  1. Update on my massive hair loss.....7 months post surgery and the Hair loss has stopped!! THANK GOD. It started about 3 months post surgery. I was losing hair like I was on chemo. Was taking Multi Vitamins, 10,000mg of Biotin and using Biotin spray on my scalp and somehow, the combination of this all worked. My hair is growing like mad now :) I told my surgeon that they really need to be more vocal to pre surgery patients that this is one of the post surgery side affects for some patients.

I’m not sure what I’ll drink if I start again. Beer and carbonated mixers are out, wine makes me sleepy, and I can’t drink martinis for several hours.

2 weeks. I tolerate much less which is ok. I drink a single shot of vodka in a tall Water with ice and lime - and I add sugar free powdered drink mix (found some margarita flavored), or a glass of cabernet. I gave up diet coke - that was hard enough LOL

Mine is still going on too. I’m blessed that I started with long, thick hair but it’s driving me crazy!!!! Wondering when it will stop. Not sure what will make it better

Sleeved 8/25. I have seriously lost half my hair (it is waist length), but it is slowing down. Im talking long strands like from the roots, not breakage. My sister in law had this happen after surgery too and told me it will stop, but as to when, everyone is different. I still get a brush full every morning, but FINALLY it is less when I run my hands thru it. I am taking 10,000mcg Biotin every day, spraying my head with Nutri Ox and using Nutri Ox Shampoo. I tried Keranique but Nutri is cheaper and I can get it locally at Sally Beauty. I do have a halo extension piece I can wear too.

  6. While I am truly jumping up and down for all of you who are being successful, I am only down 40 pounds since surgery (8/25), and have been stalled for 2 months. I knew surgery was not a miracle answer going into it. I hate the gym, have bad knees, and have a sedentary job. I have tried all sorts of exercise, and have never found one that excites me except kick boxing - which caused me to have back surgery...... I really need to get back on track. I definitely eat less than I used to, but am eating what I want. Soooooo, its all on me to turn it around. Owning it is the first step right?

    Hi,

i have sleeve surgery planned for the 15th of feb 2018. I have a few questions to the lovely post op members.

    1. I want to give up or at least massively cut down on alcohol post op. However I love going out and socialising. What do you drink on a night out with no gas, no alcohol and no (very few) calories? A night out on Water is a bit boring!!

    2. I have been active in the past running 3-10 miles 3-4 times a week. I have done very little exercise for the past 6months. But I really want to get into ultra fitness post op (obviously not the day after!!) Iron man, ultra marathon that kind of thing. How long did it take before you could do any kind of fitness training? Are there issues with getting the right nutrients for that level of sport?

    3. How do you deal with situations where you get offered food and drink? I find I eat and drink stuff I don’t really want sometimes because I can’t stand the “what you pregnant or something” “don’t be boring” “ why you not eating? On a diet or something? You don’t need to go on a diet what you need to do is...(que rubbish advice that you don’t want to discuss)” I don’t want to tell people about my surgery so how will still be able to go out socially without all the questions?

    Thankyou in advance. :-)

Im a vodka girl, and have found that I can only tolerate one or two post surgery. I gave up diet coke which was hard enough ( Im surprised that I have only craved it once in 5 months - did NOT give in). So, I order a single shot of vodka in a tall glass with Water, ice and lime. Then I add Chrystal Light or another sugar free powdered drink mix to it (lemonade, cranberry, or margarita (get on Amazon) . Nobody has ever commented or forbid me to mix my own at a bar or restaurant cuz I am paying for the vodka.

  8. Giving up diet coke was hard enough........ I don't drink that much, but when I do, I have a glass of Cabernet, or I have Vodka and Water over ice and add Crystal Light or this sugar free Margarita mix I found on Amazon. I carry sugar free drink mix wherever I go, and have never had an issue using it in bars or restaurants. I do feel the effects sooner than pre surgery, so am careful. Everything in moderation :)

Mine is long and very thick. It's freaking me out.

