Thank you for this. I feel very disappointed in myself...feeling like I should have lost so much more by now. Reading this helped. And you're right. I am winning. I never gained back so I didn't really get out of control...and now I'm losing again so that's a huge improvement from what I've done in the past. I'm making progress.

Hey August sleevers!! We are at our 6 month milestone(give or take a few days)! This thread should be buzzing! I opted for the no weigh February until my 6 month surgiversery on the 14th (valentine's yay) then nothing until the end of the month. How is everyone doing? How do you feel at this point? How is life treating you? Have you reached goal? Are you close, halfway? It's crazy it's already been 6 months. I feel as if I'm still in preop doing the 6 month requirements. I know our journeys are our own and we should take pride in all our hard work. Let's share our successes and concerns and rejoice overall. We have come so far

No, for reasons already stated my Dr does not want his patients to stay overnight. Not only that but everyone admitted for surgery and goes under automatically gets labeled as a high fall risk for legal reasons. That means that you are unable to walk or get out of your bed without the assistance of a nurse. Which also means that you do not walk around right after surgery. He prefers to send his patients home due to less rates of infection, more movement, and its generally better for the patient. I actually preferred this method because I slept in my own bed and had my swallow test and was able to eat ice chips not long after coming out of surgery. Wife and I both work in healthcare and trust me you do not want to stay in the hospital longer than you have to!

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!! I am only about 6 months out but I can tell you that there is no way that I miss my larger self....I feel healthier, my blood pressure, A1C, and blood sugar have dropped, cholesterol dropped, pants size dropped from a 48 and really needing to upgrade to a size 50 down to a size 40 and about to drop to a size 38. EVERYTHING has changed for the better. For the first time in my life I am looking forward to summer to be able to go to local amusement parks with the family and actually fit on rides. There have been way more benefits than I have the time to list here. I love the new me and look forward to me taking the rest of my journey wherever that leads. I will have to be perfectly honest and say that sometimes I miss the "indulging" but that is something that I am able to handle and am dealing with. I understand that it is part of my illness and am doing my share to overcome it! I will not return to my prior size, I refuse to give up, and I am proud of my decision!

I've watched every single episode of My 600 pound life at least a half a dozen times.
I put them on in the background when I'm on my elliptical, or walking laps around the house, or just generally trying to be active. They keep me moving.
I love that Dr. Now is extremely compassionate, but also really honest. I love that he gives people multiple chances, but also doesn't accept manipulation and excuses.
Have seen some fascinating people try...and it's pretty hard to play him. He's a smart cookie. I get extreme satisfaction from him telling it like it is, and letting people know he sees through their crazy behaviors. I like that he keeps people accountable. He seems to genuinely care.
He's like my adorable little imaginary weight-loss fairy god father. I think of him saying..."Creekimp, how is your eating habit?" when I'm struggling. Or..."You did well, I'm proud of you!" when the scale moves and I hit my next mini-goal.
I know this post sounds totally goofy...and it is. This is a ridiculous post. A REALLY ridiculous post.
But it's true...I just love Dr. Now. He inspires me.
Think about dedicating your life's work...to helping folks who are so heavy other clinics won't work with them. It takes an amazing person to dedicate their lives to helping a population that other doctors are afraid to work with.
I dunno. I just wanted to sing his praises a minute and admit my goofy secret.... One of my support people...whose no-nonsense approach helps motivate me every single day....is this reality TV doc who doesn't know I exist. LOL.
Thank you Dr. Now. You're wonderful:)

I was buck nekked under my gown, I did wear undies to the hospital they requested that I take everything off prior to surgery. It all got packed into a bag and left with the wife as she waited, once I was done with surgery and released 7 hours later I threw everything back on and went home.

I am a cruise junkie, so once I hit my goal weight I plan on going on a cruise and doing a zip line excursion as well as entering myself into several 5k's in my local area. I plan on living life to the fullest and not letting myself get back to the dark place that I was ever again!

Congratulations on the approval! You will be having surgery tomorrow if everything goes right! I know that you are happy, I am 5 months out and the only thing that I wish is that I would have done it MUCH sooner! Drives me nuts because I used to work for the hospital that I did my surgery. Started working for a another hospital and went through their program and they ended up getting out of bariatrics altogether! Ended up having to go back to the other hospital ( would have gotten a 25% discount with my current employer) but oh well, thats life and at least I am 90 pounds lighter and feeling much better than I was over 6 months ago!! You will be just fine!

I agree completely bro! I am sick of having to pay extra for "Big and Tall" and not having a whole lot of selection! I also want to be able to fit in the rides at Busch Gardens again and be able to ride roller coasters with the kids!! Wife and I also have a cruise scheduled for June 2018 that we have to fly to Seattle for. I am looking forward to being able to get into a seat and have a little bit of room to move around, rather than just barely being able to fasten the seat belt! I am looking forward to being healthier and living longer without knee pain, back pain, hypertension, or a fatty liver!!! Sorry @celticNgel I just can't see myself going to Victorias Secret and getting a nice bra and panty set unless it was for the wife, she would get downright medieval for any other reason!

