  1. I think it's push-back. YOU made this decision on your own--without him. He is NOT ready to change anything--diddly squat. And he's making it as uncomfortable as possible on you to drive his point home. In a sense, it is YOUR decision. But still...it's an asshat thing to do.
  2. Agreed! Great point. We can get to ketosis by either carb restriction or caloric restriction!!
  3. Yeah, great stuff! So it's different for some of us...I was in ketosis before surgery and am keto adapted (long term since basically 2000 with a little time off for surgeries and poor behaviors through that time). And you make a great point about the IV fluids having sugar in them. I don't know of too many surgeons who want to risk putting you under while in deep ketosis. Maybe bariatric surgeons are different? Dunno. But my PS who did all of my breast recon work could smell it on my breath and skin and would say, that he would just give me some "juice in my iv" to bring me back into glycolosis before putting me under. He did explain why and said there weren't enough hours in his world for that risk on a daily basis with all his patients. But I do know that I also routinely come out of the hospital 5-15lbs heavier than when I went in and part of it is optimized hydration from the ivs, extra surgical inflammation in the tissues themselves, any extra stuff they put in (like my implants which may be about 1lb each lol). Plus the crap food that seems to have sugar in everything!!! (Even though i never ate anything knowingly that had sugar -- ie reg jello, juice of any kind, reg Gatoraide, high carb protein drinks, mashed taters, VERY little mashed beans, etc.) So I think there may be more to the hospital part than ketosis/glycolosis and water weight. I also know I had the 3 week, 6week, 3 month, and 6 month stalls. GAH!!! So hard and frustrating. LOL. And I was deep into ketosis at those times from each stage. So I just think stalls happen. Weight loss is non-linear. LOL. It just isn't. I lose, get to a new low, then bounce up and around for a few days before resuming going back to a new low...
  4. @GreenTealael snorted my green tea! LOL. Good times!
  5. Thanks for those tips on Thai!! They sound great!!! And the carbs are not obnoxious!!! Congrats on being back to listed weight. Woooohooooooo!!!!! Go IF! Go @sillykitty!!! The street fair sounds fun. LOL on porta potties! I've no prediction of my day/night cuz of the baseball game. But on the up side, LOL, they do have beautifully clean potties!!!
  6. That's beautiful! Happy Sukkot then!!! Is that what you say? Are you doing anything fun with family or friends? Do you have a special Shabat for it?
  7. There's already a post about this somewhere on here...just FYI.
  8. Me2!!! I fast during Lent on Friday's and Ash Wednesday and during Holy Week as appropriate. I used to give up meat on Fridays. Maybe I will go back to doing that...hmmm. Funny--my mom used to refer to us Catholics as "Jews with the Messiah."

