs.

Just weighed in today at the exercise physiologist's room at the gym ... registered 130.9 kg (or 384.93 pounds). That's 43.7 kg (or 96.3 pounds) down from 174.6 kg (or 288.58 pounds) on July 17 last year. So, on today, the six month anniversary of my sleeve surgery, Thursday 12th October 2017 to Thursday 12th April 2018, I am very likely to pass the 100 pounds off milestone in the next 7 to 10 days.
  17. 61yo and my six months since gastric sleeve op is tomorrow, Thursday, April 12th.

    Feeling cold

A fairly common post-op manifestation. I'm nearly six months post-op and even on a 32C (88F) day, I wear several layers after I leave the pool and gym. Losing two-thirds of my stomach meant I lost my temperature regulation.

    Comparison

We're all different and have our own quirks and idiosyncrasies. We have similarities but no two gastric-sleevers are EXACTLY alike. Your friends probably need to get over this!

    Wine

About five weeks in my case. I now have about three to five in any given week as part of a daily calorie allowance of 950-1250 calories.

    Weight loss plateau

Sounds like a good time to add an hour swim to your routine at least five days per week. Swimming will tighten and tone you as you stick to your diet. If you can go longer than an hour, then so much better.

    Almost a month

Just ask yourself ... "DOES ANYTHING TASTE AS GOOD AS BEING SLIMMER WILL EVENTUALLY FEEL?" Then repeat the above question again and again ...
  24. You are in the gastric sleeve forums area. (See the GS avatar/symbol in the corner). You need to head to the other appropriate forums. Go to the main page ... here = https://www.bariatricpal.com Then click on the upper-case word FORUMS ... and, lo and behold, a menu opens with six or more choices of surgery types. I hope you end up in the right place soon!
