    @DownsizingDonnathank you. I have been going to my monthly support groups at my surgeon. Most of them are for those who had surgery and who haven't had surgery. They only have the ones for veterans (6 months out+) every other month at the location I go to. There are other locations but they are harder for me to get to.

    @kristin_pasley Thank you so much! I get/got those comments too. I still get the whole "you are tall and carry weight well" I am 5'10. Even though I'm 245 pounds I wear a size 14/16 bottom and 12 top. Also, even though I have lost almost 300 pounds some people in my family who have sharp tongues still say things like 1'you have such a pretty face, your body will catch up". It's frustrating. I don't know what my weight goal should be anymore. i'm glad I could inspire you. Good luck with your surgery! I can't wait to see your before and afters.

    @melissa39437Thank you! I'm trying to make myself believe that!

    @spowellAww thanks!!

    @sleevebabeAww! Thank you so much! Fear is a terrible thing! It is so hard to change the fat mentality. I am struggling with it a lot.

    @Brittany1225 Thank you! I can't wait to see your before and afters! I am glad I could inspire you.

    @HB76356 WOW! You have done amazing! Good luck on your journey with the sleeve! It's true that now I'm meeting people who didn't know me when I was 540 and they only know me now. Honestly I find it harder to deal with people who DID know me before I lost the weight because I feel they ALSO have the fat mentality with me. When I was 540 I couldn't do a lot of active or even hardly active activities. Now I can do SOOO much and my friends still treat me as if I am unable to do these things. They do all these active things that I would have WANTED to do and they don't invite me because they still have the mentality that I CAN'T! It's not helping much...

    @reallyrosy they mental process is definitely harder than the physical one.

    @WhtWdUGive620Aww thank you! Honestly, your message made me tear up. I'm so glad I could be an inspiration for you and my venting could help you! Good luck in getting back on track! We can do this!

    @GotProlactinoma Aww! Thanks! It really did. I needed to just get out my feelings and thoughts. I'm glad my venting was able to inspire others though.

    9 months ago when I took the picture on the left I was miserable, depressed and down right disgusted with myself. Yesterday July 23rd, 9 weeks post op I decided to take some new pictures. The one on the right is one of those pictures. I am so thankful I had such an amazing surgeon and team members. They made sure my surgery was done properly in order to make sure my success is achievable. Dr Maytorena, Long Term WLS, and my coordinator gave me so much more than I could ever have imagined. In 9 short weeks, yes you read that right, I am down over 50 pounds almost 70 pounds counting my preop! I feel better than I have in years! I have more self esteem, better sleep, I'm more active and I now love my life again! I wanted this more than anything in the world and my team made sure it was done the right way, to begin with in order for me to be successful. For that I am forever grateful! If you want to be successful as well I highly recommend these guys. I am not affiliated with them at all other than I had my sleev there. I am sharing my story in hopes that it inspires someone else. Well crap! Wish I'd known that before I lost my 135lbs using Protein Shakes with artificial sweeteners. SMH

    I guess I could stop drinking them now.

    Dr Matthew Weiner has a great video about this topic, and states that carbonation stretching the stomach (especially a sleeve) is a myth. My surgeon also concurs.
    The problem with soda are the CALORIES, NOT the carbonation. Empty, non nutritious calories are the fastest way to gain weight for a WLS patient because they go down so easily. It's silly to think the pressure from a few carbonation bubbles will "stretch" anything. Aside from the natural stretching that happens years out, it would take years of systematically over eating to the point of sickness to stretch a sleeve significantly because the fundus, or stretchy part, has been removed during surgery. Dr Weiner has no issues with carbonated waters or selzers as tolerated.
    At 3.5 years post op, I drink carbonation periodically and can eat just as much as any one else as far out as me. It has not stretched anything. It's really time to put that myth to rest.

    I lost 65 lbs since Surgery in MARCH 2017. I don't mind the attention sometimes. And sometimes it bothers me because I had Co workers tell me I am getting too skinny. Well what is too skinny? I've not even hit my goal weight.
    I was told some people are jealous. That is what I don't like.
    Don't be jealous ; just be happy for me.

    About year ago, I had my gastric sleeve surgery. Its been a crazy time learning exactly how my body interacts with different foods. The truth is, everyone is different, and you just have to learn for yourself what will work for you. Im not perfect. I eat pizza from time to time. Ive blown it out a weekend or 2, or 3. But then I review everything my doctor told me, and I bounce back. From the start I told my doctor that I never wanted to be fat again, I did not want to lose hair and I didn't want loose skin. Well, I did lose some hair, quite a bit at first. It hasn't come back, but is has stopped falling out... I think. I was advised that no matter what, if I lose weight fast, I will have loose skin. So Ive been determined to lose weight as slow as possible. I take in more calories and food than is probably recommended, but I also work out. I started out close to 300 pounds. Today I'm about 206. I lost a bulk in the first month, then about 50 plus pounds over the next 10 months. A part of me wanted to lose much more per month, but I also did not have any loose skin, which was a (superficial) goal. My goal is to get down to around 170-180. Ive been trying to amp it up a bit in the Gym to accomplish that. The most satisfying part of my weight loss journey has been all the energy I have to spend on my 2 young sons and my beautiful wife. I just turned 39, and I feel better than I ever have, ( with the exception of a little knee tendonitis) I sometimes forget my Vitamins, and occasionally fall back into bad eating habits, but instead of gaining 30 pounds like before, the scale my move just a few ticks up, enough to put me into panic mode and get on track. Im off all my meds, no more high blood pressure, no high cholesterol, no acid reflux ( just finsteride for hair loss). I look forward to the next year and continuing toward my goal. I wish everyone well, and hope all those who are just beginning the process great success!
