I had the DS at Wake Med in Cary. I started out with a 42 bmi now 15 months later I am a 25. Diabetes gone, high blood pressure gone, and high cholesterol gone!!! I still dont recognize myself in the mirror! The only downfall is smelly poops and smelly gas but the Dr put me on Creon and it seems to be helping. As for telling people, everyone I've told has been supportive but I think it's a personal choice. Best decision I ever made!!! Oh and it took me 8 8 months from start to finish!Good luck on your journey!!!!

Did he give you a reason for only doing a partial DS? I wouldn't think he would do that and have you fail. Truthfully, I haven't heard of a partial though. Try to not panic and unfortunately you'll have to wait to see what happens. Sending you good vibes and best wishes...😊

angyplus5 got a reaction from Glamgirl in Internal Hernia 1 year after DS surgery
Hi and yes I did!! Dr Bruce is my doctor as well and fixed a hernia as well as a twisted colon and some adhesions in April. I had my DS February 2018. Since the April surgery and just had another surgery on June 10th to remove my right colon and a part of my small intestine. This surgery has been rough and I'm not bouncing back like I did before. As I'm writing this I'm at Wakemed Cary in a hospital bed getting fluids and Vitamins. I hope you feel better quickly!!!

I had my first drink (champagne on my 20th anniversary) about two years after surgery. I had my second (wine) about two months ago, almost four years out of surgery. I was never much of a drinker before surgery either, though. Having to wait a year is pretty standard advice from surgeons. Keep in mind you're likely to get drunk way faster than before- I could really feel it after one glass of wine/champagne and was pretty bombed after two.

My coworker invited me to go along to Jimmy Johns with her. I was hesitant because I LOVE Jimmy Johns and knew that the smell would make me really want a sandwich. Since I'm only 6 weeks post-op I am staying FAR away from breads and pastas.
I have never noticed their Unwiches before (why would I when I was enjoying their delicious bread? ) but they will make any of their subs into an Unwich, which is just a lettuce wrap. I had the Club Lulu, my favorite sandwich, as an Unwich today and it is amazingly good!!! 30g of Protein (if you can eat the whole thing which, of course, I couldn't....managed about 3 bites) but it will make for an excellent snack or next meal.
This may have been discussed already but I figured I would let you all know about it. I am so happy to be able to have Jimmy Johns! Delicious, and only 2 carbs.

I had surgery about 7 weeks ago and I am so glad I did. I am already down 35 pounds. I was nervous going into surgery but everything went smoothly. I was sore from being on the metal table and I had some soreness in my abdomen. I had the most pain a few hours after surgery before my nurse finally hooked up the liquid Tylenol and told me where my button for my pain drip was. I only stayed one night in the hospital then went home. I started the preop appointments back in oct and was finished with them in January and it took my insurance 3 weeks to approve it. I had it on March 29th but could have had it sooner but needed to save up the money for the deposit.

Your health comes first. Make an appointment even if you must take a day off work.

I'm reading everyone's food enjoyment, even the Jimmy John's unwich that sounds amazing, but I am the 1% who can't eat anything. I'm 5 months post-op and to date I'm down 97lbs. I don't exercise because I'm a full time working corporate mom who is also in college full time. I don't know if this is the right place to post, but I had a break down 2 nights ago. I've been faking that I'm happy to hubby, and became a girly girl with new clothes and makeup to try and make me happy. I only threw up once early post-op. I literally cannot eat any real food. My stomach doesn't tolerate anything. I have to eat mild and bland food if I want solids. liquid has become my life, and I swore I would never have to live off of Protein Shakes, but it's all I can tolerate. There's a handful of real food, but it has to be fresh. No sauce from a store bottle/restaurant like BBQ, spaghetti sauce, and anything Asian. I get really ill. I tolerate Hershey's chocolate tho, to a degree. But a *bite* of my kids pizza has me sick. And when I get really hungry it physically hurts in my stomach and back. I'm so miserable and regret the bypass. I can't see my bariatric doctor because they are only open when I work. If this is my life now...... I can't. I'm so tired of the "but Sis, it was worth it, right?" F that. I crave everything even more probably because I can't have it. I keep trying. It fails. Hubby is very frustrated and hates every night when discussing dinner plans I tell him to pretend I'm not here. He feels guilty, like he's not being considerate. Oh and alcohol... Any more than 6oz of wine causes me to black out and not remember anything just as if I was plastered.
It wasn't supposed to be this way.
I'm not sure of the purpose of this post. I just need someone to talk to that is relatable.

I was unbelievably sick months 3-5 and couldn't get in to see my doctor because I was on jury duty and couldn't leave court. I called them on my lunch break and they called me back after I got out of court. They were able to order some tests that I could have done on the weekend at the hospital. So, it is worth it to try to at least call your doctor. Mine was able to change my meds around and find some Vitamin deficiencies that helped some (those changes at least made me feel better enough that I didn't cry every day in pain). I eventually started to feel some better. But, really, if I could go back and not do this, I would.