    Food Before and After Photos

Yum! y'alls food looks AhhhhhhhhMAYYYYzing!!!! Yummy!
  10. @sillykitty Dinner looked fabulous!!! I'd soon gobble that down! Was it sweet at all? I haven't had Thai in so long because of the sugar they add to all the sauces. I do miss it! @GreenTealael What is Sukkoth? I could google it, but would rather your abridged version. Mazels! No real IF yesterday from a food type, but I did end up going 14/10 between eating first and last meals yesterday, so defacto IF. Today is Game 5 of our playoffs. I'm thinking about fasting until the game if possible. Don't know if I will make it or if it would even be considered a true fast--or if I should say eff it. I'm fighting off a cold and I take what we call "eukaneuba" every 4 hours lol. It's actually Sambucus Elderberry Extract Ultra Concentrated - standardized to 5000mg per dose. It is a natural anti-bac/anti-viral and works great if your immune system is flagging as well. If you take it early enough, you can skip the infection entirely. If you don't get it early and develop full-blown symptoms, it will shorten the duration and severity of the infection. Works so great on cold and flus. But there is a little natural sugar/carb in it from the extract (it's extract, glycerine, water)...so I wonder if it shuts down the autophagy part of the fast or not?
  11. I had a hungry hungry heffer day yesterday. Gosh I felt like a bottomless pit!! I do feel pretty successful in navigating it though. Here's how I triumphed. I'm writing this down so that I remember it. (I did have a "slight" altercation with pita chips leftover from my birthday--but the up side is I managed to limit them to 9=1serving and combined them with a complex meal rather than just shoving them down my piehole slathered in butter or cheese--something guaranteed to make me hurl in 30 minutes or less.) 1. Managed to do an 18 hour fast yesterday. 2. Made great food choice for lunch. 3. Made an almost great food choice for dinner rather than eating a chili cheese coney with fries at the ballpark like I was craving--and which would have made me hurl in 30 minutes or less. 4. Limited my allotted popcorn at the park from 4 cups for the game to about 2 to maybe 2 1/2 cups (I guestimated on the high side at 3 cups). 5. No alcohol despite wanting a beer or a glass of wine. 6. Exceeded my fluid goals for the day mostly from water, green tea, black decaff coffee. 7. Exceeded my walking for the day with 12000+ steps + did upper body free hand weights and actually jogged for 2, 1 minute intervals. 8. Did not stop for fast food nonsense or a drink after the game like I was craving. 9. Did not eat a heavy meal cooked at home late night like I was craving. 10. Appeased myself with 2oz of PP in decaff as a "dessert/sleep aide" even though it was 11pm--that's better than a low carb breakfast taco with bacon egg and cheese!! Totals for the Day: 865 cals; 63g protein; 46g fat; 60g carbs; 11g fiber; 49g net carbs; 14g sugars Despite doing all those things I did wake up to a 2.2lb up-tick on the scale this morning. I'm sure it was cuz I had 60g of total carbs and about 49g net carbs for the day. My pattern is that I go down, hit a new low, then bounce around above that number before again stepping down to a new low. So it's a jagged, spiky stairstep in a downward progression. So I won't sweat it. I also know I have bad lymphedema in my left arm as of last night, and that may account for both pounds. So I will chill out about the scale and just live another dream day today. I'm only gonna do a 12/12 today and actually enjoy a brunch (homemade). I'll keep carbs lo-low and really munch the protein and see if that gets my hunger back in submission! Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!!! Hugs all around!!

    Going out to eat

Listen to @Diana_in_Philly!!! She's had such amazing success and is now an Olympic athlete!!! This to me is the greatest balance in life. Does that mean you eat out 3 times a week? Nope. Not at all. But do you avoid it and become a shut-in--only cooking at home? No forkin way! You had this surgery in order to reCLAIM your life, not limit it and lose it!!!! LOL. So we go out to dinner usually about 1 time a week. And when I do, I ALWAYS check the menu first, figure out what I'm going to eat, figure the macros and cals in MFP and plan that meal first. Then I plan the rest of my day around it. We do typically go to the same neighborhood restaurants because we like the food, know people there, and know what to expect. It makes my life easier and no brainer. If I don't order off the appetizer menu--love the shrimp pomodoro and either sauteed broccoli or spinach, I will order the "Add On" grilled chicken breast or grilled shrimp. It's about 3oz of protein for $2.50 or $4.50 respectively. Then Mr. F and I share a capreses salad of which I have 1 slice tomato/1 slice mozza/1 basil leaf/ 1/2tbsp capers / 1/2oz roasted red peppers / 1/2tsp balsamic reduction and I'll have a couple of bites of his sauteed veggies. That's dinner for me. And I still usually bring home leftovers. I will always eat from his salad plate and veggie side without ordering my own. And I will look for add-ons, or appetizer sizes, or childrens sizes of proteins. Like the kind where you can add "4 extra shrimp" to any entree for $4.99. Or "add a 3oz lobster tail to your steak" for $7.99. That way Mr. F. gets what he wants, I may have a bite of his protein too if my add on isn't enough...and split like I said. That cuts down on my leftovers tremendously, lets me enjoy a date with Mr. F. and allows me to be out in a public setting enjoying friends without stressing about food, leftovers, etc. If I order an entree it has to be pretty special. LOL> Cuz I will eat it for at least 3 meals. I generally don't want anything bad enough to splurge for 3 meals in a row. Something like that would usually be pretty decadent, high fat, high cal and it's not worth my time when it boils down to it.

    Is this too much?

I totes agree, and I could drink fluids pretty freely--they just wouldn't let me. I think I still had a 4oz per hour limit at 3 days, or maybe it was still 2oz per hour? Can't remember exactly. But I do remember I'd wake up at 4:30am and start my fluid intake for the day and drink until 10 or 11pm when I went to bed.

    I can’t consume one more...

