  1. Wow, how interesting! Thanks so much for sharing this information!

I am definitely going to do some additional research and bring this up at my next appointment.

Are you actually able to eat the specified amounts on your plan? I ask because, me personally, I am not able to get up to 600 calories right now as I am always full from meals, Water, shakes and am constantly drinking something to meet Fluid and Protein requirements.

My portion sizes have slightly increased from 1ounces to 1.5 ounces, but I cannot tolerate any more than that currently.

Im two months out, but I'm not sure this is my first stall or not as I don't check my weight often, I only found out because I had to check it at my primary doctor appointment. My first goal is to me under 200 so I can get off a Med I hate

So far I have only lost 28 since surgery which seems slow/ low

So I'm going back to bare basics and going as high Protein as possible.

It's very hard to get enough cals in early on I'm still only at about 700 but I realized I was eating too fast (10 mins as opposed to 30 mins ) so I was hurting myself in that area.

I'm going slow picking easy to eat Protein rich foods (cheese, yogurt, peanuts, shakes again ) instead of forcing dense chicken when I'll probably won't be able to tolerate it for a while

And trying really hard to get at least 64oz Water in.

    28lbs in 2 months is fantastic! That's (3) 10lb bags of potatoes!

Getting under 200lbs is my first goal as well! I totally understand the struggle of getting additional cals in between meeting Fluid requirements, Protein Shake requirements and making sure it's spaced out with meals. I feel like all I do is drink all day.

My meal plan progressed through the stages rather quickly and I was eating pureed ground turkey at day 3 post-op. I've tried chicken recently---chicken thighs and legs and as long as it is moist, I'm good. I know I cannot due chicken breasts for awhile unless it's been in the slow cooker in some sort of sauce.

What I've been doing to make my ground turkey more moist (I do not blend/puree it anymore), is adding a chicken Bone Broth supplement to it (I guess it's like chicken stock) and it's additional an 15 grams of protein and tastes really good!

  3. Congratulations!

I personally didn't use much of what I packed including gas-x strips, chapstick, etc. I didn't even use my cellphone since I was knocked out from the IV Phenergan.

Before you are discharged don't forget to ask your nurse about bringing home extra 1 oz medicine cups! Those little things are pretty helpful!

I found having things like a fleece blanket and fleece sweater helpful in the comfort aspect of things.

Also, I completely forgot about popsicles my 1st week post-op---don't do this. When I did remember about them, they of course were AMAZING.

    Good luck!

Everyone say try as hard as you can to increase Protein which is hard but perhaps add Protein Powder to the milk, etc .

Let us know when it does break!

I'm stalled too so I feel your pain

I did not expect to stall this early out and it makes me question if whether or not I will lose the 1-2 lbs/week my team expects us to lose.

I am having a hard time getting to 600 cals/day, but will definitely try increasing my Protein intake, thank you!

Is this your first stall? How far out are you?

I know the feeling. Its frustrating but your doing what your supposed to do and your very organized and keeping track of everything. This will pass. At least according to my aunt who had a similar experience this is normal. Tomorrow I have a follow up with my Surgeon. Will post a update.

    Looking forward to your update!

I feel the three week Stall pain....been there the last couple of weeks.

Stall broke and I lost four and a half pounds in the last two days. Just suddenly. It happens...the legends are true:)

I'm 5 weeks post op and eating 1000-1200 calories a day, tolerating more foods, and have a lot of energy.

    Feeling really good:)

Wishing you all a quick end to the stall:) It'll happen.

(someone asked for my stats on another thread...don't know if this is helpful to anyone, but figured it was on topic.)

    Started at 270 in June.

Lost 30 pounds in 6 months of pre-surg diet visits using the mayo Clinic Diet mostly. (240)

Lost 10 pounds in 2 week pre-surg liquid diet. (230)

Lost 14 pounds first month after surgery. (216 today)

So, I lost 23% of my excess body weight the first month (60 pounds excess weight on day of surgery)....which beats the heck out of the 18% that is the average first month weight loss. Feeling positive!

Wow! Thank you for sharing your stats and Congratulations on such a big loss!

Can you please give us an idea of what a typical day of eating looks like for you to get to 1000-1200 cals/day at 5 weeks post-op?

I am 3 weeks post-op and just recently upped my calories to mid 500s (previously 400s) and am having a heck of a time getting up to 600 cals/day due to meeting the Fluid requirements and appropriately spacing out my 1-1.5 oz meals 3 times a day.

