  1. Hi all, my surgery is scheduled for August 25th. I have a desk job. How long was it before you all went back to work? Is it unrealistic for me to think that I can return after 10 days?

    Aug 25 Post Op Update

Ok, so to continue my journey, I am 4 days post op and my drain is still working over time Im not concerned, but can't go back to work until its removed. After having little to no pain, this morning I noticed pain on my right side - like a stabbing pain. I have to hold my stomach when I walk for any relief. Seeing as most of my stomach was sliced off, I am assuming that now that the swelling is going down, some of this is "normal". Its definitely NOT gas pains. I don't like taking the liquid pain meds so am taking tylenol only. Liquids are going down no problem. Energy level is up, and Im looking forward to Protein shakes on Friday.
  4. Hi all. I'm home from the hospital and wanted to send an update. Surgery went great and I was up walking 2 laps of my floor last night. The nurse said she had never seen anyone do as well as me. She said my positive and excited attitude surely helped! My pain never got above 2 or 3 and I needed very little pain meds. I'm off them now and don't even feel the need for Tylenol. Last night 3 ice chips made me nauseated, but today I kept down about 4 oz of liquids. I do have a drain in my abdomen that will not come out until next Thursday (ick) and I have to give myself anti blood clot shots daily for 2 weeks, but they are not as scary as I thought they would be. Now I just need the gas to pass (pun intended). All said and done, I feel great for what I've been through, and lost 12 pounds pre op. I will keep up with updates in the Post Op Forum. Thank you for all the support and info. This Forum is great, and I hope to pay it forward. For those whose Journey is ahead, all Journey are different - stay positive. Re what to take to the Hospital, Im glad I took my robe (which I kept on during my stay) because the will be getting you up to walk, and with the IV, keeping it on worked best in the cold hospital. Chapstick was a great tip too.

    Aug 25 Post Op Update

Yes I hear you. I told myself I wouldn't get on the scale until my post op appt and I'm sticking to that. My belly is sore too but I slept on my left side last night! In bed! I have an abdominal drain which sucks. It should come out Thurs or Friday. I'm wearing stretchy boxers and they don't hurt. Or if I have to go out I will throw on a t-shirt dress. I can't wait to chew in a few weeks. Lol Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Help, Please.

Everyones Journey is different! Check out my posts pre and post op (just had surgery on Friday). They wanted me on low carb a month before surgery (my date came up really quickly) but I ate like it was my last supper LOL NOT unusual per my nurse. Then went on clear liquids and Protein shakes for a week before surgery and lost 13 lbs. You want to make sure you follow the liquid diet before surgery to shrink your liver. Last thing you want is for your surgeon to go in and not be able to do the surgery! I also posted exactly what I was drinking and when, and seriously, my energy was great. It is true that the "after life" is tough, and I personally know people who have failed, so I am doing exactly what my Dr says. I didnt go thru all this and spend this $$ to fail Stay positive Elise!

Going back to work Post Op

Just a post op update. My surgery was Friday Aug 25 and went great! My energy level is fine and if it weren't for my abdominal drain I think I could go back to work tomorrow (3 days post op)! I'm taking the entire week of tho because of the drain. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Aug 25 Post Op Update

I had the sleeve. Yes, my belly is sore and sounds kind of like a garbage truck but the gas pains are tolerable. Slept in a recliner last night because I am a side sleeper and my drain is on that side. Liquids are going down just fine now. I'm on clear liquids till Friday and then I can add yogurt and cream soup. My energy level is a little low but nothing I can't handle. I have a desk job and if I didn't have the drain I think I could go back to work tomorrow! Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Surgery yesterday!

Aug 25 surgery too: I'm home from the hospital and Surgery went great and I was up walking 2 laps of my floor last night. The nurse said she had never seen anyone do as well as me. 16. My surgery was yesterday, my surgeon told me time and time again the the pouch can stretch - no more carbonated drinks (I held a ceremony for my last diet coke LOL). After what I have gone through to get here, the money spent, AND seeing people who have failed, I am following what my doctor has ordered!! I'm not going back. Thankfully, his office has a weekly support group too.
  17. Tomorrow (Aug 25th) is the first day of my new healthy life!!!! I am soooooooo excited. I have an entire closet of "I'm going to fit into that again" waiting for me!!! I lost 11lbs on the pro op diet and I am in a great place emotionally - thinking positive is the only way. Thank you all for the great tips. Hearing the good and the bad is helpful.

    Question about protein shakes

I bet that would be good in greek yogurt too!

    Question about protein shakes

I can have decaf only. Something about caffeine and your blood vessels during surgery. Tomorrow is my day!!!!
  21. HDScarlett

    Tomorrow!!!!

Sending positive energy your way! I didn't sleep last night and I prob won't tonight either. The next few days will be interesting. Thankfully my Dr gave me all the meds to cover things that may happen (like GasX strips and anti nausea tabs). Do you have to give yourself the anti blood clot shots for 2 weeks? I do, and that is the only thing I am not looking forward to

    Question about protein shakes

Try the Premier Protein Caramel flavor. These are pre prepared shakes in serving size box things. YOu can get them at Walmart or almost any grocery store. I even use this as creamer in my coffee. I am not allowed milk. I am day 5 in my pre op diet and down 11 lbs. Here is my plan, obviously its working! coffee with a splash of Premier Protein banana or caramel , then the rest of the Premier Protein Shake for Breakfast, at 10am I have 2 C of chicken broth, at Noon I have 2 C chicken broth + another Premier Protein shake, at 2pm I have 1 sf Jello cup, at 6ish I have 2 C chicken broth (appetizer ) and another Carmel Premier Protein shake, 8pm snack another sf jello cup. I don't really like any other flavors of broth or I would have those. My shakes have to be under 200 calories, high protein (these are 30g) and as low sugar as you can find (1g). Premier is handy, pre made, and I like the flavors (Caramel, Banana, and strawberry Cream are my favorites). I SWEAR I have not had any headaches, and my energy level is really good (just fall asleep earlier which helps me not dwell on food).
  23. Have any of you had to give yourself the anti blood clot injections? Surgery is Friday and my Dr prescribed shots for 2 weeks. I watched a you tube video with good tips, but I'm still scared of giving myself these! Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. My daily (boring but working) pre op intake is: Coffee with a splash of Premier Protein Banana or caramel , then the rest of the Premier Protein shake for breakfast, at 10am I have 2 C of chicken broth, at Noon I have 2 C chicken broth + another Premier Protein shake, at 2pm I have 1 sf jello cup, at 6ish I have 2 C chicken broth (appetizer [emoji4] ) and another Carmel Premier Protein shake, 8pm snack another sf jello cup. I don't really like any other flavors of broth or I would have those. My shakes have to be under 200 calories, high protein (these are 30g) and as low sugar as you can find (1g). I SWEAR I have not had any headaches, and my energy level is really good (just fall asleep earlier which helps me not dwell on food). I lost 9 lbs in the first 3 days (prob water), and have not weighed myself this week. Dr wanted me down 10 before surgery (Friday) so I am really happy with my progress. Stay positive!!