I disagree about premier and coffee. It’s VERY unpalatable. Appreciate the suggestion though Then rant away. And good luck to you. But I do feel sorry for you. I'm just thankful I'm not a purist and that I do realize I must make compromises on purists tastes/epicurean leanings in order to be happy and make food changes--enjoying semblances of my old life without totally tanking it with high calorie/high fat/high carb nonsense.

    Is this too much?

Yes probably, but talk to your doctor or RD and ask. That's more important than my opinion--some schmoe on the internet.
  16. Dang!! So what do you think caused it? You think it was the 1-2-3 punch caused by the combo of the dried currants/raisins plus the blueberries and the peas, maybe even the cashews (which are carbier for nuts) maybe even combined with the carbs in plain yogurt? I'm so sad you experienced this and hope you will come check in to let us know you're ok now!!!! Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way girlie!!

    I can’t consume one more...

Hahaha you are the kinder gentler poster. Mine goes more like...yep. It's hard. Super hard. The debil hard. Now put on your big girl panties and the only way through it is through it. It's a right of passage. You will be through it sooner than you know. Options from @Orchids&Dragons are mix Fairlife milk FF with a spoon of yogurt, a scoop of unsweetened protein powder, some frozen fruit and maybe peanut butter powder and ice. Mix it up in the blender and if necessary strain it to get any fiber or seeds out. Enjoy. Same thing with soups. Make homemade soup, blend it, thin it down with homemade broth, strain if necessary. Enjoy. Also, mixing Premier Protein with coffee and ice or just black coffee makes it VERY palatable. I still love both hot and iced coffee!

    Going out to eat

That's great advice for new post-ops. But you can't give up your life cuz you had surgery. You do have to find some balance. And yes, eating in is wayyyy better IMHO than going out. But when you go out, you DO have to hopefully acquire new habits. It's a learning process that I'm still in, so I can't speak as an authority on this! LOL. I did take my measuring cups into restaurants, especially in the early days! And I'd immediatly ask for a box to go and put the remaining portion away. I would also transfer my portion to a bread plate so it looked like more and had the server to take my other plate away. I didn't care if I looked dumb, it was more important to eat and not stress. Now I use my palm as 3 ounces, my thumb as 1oz, my index and middle as 2 ounces, my fist as a cup. I'm sure I'm off, but if I overserve myself, my tummy does tell--even though I would probably be eating more than weighing and measuring here at home on my scale and in the cups.

    Breakfast ideas

LOL when we were kids we used to eat tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for breakfast sometimes! Or chicken noodle soup.
  20. Well I figured that was a time-saving economy step of cooking pasta in the soup. But yeah, no big surprise it would be overcooked. But I'm so weird, that even like Pasta Fagioli soup, I would cook the pasta separate and add it to each individual bowl--that's how much I hate overcooked pasta stuff. Or like chicken noodle soup? Yep. You guessed it. Me=weird.

    Breakfast ideas

Well, why not do leftovers for brekky? No need for breakfast food if you don't want it!
  22. Hey thanks! It's a dubious honor Texas leads...right? What does the column "Total Sites" refer to please?
  23. Just having my first meal after my protein coffee "dessert" at 8pm last night. We actually ate at 5:30pm. Red letter day. I was starving by 8pm--hence the 2oz of PP in my coffee. But I was still under on protein. I'm kinda leaning that Dr. Fung doesn't think hitting a protein level every day is gonna kill ya... Damn I love green soup with shrimp!!! And I forgot to add my snowpeas, but I had my limit of solids anyway. I may not even be able to finish them. Ummm it's just so satisfying for about 8 minutes of work--including passive cooking time. *snort* Ok, so can I just ask a question here? No offense to Instapot users the world over. I don't have one, have never used a pressure cooker, etc. But I don't get why you need to cook things in it that are not meant to be cooked in it? Like your pasta, or a cake, or something that takes almost as long by regular old school method? I totes get using it to quick cook things that are low and slow moist methods. But cake? Come on...just because you "can" do something, doesn't mean you should, right? I mean aren't we ALL trying to learn that lesson right now, post surgery?
  24. Gosh I think you are knockin' it out of the park girlie!!! You are doing things you've not done before right? Making great choices, not drinking, cooking for yourself, etc? Right? I'm so glad the scale is moving in the right direction!!! I really think this is working for us. And I love our merry little group of IFers and friends!! Yeehaw! WTG girl. Congrats!!