OMG Girl, me too..... My Dr told me there is nothing we can do about it....I am in mourning, but I refuse to cut it. I just got a halo hair extension and am wearing it. I am trying Keranique and a Biotin spray and Shampoo I got at Sally Beauty. Plus I up'd my Biotin to 1000mg/day along with a multi Vitamin. My surgeon and my PCP told me it has nothing to do with Protein. Your body goes into suspension during surgery. It is just part of the process (said by people who are not losing their hair)

  10. Thank you everyone. I will keep everyone posted as I go thru the Journey and will post if the Keranique works. I have been taking mega Vitamins and Biotin since long before surgery and it is not helping. Also, this isnt my first surgery. I never had this type of Hair loss with my other surgeries . My husband has not noticed and is a gem - he has male patterned baldness and said we can get matching hats. hahahaha Love him

  11. I had surgery on 8/25 and now 3 months later, my hair is falling out like I'm on chemo....ltons of long strands from the root are falling out daily. The doctor told me yesterday that no Biotin or Vitamins are going to help. She said it is going to get very very thin and suggested I cut my hair! I cried. I have long, thick hair, and am praying that I don't go bald. I just ordered the Keranique serum, and am hoping it helps. Any suggestions would be welcome......

I had surgery Jan this year. Almost a year out. Yes you will loose your hair but it's temporary. I have long thick, curly hair and I am horrified BUT you MUST Buy Keranique !! Monthly subscription l! Not kidding after the first month my hair was so full! Couldn't tell I had Hair loss and as the months go on my hair will start to grow back and it is two months and I see the difference. I went to a dermatologist and he said don't worry it will grow back.

I also take Sugarbear gummy vitamins. So tasty and proven results. It's for hair.

So I just got my surgery date set for December 8th and I am very excited and very nervous to get the bypass. One thing I have been struggling with is finding a good Protein Shake. For some reason I have always had a hard time drinking these. Usually get a bad stomach cramp after. This is making me very worried as this is my only source of nourishment very soon. Has any found one that they really like or maybe have been in a similar situation. Thank you for any help.

I love the Premier Protein Carmel flavor. I even use it as Creamer in my coffee!

I’m 5 days post op and granted I haven’t been on the top of the moon lately because I’m in a lot of pain and I’m naturally on all liquids and less than 300 calories per day however my husband has not changed his eating habits not even a tiny bit since I got home. He will sit right beside me on the couch and eat ho ho’s, Peanut Butter Cookies, chips, peanuts, cheese burgers, candy, Burger King etc. etc. I finally looked at him today and said “don’t you have any consideration around what I’m going through right now? Can you maybe eat this in the kitchen and not 5 inches from my face (literally) and he looks at me and tells me just because I changed my life doesn’t mean he is changing his and to pretty much get over it. I’m so upset like on the verge of crying upset because my husband and I are best friends it’s not like we have had a bad relationship we love each other more than life but he has been so insensitive since I came out of surgery that it’s just mind boggling. Has anyone else dealt with this with their spouse??? Any advice would be more than appreciated.

The pre/post op liquid phase is very difficult, but you will get thru it!! My fiance offered to eat dinner before he came home at night so he would not "bother" me (one reason why I love this man so much), and I said "No". I didn't want him to alter his life in anyway - this is my journey. We have had a few struggles (like pizza night - his favorite food), and ordering when we go out to restaurants, but I have learned to adjust and plan. Like when we take road trips, he runs thru a drive thru - I pack a mini cooler with Protein Shakes, yogurt and cottage cheese. If you don't, you could end up in trouble eating something that is not good. When he is on the couch eating cheese and crackers (his nightly 8pm snack), he brings me a sugar free popsicle which is one of my "go to's". Re the pizza thing, I eat the toppings, or I eat something else. And cooking is a breeze because we grill allot. When we go out, I drink a Protein Shake before we go and then have a bite of his food, or order Soup. If he has a problem with any of this, he doesn't tell me (and if he did, that's on him).

Ooooo the best thing happened when we were going to dinner at a family members house who loves to feed people. I was worried, and my fiance came up with a plan that was genius. I ate before we went , and we each took a plate for the buffet. He put half of the food he wanted on his plate, and I put the other half of what HE wanted on mine. He then ate everything on his, and then started eating off my plate. Hahahaha. Nobody said a thing!

Keep in mind that people who do not struggle with weight issues don't get it! He was probably not even aware how hard this is on you.

How much time off of work should I plan to take after the surgery? Some people say 1 week and some are even saying up to 6 weeks.

    Tiffany

I had my surgery on Friday and could have gone back to work on the following Tuesday, but I had a drain. Once the drain was removed (7 days post op), I was feeling like a million bucks and went back! I have a desk job.

It IS interesting how everyones plans can be so different.

Never heard that re 20 minutes. And chewing each bite for 2 minutes is craziness.
