  1. I’m right there with you. I’m two years out from a sleeve and have gained so much back. Going to reset and try to get my focus back to eating correctly. It’s so hard. This year has been bad but especially bad personally which I’ve used as an excuse.
We’ve done this before. We can get back on track again.

  2. I know this is stupid but tomorrow I'm one week post-op and I just realized today I haven't sneezed yet. Ever since I thought about this I'm terrified that I'm going to and that it's going to be so painful! So, tell me about your post-op sneezing experiences

Was no big deal. I held a pillow to my belly just in case but it didn’t hurt.

  3. I am so sorry. (((HUG))) They are definitely a member of the family.

Thank you. It’s been really rough these few days without him but I’m staying busy and trying very hard to stay focused so I can avoid the emotional eating. He was my best secret keeper for almost 16 years.

My sweet ole man Sunny. 15 years old and still going.

Unfortunately I just lost him this past Saturday. 1 month before turning 16. He was an amazing baby dog. I miss him so much.

  5. Same thing happened to me when I had to go to the ER to get fluids for dehydration. The ER doctor said “why did you choose something so drastic? You’re not that big.” It was very awkward and all I could think to say (mainly because I was shocked it was coming from a medical doctor) was, “well because I qualified for it medically and it was my choice.” I didn’t feel any need to explain any choice I made about my future health and self beyond that point.

  6. Thank you for asking WildcatGirl71. Since using the spirometer I'm doing much better. Was able to walk 1 mile yesterday and today. I still feel some restriction but it's much better than it was so I'll continue using it until I'm told not to. I'm officially 6 days out and didn't even take any Tylenol today. I'm not saying there isn't pain, but not enough I need pain meds. I'm doing much better than I expected to be at this point.

Awesome!! Glad your pain is subsiding and you’re able to breathe better. Walking is great to break up that gas pain. Mine was horrible. Took about a week and a half for it to finally go away.

  7. hang in there Miz60 it gets so much better very soon.
If you have not discussed that elliptical with your surgeon you might just skip it till your follow up appt.
Just walk as much as you can everyday till you get released for more intensive workouts.

^^ agree! I wasn’t allowed to use my elliptical until after I saw my surgeon.

  8. So my boss and coworkers know I am going to have gastric bypass. They have been very supportive and understanding if I needed to take time off work for my appointments. A couple of weeks ago my boss told me when “good times” would be to have surgery and I said okay. Just the other day my boss came back to talk about my surgery and now wants me to wait an additional month to have surgery due to things that are going on at work. I don’t have my surgery date yet but will get it next week when I meet with my surgeon again.
During a meeting with our little department my boss made a point that my surgery is elective so maybe I should just wait until this fall to have surgery.
I don’t think it’s fair for my boss to tell me when I can have surgery. I believe that my surgery date should be between me and my surgeon.
Am I being overly sensitive about this? I talked to my mom about it since she had this surgery about 8 years ago. She said that I need to keep things private and not speak to anyone but HR at my work about my surgery.
    Thoughts?

Your boss has no right to dictate when you should have your surgery. It may be elective but it’s still medically necessary. If you needed heart bypass surgery, would he tell you to put it off until the fall when it would be easier on him? I agree with your mom. When you and your surgeon have a date, I would submit your time off to HR and make sure all correspondence with your boss has HR copied for your protection. Good luck!

  9. So i posted this yesterday that one of my incision sites is red and hard right above my belly button area. It’s the only one that hurts and today I’m off my pain meds and I called the doctor to make sure it’s ok and she said yes, it could be because he did the most work there. Well being the nut case that i am i emailed them this afternoon a picture of it and they showed the doctor and he said it’s definitely not infected that it’s normal and there is a stitch underneath that could be hurting as well. Well right now I’m miserable and in lots of pain and I can’t sleep at night and I feel so defeated that all I want to do is cry. I need some support from my fellow peers.

Is this a new pain or been consistently painful since surgery? I was told any new pain to make an appt to be seen.
My big incision is to the right of my belly button and it hurt like crazy. Every time I moved it felt like everything was ripping out. I bought a stomach binder (like what would be worn after a c-section) from Amazon and it has been a life saver! Something about the right amount of pressure just helped. Also some liquid Tylenol helped so I could stay away from the narc meds.

  10. Thank you SO much!!! I was doing it wrong. Thank God for you and this forum! You would think they would have put instructions with it into my bag to go home from the hospital. Nope. I’ve already lost a few days but I’ll do what I can. I’m sure this is also why I’m so tired and foggy. I really appreciate your help!

You’re so very welcome! It really helps strengthen your lungs! Pray you’re feeling better soon.

  11. They put some blue thing in my bag to go home with me that looks like some breathing thing. They either didn’t show me how to use it or I don’t remember. . I tried breathing hard in order to push what’s inside up the tube but I can’t get it to budge. Am I doing it wrong? How long and how often am I supposed to be doing this? 5 minutes 3 times a day for instance?

You suck in and the goal is to get the ball to the top - do it at least 10xs a day.

  12. Sleeved 5/3 and I haven’t been able to take a deep breath or talk loud since. Of course, I am breathing, just hurts in center of chest if I try to take a deep breath. I’ve been too tired to do the walking. I did finally walk for 10 minutes today but had to stop and rest twice. Nothing but Tylenol since 5/4 but still feeling weak and mentally foggy. Any thoughts appreciated! I am 65 so I’ve been chalking it up to my age.

Are you using your spirometer? That helped me breath better and deeper after surgery. It helps the lungs to clear also so pneumonia doesn’t set in. I used mine for 2 weeks after surgery.

  13. I always seem to “come to” mentally later than physically after surgeries. Like I feel like I wake up in the middle of a conversation, already alert and sitting up and mid sentence. So clearly I’ve already been awake!

Case in point once when I had wrist surgery the doc came in and gave me the full report of how it went (there were some issues).... never remembered having the conversation. After my plastics I literally first became aware of things while sitting up and mid sentence with DH and my surgeon!

Makes me wonder what I’ve unknowingly said!

I’m the exact same way. My husband told me I kept asking the same question over and over. The dr just laughed a little assured my husband everything went perfectly. To this day - I remember nothing. Lol

  14. I have a surgery 05/23/18 for sleeve . I am very nervous , I have allergies almost to anything from food to seasonal year round allergies.Does someone know of anybody being allergic to the titanium staples ? I know i sound weird but it is something that is bothering me ,like in worst case scenario what back up do they have instead of using the titanium staples ?

This is something you should speak to your surgeon about. I don’t know if they can test you for an allergy to titanium but it’s worth asking, especially if you are concerned.
I asked my surgeon the same question and he told me he’s never known of anyone who had allergy or rejection issues with the titanium material but that is limited to his patients.