"Once I get through surgery, my goal is to never touch the trigger foods again."
Man, if it were this simple....wouldn't most of us just set a goal to quit all our trigger foods and not bother with the surgery?
My theory is that you can't run from food. Gotta make peace with it. Get power over it. Gotta face it and get control of it. Otherwise, it still has all the power and you're running away for the rest of your life...powerless.
I'm not saying being able to say no, is powerless....just saying....these foods will still be there. You'll run into them. They might still sing to you.
I guess my question is...why do you think having surgery will make you more able to "never touch trigger foods again?" What happens to your brain during surgery that enables this change of ability?
Not being a jerk, just honestly would like to follow your train of thought.

Yesterday I had a value-sized cup of soft serve from Sonic. I ate it all using the tiniest of bites and tolerated it well. And then this morning I learned I’d lost almost two pounds since yesterday. So suck it.

My friend it sounds like now is the perfect time to seek professional medical care. Please call your surgeon ASAP and tell him/her what is going on, and I am willing to bet that they will get you in ASAP. With the symptoms that you describe that may be several major medical issues.

I really would stay away from any and all rides that have any sort of health advisory on them. At only two weeks out you are still healing and will not be able to ride anything that is extremely "fun" and fast moving. You should be fine with walking around the park, we went to a local amusement park and by the time we were done we did well over 6 miles. Of course I did not ride anything other than the train and sky ride but at least the kids had fun! As far as moving on to the puree stage, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And I am sure that you should be able to find something there that is acceptable, of course you will not be able to have something to puree the food but my advice would be to stick to what the Dr says is acceptable. You should be able to find things in the park that you are allowed to eat such as just a chicken breast and cut it into small bites and chew thoroughly before swallowing. I know that it may not make much sense right now but you may want to take some plastic bags in order to put food in. I know it may sound crazy but trust me you will not even be able to finish a kids meal. I am almost four months out and there is NO way that I can finish a normal chicken breast in one sitting. Depending on what it is I may be able to eat 5 oz of foods that are soft like salad but things like Protein are about 4. (just a fyi) Good luck and please make sure that you have a Blender Bottle and plenty of protein packets with you!!!

I can tell you that you hypertension is likely due to your heredity. I have lost over 80 so far and I am still on meds, I have had to go back to my Dr and get it adjusted because my pressure started getting too low and I was starting to pass out when I would stand up. My surgeon says that my goal weight is about 30-40 more pounds and I will see if I am still on them at that point. But don't sweat the small stuff, the main thing is that you are loosing weight and are definitely healthier than you would have been without the surgery. And just like @JohnnyCakes stated your PCP is the correct person to see, if they were the person that put you on that prescription. If it was another Dr. then you want to go see them, most Dr's will not unprescribed a medication that someone else has prescribed unless there are drug interactions or other immediate health issues.

if it hasn't gone down yet, it likely won't.
assuming you don't smoke, sometimes it's a genetic thing and it's out of your control. you need to get on prescription medication. talk to your doctor. it is quite dangerous to be walking around with for any length of time...

Bhageerah got a reaction from Kiddles in Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the question Why?
I am SO glad that you posted this, if we were neighbors I would give you one heck of a bear hug! I am one that did not tell everyone that I know, I told all of my family that was extremely supportive and a few people at work but not too many! There are three forms of communication, telephone, tell a friend and tell a firefighter! Not being one to have everyone in my business I kept it to down to a couple of people that I can trust at work. A few asked why, and did the same thing about working out and changing your eating habits (we all know the drill). Best friend told me about his sister in law in Brazil that recently had WLS surgery and was regretting it. Tried selling me on a diet that he was on where they limit themselves to minimal calories for two days out of the week and can gorge themselves the other five days. I have no desire to go that way because we all know the road that we go down when we do such things. Rather than be supportive he was actually offensive, we have known each other for over 30 years and I was not happy. I did not say a word but I have a feeling that his wife gave him a ear full because the next day he had changed his tone and was very supportive. I have heard the"Why" question too many times already and it has only been a month to the day. I am past tired of hearing it and know that it is a question that will continue if I continue to inform people of my choice. I am already sick of telling folks about my genetics (most in my family from uncles and cousins on up are WELL above 450lbs) , both of my parents had health issues related to their weight and so do I. I have tried QUITE a few diets and realize that they do not work and it is a matter of lifestyle change. This surgery was a tool for me to use to get healthier and know that what I am doing is adding years, and not just years but quality years onto my life! I am proud of my decision but I do not plan on saying much to many more people as to "why" because I am over answering it especially when those that usually ask it do not have the issues that we have.
