  1. I had revision to rny 4 years ago in May. I have horrible bouts of abdominal pain that has sent me to hospital several times... 2 CT scans, 2 egd and a colonoscopy later...no answers.. I don't see how it can be gas trapped but at this point I don't care what it is I am tired of these bouts that come on whenever out of the blue. It is debilitating. The pain is the worst! I need help.

  2. A year ago I started having awful pain in my stomach that went around to my back, for 6 months I suffered thinking it had to be gas. Nope. They did a a CT scan, upper gi, and a EGD this past Nov and said my intestines were inflamed but can't tell me what is happening or why. I want to know if anyone else is going through this

Just a quick update, my endoscopy showed that I had a significant amount of bile reflux. I haven’t had my follow up appointment with him yet to talk more about it, but it sounds like bile reflux can happen when you have bypass and also when you have your gallbladder removed, so that might be what’s going on. I also have a hernia that needs to be repaired. I’ll post an update once I gave my follow-up with the doctor in early November.

Bile reflux what is difference? It should still go down and not burn right? Did you ask about the limb being too short? Very interested to see if they are able to help.

I did a revision from VSG to RNY two years ago. I NEVER had GERD before.. but I have it now!!!! My throat feels swollen all the time. I have appt to get upper GI imaging, but I'm kind of freaking out in the meantime. I'm on pepcid and omeprazole and it's BARELY allowing me to eat/function normally.

I revised 2 years ago in May and still have GERD. I am still on my PPI Dexilant but I no longer have esophagitis D.

So I was sleeved almost 7 years ago. I've had horrible GERD pretty much ever since. There has also been some weight regain. If my insurance covers the revision surgery, will I have to do the months of supervised weight loss, or would I skip that since it's medically necessary? I'm looking to research all options....I hate having to take pills for the reflux. I know it's a question for my dr or insurance company, just wanted to see everyone else's experience. Scared to do another surgery!!

I didnt have to do anything. No 2 week diet before surgery either.

Thank you so much for this post. I'm planning on a sleeve to RNY revision right after the first of the year. I was wondering if I'd lose some of my regain (45 lbs), I have severe reflux and a hiatial hernia. If I can lose some weight on top of hopefully fixing the reflux and non-cardiac heart pain from the hernia, it will be a great 2022!! I am with you, dumping and not worrying about regain, at least not much, is worth the trade off!! Again, thank you. If you have any helpful hints about eating/getting through the first couple of months, I'd appreciate it. I cannot imagine eating baby food. What Protein did you find easy to get down the first two weeks? Again, thank you!

I was cleared after a week to go to soft including chicken. The only things I didnt get sick on were the Protein pretty much in the beginning. I just was careful on amounts and still am because I would get so ill. GL

Oh man, it’s such a lost feeling. Because if I am told not to eat something, I totally won’t. But I hate that not knowing! It makes me feel like I can’t be in control of this, besides just staying on a liquid diet!

Everyone is different. It has taken me a long time getting use to. I dont get sick all the time and usually its my own fault for eating too much or the wrong thing.

  8. 17 months post op. Yes I still get sick. I have figured out somethings that will get me but like you said one time for something is okay and then the next time its not oaky. I ended up losing down to 142 from 180 after revision. I pretty much sit at 148. I dont worry about regain anymore which is good. I dont mind the trade off really, it keeps me in check. It does get better the farther out you get just listen to your body. Over eating makes me sick too and in the beginning I could not feel a thing until it was too late and I was already sick. I really have to be careful.

Thank you so much for the advice. And I don’t actually throw up. It’s more like being so nauseous that I stand at the toilet dry heaving but nothing really coming out. Eventually my stomach will cramp up and it comes out the other end.
Wow I didn’t realize that we don’t throw up anymore ?! I guess I got so accustomed to just throwing up anytime something was too uncomfortable when I had my lap band prior to this.
What about if you’re sick with a stomach bug? Even then you don’t throw up? That’s so strange to me lol

YES !!! I dont throw up either and that seems to make it worse. I have laid in bed for up to 2 hrs and cried it hurts so bad, but that was more those first 6 months.

I am 2 weeks post op lapband to bypass conversion. I have experienced dumping about 5 times already and it’s just absolutely so horrible. I’m not drinking while I eat, I’m still on mushy foods. It’s happened to me from tuna fish, last night it was from half a Protein Shake. I thought it was supposed to be from having too much sugar or fatty foods. Has anyone experienced it this often even while eating what you’re supposed to be eating?
It’s so disheartening and is making me regret this surgery so bad. And yes, I know this is a question for my doctor who I will be in touch with. Just looking for any personal experiences and if it got better

I dump A LOT ! I have got it down to eating too much aside from when I eat something and my body says NO. You just never know what will trigger it sometimes and you will figure out the things that do for sure as you go along in the process. The first 3 or 4 months are the worst, at least it was for me. It was also harder because I could not feel anything for about 6 months during the healing process and I dont have the restriction I had with VSG. The dumping keeps me in check for sure. Good luck

    Hi everyone,

I'm from Birmingham UK. I haven't had any surgery yet, just thinking about it but I was wondering if anyone has a problem with excess skin after a huge weight loss? Is it very noticeable? Is it worse than being over weight?

Also, I'm 70 in April 2022, am I too old or vain for such a procedure?

Yes on the skin and no I dont feel like its worse then being overweight but it does suck after doing all the work.

You are never too old to feel better.

  12. Sorry you are having issues with dietician . Do you have to see one ? I never did after I had the surgery. I used the guidelines given and hung out in forums and did Youtube videos on what are you eating 3 months out ect ect. Those videos were very informative. If you have to keep seeing one get a different one. You really dont need the extra stress.

Yes, the group is called "LINX Surgery for GERD/Acid Reflux/Silent Reflux/LPR". I believe you should be able to find it in the search on Facebook and request to join it. I have seen several people in the group who talked about how they had a gastric bypass to try to fix their acid problems, STILL had problems even after that, so then they got the Linx.

    Thank you !

Ugh, I am sorry that you are still suffering with GERD after all that. Do you know if you might be a candidate for Linx? In one of the Linx groups on Facebook I saw that there were a few people who got Linx to control acid after a gastric bypass didn't work to stop it. The other thing I have read about is that sometimes people with the bypass end up with bile reflux from the intestines. The bile can cause a lot of throat irritation the same way that acid reflux can. I definitely think you deserve some additional testing to figure out why this is still happening after you have gone through so much.

Do you remember which group? It would be so nice if I could find someone with this problem. I havent been able to find anyone that is having the issues I have.

Oh no 😢. Does your doctor give you any hope on that it'll heal/correct itself in the future, Tracy?

I have not seen him since the surgery. He doesnt believe its possible is my understanding but they still have not done the bravo test to find out anything and I am guessing it is not important with this Covid outbreak. I think I may go see my regular Dr. and see if she will order it because this PPI is 1000 bucks every 3 months and I shouldnt have to be taking one !

Getting sleeve to bypass in August as well for Gerd/esophagitis. It's horrible to feel gnawing pains that feel like hunger but it's uncontrolled acid. Equally as bad that I can't lay down, even hours after a meal, because it rushes back up once I drift off the sleep and a burning throat even during the day. Look forward to have that fixed as all of you do. Scared this time around since I'm worried about abdominal adhesions from my previous surgeries.

    Cheers to all of you.

I had this same issue and was revised 15 months ago. My esophagitis is and A from a D now, but I STILL have GERD and am on the same PPI (dexilant 60mg) daily. I am an oddball as it seems.
