Ugh! Just had pre-op appointment with dietician and found out they have to re-submit to insurance because it's a new year. Should just be a formality, but still frustrating. Hopefully it goes quick. Surgery is scheduled on the 11th.

I don't know if it will ruin everything but I would certainly be concerned about developing a pattern that could hurt your odds of success.

First off, Happy New Year to everyone!
I have not started my pre-op diet yet but have my appoinent on the 2nd and expect to start my diet then. However, making just a couple of small changes, I have avoided the usual holiday gain and managed to lose about 6 lbs.
I've replaced my Breakfast with a green smoothie every day and then, either skip snacking or if I'm really hungry between meals, I've had a premiere Protein. That's really all the changes I've made.
Nervous, but looking forward to surgery on the 11th!

Curios why the OP has not responded to this thread. Trolling maybe?

If your doctor recommended due to your family history and current weight, then I would listen. Doctors usually recommend diet and exercise first and are reluctant to recommend WLS.

Omg guys I just set my surgery date for Jan 11th. I’m sooooo excited. Any post-op/pre-op advice or suggestions?!
I have the same date...starting to feel real now!

My wife was on board so it didn't take any convincing but here's one thing you might try. We were at the store buying a bag of paper cat litter (for our rabbits). Each bag weighs 25#'s. I had my wife pick one up and pointed out that I am carrying around more than 3 of those in extra weight. That was am eye opener even for me.

Sorry you are having to endure this. Is this your first WLS or was this a revision?

It's winter. Just way heavier clothes...and layers.

Just finished my upper endoscopy this morning. Found a small hernia but all is was good. Shouldn't be any delays to my surgery on Jan 11th! Excited and nervous. Fyi...if you are nervous, let the anesthesiologist know. They have me versed and that called me right down!

I figure it can't hurt to make sure your body's stores are all full so I started a month early.

I just tell people it is for health reasons... didn’t know I was so unhealthy till they started poking around... my snoring was sleep apnea, my blood sugars were rising and I have Barrett’s Esophagus from reflux I didn’t realize that I had. .... as I tick off the problems that a 65 lb loss has fixed, folks tend to understand a lot better, although they still say that I didn’t look heavy enough! At 46, I want to live my life healthy and happy!
At age 45 with a BMI of "just" 35, I had a heart attack. At age 46, I'm having VSG but I'll never be able to undo the damage that was done to my heart.

Sounds like you may need to step back and at least delay until you cam decide if this is really for you...maybe some additional counselling.

I haven't seen a GP in years. I created a spreadsheet going back 20 years of what I can remember with my weight history and what I tried for dieting, how much I remember losing/gaining back. It's all estimates but pretty darned close. What's the first appointment like? I'm going to the seminar thing in two weeks, and then I'll book my first appointment with the surgeon.
That's a great idea! At my first appointment, the dietitian had to help me compile my list. It was funny because just about every be and or type of diet she named, I have tried at some point.

I'm still pre-op but have been using the Tespo liquid Vitamin system for a month now and have been happy with it. I am taking the Men's Bariatric Complete. I'll be curious to see how my lab work comes back after surgery.

I'm planning on at least 3 weeks, but will take longer if needed. I'm mostly at a desk but my job has the potential to involve heavy lifting from time to time so I don't want to go back until I won't risk injuring myself.

I am pre-op but decided to buy a high end blender to have post surgery. With a Blendtec or Vitamix, you can make perfectly smooth vegetable drinks, nut butters and even hot Soup right in the blender. I've already been getting a lot of use out of it and expect to use it even more for pureed stage, etc.

I've been watching a LOT of YouTube videos from people who have had the VSG surgery as well as bariatric surgeons. It's cool to watch and see people's transformation over a period of months. Right now I'm especially interested in the videos from people who post their experiences during their surgery and first week post op, since I'll be having VSG on Jan. 11th.
Just curious, what are some of your favorite YouTube VSG channels?
I've learned a lot from a couple of the bariatric surgeons channels - one is Dr. Mathew Weiner and the other is Blossom Bariatrics from Las Vegas; their dietician has some really good videos.

Two things...
- A snow skiing trip. I've never been and have put off my wife's requests because I know it would be really hard on my knees at my current weight and I get winded too easily.
- A new family portrait.

Kind of pricey but we just got a Blentec blender and it makes perfect green smoothies and lots more!

My suspicion is that it has been the adequate levels of Protein that have been the biggest help. We WLS patients are basically engaging in medically supervised starvation for a period of time and Hair loss is a result. Getting adequate nutrition seems like the obvious solution.

What’s best... BariatricPal or Celebrate?

I've been using Tespo and my dietitian was very supportive of the concept. She's excited to see how my pre-op bloodwork comes back since I've already been taking them for a month. I've got the recurring subscription from bariatric pal...couldnt be easier.
