Many insurances require you to be in a Circle of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery Hospital. Not all hospitals qualify for that...it's very specific.
Also, typically, you are not allowed to miss any appointments or you start over from the first day.
Also you should qualify with ins based co-morbidities of diabetes and possibly on high BP if you are on 3 meds for it and it's still high. Otherwise, 36BMI is at the cusp of not getting in. If you have to wait 6 months to do your pre-op visits with the RD, monthly, and you go below 35BMI, you are screwed and will be denied.
That's just from a lay perspective, I am not an insurance specialist. It's a very grueling and stressful process and filled with "Will I's or Won't I's". Keep plugging.

At least you are appreciated!!😃 And I will say that you do not have to share, I only shared with a few people since it really isn't anyones business. But the good thing is that you have taken it on yourself to make a life changing decision! I applaud you for sticking with your plan and leaving the fruit alone! Just stick to the plan and you will find yourself dropping weight in no time!

Bhageerah got a reaction from mousecat88 in Should I buy a scale?
I own a scale, for awhile I did obsess over the number as well as the stalls. That being said if I had it to do over again would I change anything? Absolutely not, if me stepping on a scale every day or several times a day is the worst outcome then it has been a good day! There really wasn't any harm that came from my obsession and to be honest with you the scale also assisted me in keeping some of this weight off so far. I plan on weighing myself several times a week. I am keeping myself accountable and do not plan on getting back up to the weight that I was. The scale is a tool just like the surgery itself, when used properly it can be an asset, when used improperly it can be a hinderance to your progress. Please do not get down on yourself when you hit a stall, it WILL happen, as Dory would say "Just keep swimming" and keep going and working your plan, and you will find yourself loosing again!

So my husband, who is as slim as they come, asked me nicely if I would mind if he did Chic-Fil-A for lunch while we were running errands. I didn’t want to be a drag so I told him sure. Now that is one of my favs. Their waffle fries and chic-fil-a sauce are AMAZING! So I sat and smiled and fought through all the feels while he and our toddlers ate fries and chicken nuggets and a grilled chicken sandwich while I sipped on my Water. It was probably the toughest moment so far Since the surgery. I have to say that I wasn’t that hungry so the hunger pains were minimal but I really wanted to just lick the salt off those fries. When the torture was over I felt like a new woman. I had conquered one of my previously fav fat girl places and I wasn’t angry. I was more like determined that I would never let food define me again. I thought “hey if I eat here in the future the grilled nuggets are an option”. I actually feel pretty darn good. Just thought I share.

I went for a stroll with my coworkers and didn’t hate it, kept up, and wasn’t a hot, sweaty out of breath mess after!

Also- I wear a men’s tee shirt size that’s smaller than my husbands! This hasn’t been the case since the year we met.

It’s things like the above that keep me motivated and going!

I am a newborn baby photographer. Others like myself wrap babies by putting them in their lap. I have never been able to do that because my tummy was to big. I had to use a table or wrap them on the bean bag I use to pose them. TODAY I wrapped the baby on my lap! I almost cried. It was so much easier.

Ran 5k today without stopping - first time in my life I have ever managed to do this with no stops....in under 40 mins :) training for my first 5k event next month - running in memory of my sister (great motivator!), raising money for the hospice that supported her 💕

I have managed to get rid of all of my pre surgery clothes, went on a trip to Alaska and managed to fit in the airplane seat! I have also managed to be able to fit my formerly big behind into any and all roller coasters at the local theme park!!! That alone was an amazing feeling since there were only a few rides that I was small enough to get on. I am currently halfway into working my way up to being able to jog a 5k in less than 25 minutes with my golden doodle and when that happens I will be doing cartwheels! By far one of the best decisions of my life to have this surgery!!

No, for reasons already stated my Dr does not want his patients to stay overnight. Not only that but everyone admitted for surgery and goes under automatically gets labeled as a high fall risk for legal reasons. That means that you are unable to walk or get out of your bed without the assistance of a nurse. Which also means that you do not walk around right after surgery. He prefers to send his patients home due to less rates of infection, more movement, and its generally better for the patient. I actually preferred this method because I slept in my own bed and had my swallow test and was able to eat ice chips not long after coming out of surgery. Wife and I both work in healthcare and trust me you do not want to stay in the hospital longer than you have to!

Ok, I know that this will be TMI but just remember you asked! 😂 As others have stated at 3 months out you should be cleared for just about anything. Keep in mind if you are drinking/eating only 600 calories a day your body is will be consuming more than than to run every day. Its the waste that ends up coming out of the other end, so if you are drinking most of that 600 calories then not much is going to come out the back end. I will say that I am usually eating about 16-1800 calories per day and I typically "go" once per day if that. I have actually started taking several things in order to keep things moving. I take several of those per day as well as several psyllium pills. Please refer to your surgeon for the psyllium, some say its ok and some say no, my surgeon said it was fine and I currently take 3-4 pills daily and they simply work. The only concern is making sure that you drink enough Water as the Fiber in the pills tends to absorb water which can be bad if you do not drink enough water when you take them. I am over a year out and even though I eat plenty of salad, fruit and veggies I still have issues. I also drink well over 100oz of water every day so I am getting plenty of hydration.

I'm relieved and proud of myself that I can go off the deep end with my diet, and then be able to reign myself back in.

    Back from vacation!
Weighed myself first morning after my return, in 12 days, total gain of 4.5 lbs.
I'm okay with this. It is manageable for me to get that back off. It was worth it to be able to fully experience the food culture. (I was in Scotland, btw)
I think the biggest contributing factor to the gain was the liquid calories in beer. I have a lot of restriction, so even eating recklessly my food calories aren't terribly high. But add a couple of pints of beer a day .... yeah ....
The hardest thing is getting myself mentally back on track. I have to make good decisions about what I'm eating, not just because I want it. For instance I ate a pack of airplane peanuts without really thinking. I wasn't hungry, I don't even love peanuts, but I ate them. I regretted it when I logged the 170 calories though.
I also found a new slider food. Soft untoasted bread, like sandwich bread, I can eat a lot of without feeling much restriction.
I also learned that eating fast is a benefit for me. Slow leisurely meals allow me to basically graze, and I end up eating a lot more. I knew this from tapas style meals at home, but with slow European service at restaurants, this happened meal after meal on this trip.
In two months I have another vacation. It will be Pasta, gelato & wine, and I'm going to enjoy every minute of it

I cheat and will continue to cheat, I know that sounds crazy to some but I know that this is a lifelong marathon and not a race. I also know that as long as I watch what I eat, balance things out and not get to crazy that I will be able to moderate any weight gain if any. I now exercise more than I have in a VERY long time and find myself taking the stairs, and simply moving more than I used to. I eat pizza, chips, crackers, and even desert from time to time. I also am sticking to drinking 2-3 Protein Shakes a day two of which are supplemented for meals. I know as long as I keep doing what I am doing (and weighing myself to keep track) I will be ok, I have support around me as well as several others that have had the surgery and we all keep each other on track. I have worked hard to be where I am at and I am not going to let anything out there put the weight back on me!

I am in public safety where Keto is running rampant. There have been quite a few diet preachers that I have dealt with, even my best friend that was pretty unsupportive and was upset because intermittent fasting was working for him. He doesn't realize that we have different genetics. Most of his family is tall and skinny wile mine is short and overweight. I had tried most diets with short term success but he as well as those around me didn't understand that either. It was EXTREMELY aggravating and in the end I made my decision, didn't tell hardly anyone and know that I made the right choice for me. Everyone says that I look amazing and I feel amazing, you just have to know that you made the best choice for you and that it is your life not theirs!
