  1. They use to take it out everytime but not anymore. Yet, like I stated rapid weight loss is a common cause of gallbladder stones. Thus, it is more than likely that you don't have anything wrong with your gallbladder when you are getting your surgery but you will in 6 months. This is a very common problem among people who have weight loss surgery. I know the surgeon may not remove it upon request but at least talk about it and familiarize yourself with the symptoms. The pain is horrible!
  2. I had my bariatric bypass done about 7 months ago. I have lost about 85 pounds and everything has gone really well except that I still have trouble eating certain foods. A few days ago I suddenly got very severe stomach pain. First I thought that I just had too much to eat but the pain got really bad really quickly and I had to be rushed to the nearest hospital. It turned out that I had developed gallbladder stones and a few of them had traveled to my pancreas and caused a severe inflammation. My gallbladder was full of stones and had to be surgically removed. My surgery was 2 days ago and still my liver and pancreas blood work numbers are really bad. I am writing this to you to warn other people. I learnt that rapid weight loss often causes gallbladder stones and because of this surgeons used to remove gallbladder everytime they did bariatric bypass. Now since my gallbladder has been removed it is going to be somewhat harder for me to digest fatty food (not that I ate so much of them anyway) and I am afraid that a few of these sones are still floating around inside of me and may cause problems if they land on a place where they can block a way to pancreas etc. The pain associated with this problem was the worst pain I have every experiences. I gave birth to two boys without making a sound but I was screaming all the way to the hospital a few days ago. Please be smarter than me and ask your surgeon to remove your gallbladder during the bypass if possible. This organ is not necessary and can cause huge problems for you if you lose the weight fast like I did and can even cause life treatening infections in vital organs like liver, and heart. I am not writing this to scare people unnecessarily but to educate all of you so you don' t have to experience this.
  3. Funny how I have forgotten how much I was able to eat in the beginning but 6 month after my bypass I am still only able to eat about half a cup and many, many times I am able to eat only a spoonful or two and vomiting is quite common. I was severely dehydrated according to my doctor during the first 3-4 months. I am able to drink OK now and I am deeply grateful about that, but I am getting worried that I will continue my weight loss even when I don't want to anymore simply because I am unable to eat enough.

6 weeks post op and sick of soup

It has been 60 mo since my bypass and I still feel nauseated quite often. Bread, red meat etc. Can't even think about such food. Mashed potatoes and canned tuna was my lunch and dinner for quite some time. And the portions were tiny. At 6 weeks I most certainly wasn't even trying to eat actual solid food.
  5. I would tell him. You have had 5 dates. Obviously he does not love you yet at this point and superficial things like this could be a deal breaker to some people. Wouldn't you rather have him disappear on you before than after sex. And you can tell a lot by how he reacts. If he says that it is no big deal and comments that he doesn't have a perfect body either you know that he is a keeper!

    My tummy loves unhealthy food!

I saw my doc today. I was told that I am severely dehydrated and I have protein in my urine due to the dehydration. It is really hard to get enough liquids inside me when I feel nauseated or vomit all the time. I have decided to give up on eating solids for now in order to get more proteins and liquids. I really hope that I begin to tolerate food better soon.
  7. It has been a little over 2 months since my bypass surgery. I thought that I would have a hard time eating unhealthy stuff like cookies but would be able to tolerate small amounts of meat etc at this point. This is not the case. If I eat even a little bit of chicken, or fish I will be sick for hours and vomiting all the time. I cannot tolerate any pasta, bread, or salad either. Yet, I have no problem eating a cookie. I was hoping that I could follow a healthy diet that would consist of things like grilled salmon with vegetables but no, my tummy loves mashed potatoes and cookies! I don't know what to do anymore. Should I take a step backwards and start drinking protein soups again? I am concerned that I am not getting enough proteins. I have lost about 40 pounds so far and I am happy about that. It is only that I am having such a hard time finding lunch options that would not make me vomit.

    September Bypass Buddies

I have had an easy recovery. Very few problems. I have lost about 40 pounds in less than 2 month and I am pretty happy with that. I keep losing about 2.5 pounds per week. I have discovered that soups are my best friend and that I cannot tolerate anything with added sugar. I cannot handle red meat either unless it is meatball or something extremely soft like that. My typical lunch is two spoonful of mashed potatoes with a spoonful or two of canned tuna or a half a cup of chicken soup. I don't really have any desire to eat cakes and candies because I know that it won't end well. I love this! This is the reason I chose bypass.

    September Bypass Buddies

I am so sorry to hear this! I hope it is going to be an easier road from now on. My experience around the same time and the very same city was so different than yours. I am glad that you were able to stay positive!
  11. Hmm that makes sense although it still makes me wonder why is removed in sleeve then..
  12. I had my surgery with Pompeii Surgical and I have nothing but positive things to say about them. Dr. Quinones was excellent and I was walking around 2 hours after my bypass. The clinic was very clean and I felt really safe there. What truly was amazing was how well the patient coordination team and especially Debbie took care of me and my teen son who accompanied me. He was taken out shopping etc. so he didn't get bored. After 2 days in the clinic we spent a few days in an ocean front villa that had all the food I needed and I got trained in what to eat etc. They visited us 2 times a day to make sure we were ok. I returned home on Wednesday last week and they have called me several times since then. All this for $5,500. They gave me a surgery date 3 weeks from when I contacted them first. Cannot recommend them enough.

    Hair loss

Were you able to to find bariatric Biotin somewhere? I am worried about taking pills one week from the opp.
  14. According to the references I found, gastric bypass can be reversed for medical reasons alone and even in those cases the risks are very high. See e.g. http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/explainer/2010/02/can_bariatric_surgery_be_reversed.html Thus, I believe that the doctors don't leave the unused parts there for the possibility of reversing it. The reasons must be something else. Those of you who are still planning, please ask your docs, I would really love to know.
  15. According to my knowledge this surgery cannot be reversed. ALso, most of the hormones in this unused area are there to make you feel hungrier, so I can certainly live without them. If they were that significant, then why would they remove this section is sleeve. So confused..