Had Gastric Sleeve done on Dec. 18 , 2017, when I started this journey I was 211- 209 lbs. Day of Surgery 199 and post OP I am 189.4. I have been walking and biking over 1 hour a day. Taking weekends off. Following my nutrionist advice but having a hard time getting all the Water in. I have stalled in any weight loss for nearly 1 week and a half. I'm feeling discouraged. I did get my period 4 days ago. I have been off insulin since the surgery date. My glucose levels are monitored 24/7 as I wear a monitor. I have been suffering with low blood sugar going into 40's and 50's a few times this week and last week almost 3 times a day. Need advice.

I also had surgery on 12-18 and also posted today about not losing anything these past 2 weeks!

My weight the day of surgery was 226.2 lbs and I lost 12lbs the first week. I have lost and gained 1 lb the last 14-15 days.

    I am:
    • Tracking in MyFitnessPal and getting in 60-65 grams of protein/day
    • BM’s are regular and has been very early on
    • Fluid intake is consistently 64 fl oz. & more and has been very early on
    • Portion sizes are from 1 oz. - 1.5 oz. I am eating 3 meals/day and drinking 1/2 Protein Shake between Breakfast & lunch and the other 1/2 between lunch & dinner, drinking Fairlife milk 2% a couple of hours after dinner (supposed to be 1% but it was not available that day in grocery)
    • Calories were previously in the 400s and I have increased this week to the mid 500s

I just don't know what I can do differently. I have been told by my team the expectation is to lose 1-2lbs/week and am nervous it won't happen since I am this early out and have not lost a lot.

    I guess we'll see.....

I hit the three weeks stall...and had been stuck for almost two weeks. Was making me crazy. Totally empathize with those hitting one. Man, it's frustrating!

Got my period yesterday and lost two pounds...and woke up this morning another two and a half pounds down!

Not an ounce for two weeks....then, BOOM!...four and a half pounds. The legends are true!

Be consistent, be patient. Your hard work IS counting...I promise. scale just needs a minute to catch up:)

Man oh man, are you right---totally frustrating. I have PCOS, so I haven't gotten a regular period in > 6 months. And had a heck of an experience with post-op blood thinners and vaginal bleeding OR menstruating last week (I say "or" because the minute I stopped blood thinners, I stopped bleeding).

Thank you for replying and sharing your experience! Fingers crossed my drop comes soon!

    Thanks again :)

I'm not due for surgery for 5 days so take this with a grain of salt. I have seen many many people lament over the "week 3 stall" so it seems you aren't alone. Word on the street is that that you are losing inches during these stalls. Grab your tape measure and see if you numbers have changed. If you are doing everything right it will pass! Good luck!

    Thank you for replying!

I have also read about the infamous "3-week stall". The only thing is, I haven't lost anything at 2 weeks post-op in addition to week 3 : /

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!!!

  10. Hi all-
My weight the day of surgery was 226.2lbs
    Week 1 post-op- I lost 12 lbs

    Weeks 2 & 3 I lost and regained the same 1 pound.
I am getting concerned that it has been 14-15 days with no loss and I will be 4 weeks post-op next week and I am stuck.
I am looking for some suggestions.
    Thank you!

  11. I was self-pay, so I didn't have to meet insurance requirements. I didn't do much of a pre-op diet either.

Two days before surgery, my "last meal" was divine--- it was Thai food. Red chicken curry with mixed vegetables, a taste of drunken noodles and to finish things off the right way, one scoop of carvel ice cream in the flavor, "Cookie Butter"!

I was a little paranoid to eat my "last meal" the day before surgery as I felt it was too close and kept things pretty mild the day and night before.

  12. I was also sleeved on 12/18. When I got home from the hospital and weighed myself, I gained 4.8lbs. My second day home and after peeing A TON, ended up dropping 7lbs ---- of course, mostly Water. I also struggle with weighing myself too much and will be attempting to just pick one day to weigh myself and keeping the scale completely out-of- sight until the next time, for temptation-sake. Happy Holidays!

I think a lot of plans emphasize Fluid the first week because Fluid is so important. Dehydration is the primary reason people end up in the ER post surgery...so I can understand that emphasis.

Try high Protein oatmeal, add some Protein Powder to cream of wheat or cocoa wheats, use a whey Protein Shake for creamer in your Decaf coffee.....lot of great strategies to get your Protein in.

Sounds like you're having really good luck and an easy time of it. That's worth being thankful for.

I tried protein oatmeal yesterday and it was fantastic! And you're absolutely right, thank you!

Your post-op progression is not at all unreasonable, and is consistent with what the more experienced sleeve/DS practices do. Both my wife and I were on soft/mushy/puree in the hospital (as tolerated). Some patients may stay on more liquids longer depending upon how much inflammation they have in the stomach. My wife was slower to progress than I was, but within the normal expectations for the program.

If your Protein requirements are only 40g, which is on the low side (typically 50-60g minimum for smaller women,) I would certainly use something better than GENEPRO, as that stuff, at best, is substantially overstated in its' Protein content.

