  1. I am surprised how different every protocol is. I had my sleeve on 6/22 a Thursday. My dr had me in protein shakes the day after surgery and yogurt and applesauce by Tuesday. My recovery has been seamless. He had me in ground meat and fish 2 weeks after surgery. I haven't had any nausea at all and very little pain. By far the easiest surgical recover I have ever had. I have had 4 c sections and a gall bladder removed and this was the easiest.

    Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve

I too started with a him of 40 and even when I checked in at the hospital on surgery day the intake person said I wasn't big enough for surgery. I think it's their way of a compliment (?) Bit it is the comorbidities that make the surgery essential to our success. I kept creeping up in weight and weighed more than I ever have. I struggled with my weight my whole life. I was tired of being the biggest person in the room and then the sleep apnea and diabetes made me qualify with a zero copay in my insurance! So far I am 2.5 weeks out from surgery and have lost 22 pounds. I am feeling better and my diabetes has been under control.

    Protein Help

My surgeon said for the first couple of weeks focus on fluid. I put unflavored protein powder in my water and it helps get to my protein goal. After you can eat more it's a little easier to get the protein but I am learning it has to be a conscious effort and adding protein powder to everything you can helps.

    1st restaurant experience post op

We are twinning. My surgery was also june 22 and yesterday we took in laws out for a belated Father's Day. They don't know I had vsg surgery, just that I had a haiatal hernia and my bike ducts fixed so I am on a soft diet. My surgeon released me for ground meat and fish already. I was torn about ordering shrimp or a potato. I decided on a baked potato and ate two tiny shrimp from my hubby- I didn't mention it was Red Lobster. Anyway, I just mentioned that I was on a soft diet and our waitress was very nice , no probing questions. It was yummy. I only ate my 2 ounces. Left feeling satisfied . I posted this on another site and got great concerns from other patients- I know a potato isn't a great choice, but life isn't over and it fit the texture restraints so I don't feel it was an awful choice. I agree I ordered a water too- didn't touch it- that really has been the hardest part of the diet but I understand why it is so important. I just hope I get used to it soon!