Thank you so much! I've been concerned that I am progressing too fast. After hearing about you and your wife's similar plan, it certainly helps.

What did you eat during your soft/mushy/puree stage? Did you have vegetables?

Any recommendations other GENEPRO? One thing I really like about Genepro is that there is no after-taste and that the protein scoop is not HUGE.

  15. Since I'm still pretty early out I use a mini food-processor for a more fine consistency of oatmeal. But anyways, I add a dash of cinnamon to dry oatmeal, 1 scoop of unflavored GENEPRO Protein powder, 1/2 pack Truvia, stir thoroughly so everything gets incorporated. I then add 1% milk and cook in microwave. As soon as it comes out, I add a small amount of vanilla extract and stir. It is SO good. No aftertaste at all, and it is creamy.

  16. Hi all-

My surgeon's post-op plan allows 1-2oz pureed/mushy soft, high Protein meals at days 3-14. For example: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna, ground chicken and ground turkey.

The "pureed/mushy" phase is combined and there is no separation regarding pureed vs mushy foods.

I am almost 5 days post-op from VSG and so far, so good.

I've had Soup that's been pureed, greek yogurt with 1/2 slice of canned peach (in fruit juice, not syrup) pureed, canned chicken salad. There have been ZERO issues in terms of nausea/vomiting/discomfort and my serving size is 1oz at a time.

I am close to meeting fluids goals and am hovering around 55 fl. oz/day.

Still working on meeting 40mg protein/day requirement and am drinking one supplement shake/day and using GENEPRO too.

Overall I just feel hesitant about my eating. My concern is that I see there is quite a variation of post-op diet plans and most people are on liquids/full liquids for some time immediately post-op and my plan allows me to sorta bypass that stage. I will be sure to bring-up my concerns at my 1st follow-up appt. next week, but for the time being should I just continue doing what I am doing since I've had no issues.....yet?

  17. I've tried looking for some immediate post-op food ideas and have come across a lot of information for people further post-op (for example 7 weeks) but not for much immediately post-op. I understand everyone's post-op diet varies and am trying to figure out what I can prepare/meal prep before surgery for post-op.

    My surgeon's post-op plan :

    Day 1- no food

Day 2-no food. Water, ice chips, SF fluids, broth, Decaf coffee/tea, SF ice pops.

Days 3-14 1-2oz pureed (mushy) soft, high Protein meals. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, canned tuna, ground chicken and ground turkey. From what I've read, not very many people start mushy or pureed foods at 3 days post-op....

    Just looking for some ideas.

  18. Hi all!

I am self-pay and am scheduled to be sleeved soon by Dr.Wizman and wanted to hear other's experiences in regards to the hospital stay.

    1. Which hospital did you have surgery at? Coral Springs or Aventura.

    2. Private-room or shared?

    3. Is there a specific Bariatric floor/wing of the hospital?

    4. How long were you in the hospital for?

A family member will be staying with me and is not wanting to stay at a near-by hotel as they are concerned with this being my first surgical procedure ever and I am trying to figure out the logistics of everything.

    Thanks!

This is a lady who flew down from up north and had her sleeve performed by Dr. S. Same procedure, same hospital, same self-pay as me. Watching this before really helped me to know exactly what to expect.

    Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your experience and the video!

How long were you in the hospital for?

Was a leak test performed post-operatively before discharge from the hospital?

The self pay package comes with 3 days, 2 nights, but they try to get you home on day 2, saying you heal better at home. I checked in at 7, surgery at 9, and went home around 2 the next day. So about 31 hours?

I had the blue dye test in the OR. Dr Taggar told me they haven't found much value in post op swallow tests, so they don't do them. I also like their diet plan. Because my bmi was below 37, I didn't really have a preop diet. But I did 3 shakes a day, plus a lean green meal. Post op, we started purees including ground turkey/chicken on day 3-14, regular texture meats day 15-30ish (plus beans) and red meat/veggies after that. I felt like it was so much more doable than some of the other plans I read about.

Thank you again! Good luck to you!

I used Dr wizman's partner, Dr Taggar. Their self pay price was $8899. I used coral springs medical center, but I think Dr wizman also does surgeries at Northwest.

I couldn't be happier with my experience. The coordinators are busy, but I was persistent and had all my questions answered. I also learned they can be flexible on some preop testing based on different factors. They originally asked for h pylori, but then waived it. Another gal had the psycheval waived. I traveled from SC, had surgery on Friday 8/11,had a follow up Monday, then sat in the car 10 hours home.

So, I know I didn't answer your question, but I wanted to share my experience with Dr wizman's office. I think my whole process was 3.5 weeks from consult to surgery.

    Best wishes!
